Good luck to you Chanel! I found this forum and read for a few days before taking the plunge and ordering a 510. I've smoked for 25 years and have tried everything out there to quit. I really didn't plan on quitting, but just cutting back to save $ and to be able to get my fix when I couldn't light up. Well...it arrived last week and I haven't had a single analog since. I can't believe it! It was so easy and I haven't missed analogs at all.

I bought from Jack from happyvapar.com

I'm not really sure why I'm switching from cigarettes to e-cigs, surely not because of the health risk because I never believed the negative propaganda.

Personally I love the smell of cigarettes. I did ever since I was a kid. When my mom and dad lit up a smoke it was like perfume to me.

As for the non smokers ... I hope I never become as childish as they are. Waving smoke away when they pass a smoker; looking down on them; openly stating that they will die form smoking ... give me a break.
I worked for the cancer society and I worked for the center of addiction and you wouldn't believe the lies and the cover-ups.

I'm also sick and tired of seeing on dating websites the line "No smokers please". Well, I had a statement of my own and took great pleasure in it. I stated "No non-smokers please".

I'm giving the e-cigarette a try because I want to find out first hand what it's like, not because I think smoking is bad.
My goodness, my parents and grandparents were all smokers and they all lives very long lives and died in good health.

I'll keep you all posted though. Now that I started this I'll finish it. I might even start a blog about it.

My beloved grandmother (a smoker) died of lung cancer when I was a little girl, and it still didn't stop me from taking up the habit. For so many years, I have been a 'self-loathing smoker'. I love to 'smoke'. I love the action of smoking, the inhale and the exhale. The private moments and the ritual. Though I even somewhat enjoy the smell of 'fresh' smoke (love the smell of Kretek smoke), I hated the lingering stench and the chronic halitosis. I hated the constant reapplications of lotions from overwashing my hands to get the stink off, and lip balm to combat the dryness. I hated having to step outside in the cold and heat because I stopped smoking in my house for the sake of my pets, bonus that it prevented my belongings from being covered in smoke film (notice that I did not say 'nicotine film'). The desperate attempts to hide it from others because I didn't want 'the speech'.

I switched to smoking clove cigarettes (Kretek) a few years back, and I loved them... that is, until Big tobacco lobbied and succeeded in making them illegal in September of 2009. I was angry, and I didn't want to smoke 'regular' cigarettes again, but I couldn't stop. The patch, the gum, the lozenges- they didn't work because it wasn't 'smoking'.

Then a friend showed me his e-cig. I'm a techie and hacker-type, and I was intrigued with this new gadget. How did it work? I was amazed. Much research ensued.

So I ordered one because I had to try it. I got it early last week, and with the help of the forums, I'm making it through the learning curve. Already, the difference is amazing! I still get the ritual, I still get to 'smoke'- I get the clouds and the throat hit- but it doesn't leave a stench. Instead of tasting like burning, it tastes like flavor- vanilla, banana, chocolate and coconut (I didn't much opt for the tobacco flavors, except a Kretek flavor). Trust me, I'm getting nicotine, and I've even overdone it a couple of times. Even so, I'm already feeling better, and more 'clean'. When I got to work Friday, I was dumbfounded when I noticed that my hands didn't stink, and I could smell the light detergent scent of my clean clothes.

I can't wait to see how much better it gets from here!

Good luck in your venture, Chanel!

In my opinion, another reason the powers that be want to ban e-cigs, is because they think that they are attractive to kids, I have a feeling that before we know it it will be illegal to have an LED light on an e-cig. And you can forget about fun flavors like cotton candy ect...This is in addition to what the previous post says about the loss in revenue through sin taxes...I imagine they will find a way to tax it soon...this comes from nothing that I have read or anything just an opinion. I can see it all coming to a head very soon.

Yhep. That was their reasoning for taking away my beloved Kretek.

Just one quick question ... how do you get that "I have been Vaping for ..." siggie under your name?

Welcome to the forum Chanel. The way to get the signature is to find one you like under someones post and click on it. After that, you may have to enter some data, then click okay when you are done and a preview shows up. Then (in my case) I copied and saved the 'code' to a text document on my desktop. I then entered it (copied and pasted) it in the signature section of my user control panel in the appropriate place.

I can't speak to the health issues. I would imagine they can't be any worse than real cigarettes. I can also imagine that many of the efforts to ban e-cigs are the result of lobbying by special interest groups rather than good science.

What I can guarantee is that the nicotine definitely hits. While this isn't a health benefit, I also prefer not smelling like cigarette smoke. My lady friend appreciates kissing me a lot more too :D

Re:
So I've been thinking of ordering a sample pack, if I can find one.
I don't want to plunge right in and order something with a charger and batteries because if I don't like it, then what?

Then what ??

If you are not prepared to help yourself, then who is ? You may be able to use the charger to charge batteries ! :-x

This planet!!

You may find, like I did, some questionable discomfort in your lungs for a period of time.
This led me to think for a while that there was still a residual buildup from vaping that my body was having a hard time with. After three months I feel just fine. Don't mistake the symptoms of your lungs healing from your past smoking damage as a new symptom caused by vaping. Rarely there are allergic reactions but unless it is a severe reaction just keep on vaping.

I smoked for more than 40 years and was at three packs a day when I found vaping. My wife and I stopped cigarettes the very same day the first e-cig kits arrived. Haven't wanted a cig since that first day; no side effects; no worries; better breathing and sleeping; no cig stink; on and on.
In regard to savings, oh yeh. Check my signature box.
Welcome Chanel. Your life is about to change for the better.

First of all electronic cigarettes DO contain nicotene, although you can get zero nicotene. Why would cigarette smokers even bother trying them if they didn't? Afterall it is the nicotene that releases the pleasurable and calming endorphins in the body that makes smoking addictive, and NOT all of the "pretty poisons" that the tobacco industry adds!

E-cigs are infinitely (tobacco companies are continually adding more and more chemicals that are toxic and carcinogenic) safer than analog cigarettes! You can choose the amount of nicotene that you are used to or want to try. There are also many flavorings that you can add for an even more satisfying smoking experience.

E-cigs are also a great tool for those wanting to quit smoking altogether. They allow you to step down on nicotene levels and at the timing that is the most comfortable for you! Adding flavors can also be very helpful in the process.

Well heres a good start. http://www.usnews.com/health/managing-your-healthcare/articles/2008/09/21/health-highlights-sept-21--2008.html?PageNr=2PAGE 2 @ VERY BOTTOM!

Electronic Cigarettes Ineffective, Possibly Dangerous: WHO

So-called "electronic cigarettes" aren't an effective nicotine-replacement therapy and may be highly poisonous, warns the World Health Organization.

These devices are usually made of stainless steel and have a chamber for storing liquid nicotine in various concentrations. The devices produce a fine, heated mist that's absorbed into the lungs, United Press International reported.

"It's 100 percent false to affirm this is a therapy for smokers to quit," WHO anti-tobacco official Douglas Bettcher said. "There are a number of chemical additives in the product that could be very toxic."

The WHO is especially concerned because some manufacturers of electronic cigarettes use the WHO's name or logo on advertisements, package inserts and other promotional methods.

First developed in China in 2004, electronic cigarettes are now sold in several countries, including Brazil, Britain, Canada, Finland and Turkey, UPI reported.

I got it from a cat forum truckinlady. I love it too, that's why I 'borrowed' it.

So this is my second day of vaping and I've already cut down considerably on smoking.
I have the USB passthough, but I've decided to go for the real thing. I don't like it that I can only smoke on the computer. I want to be able to take the e.cig with me wherever I go.

The flavor I chose is 'Tobacco' but I want to change this to the Malboro red flavor.
I'm trying it without nicotine yet, but I may want to add some if Malboro red on its own is not enough.

How is this a good start? It's totally negative. The message states that vaping could be very toxic.

From the top of the report's page:

Health Highlights: Sept. 21, 2008

Considering the short amount of time ecigs have been available worldwide, that "report" was written before lab tests (i.e. FDA) were actually being conducted.

Fears & misconceptions of the unknown tend to help promote "sensationalism reporting".
