    Somewhere between here and there
Hello again folks. I’m happy to be back with you today to attempt to provide you with a fair and honest review on the Dovpo Tribute 100W mod that was sent to me by Dovpo. The Tribute can use a single 21700 or 18650 with the included adapter. As you can tell from the name the Tribute has a maximum output of 100 watts but also has a 3A fast charging circuit. It has a .96”TFT display and has a full spectrum of features including Power, Voltage, Temp Ni, Temp Ti, and Temp SS. Besides all of this which I guess these days is kind of standard on a lot of mods, it also is really sharp looking and gives off a feel a high end quality mod and is made of zinc alloy and ABS. Sounds pretty good right? Let’s take a look at some promotional information and I’ll give my thoughts on it.

    INITIAL THOUGHTS:

The packaging on the Tribute is a little different from what I’ve seen from Dovpo in the past but really like it. They usually do a nice job on presentation. The box isn’t over done on branding like some other companies do. The front has the Dovpo and Tribute names done tastefully with the Dovpo website listed near the bottom. The side of the box give a list of a few features for the Tribute and the back side has the contents list, a warning and company information for Dovpo. The box isn’t the usual two part box with a top that lifts off but instead slides out from the side with the user manual on top and the mod and USB-C cable underneath. As you can see from the last picture below, I received the Silver/Grey version for my review.

The 510 connection plate is positioned to the front of the mod that is nearest the fire button. The plate is held in by two torx head screws and it appears that there is some sort of seal around the outside edge of the 510 center pin which is plated and spring loaded. The Tribute can handle up to about a 25mm tank without any overhang.

The bottom of the mod has the Dovpo insignia and name printed on it along with the CE certification. This is the only branding on the mod besides the Dovpo name being on the display in a very small font that I will show you later.

The battery compartment for the Tribute is a C Frame style that loads from the back side. I personally like this style of battery loading design very much. In the picture below you can see the 18650 battery adapter with the Dovpo name printed on it that is found inside the battery compartment when you open the cover for the first time. I always use a 21700 battery when the option is available. The battery polarity is clearly marked inside the tray and the contacts are plated. The top contact is spring loaded and it’s a little bit tight since the mod isn’t a lot taller than the battery. The battery cover has two magnets, one on top and one on bottom. They hold the door on very securely and there is absolutely no movement in the battery cover on the sample I received. It is very precisely built with no wiggle. I think it would have been nice if there was a battery strap installed on the Tribute to make battery removal a little easier. It’s a pretty tight fit and can be a little tough to get the battery out without damaging the wrapper.

As I mentioned earlier, there is no branding on either side of the Tribute. There are three vertical grooves cut into the sides of the battery cover that meet up with the body of the mod which is made of zinc alloy that gives it a nice weight to it. Without a battery I measured the weight at 161.48 grams and with a 21700 battery installed it weighed in at 227.76 grams.

The face of the Tribute has a round fire button that is just barely raised from being flush with the face which makes it less likely to be accidentally fired when carried. Below that is the .96” TFT display screen followed by the + and – buttons installed side by side and the USB-C charging port near the bottom. The display screen shows the following information.

    • Dovpo name and battery level indicator
    • Set wattage
    • Output voltage while firing and coil resistance
    • Lock/Unlock symbol
    • Length of time of current puff
    • Puff counter
The Tribute does offer some other modes of operation as well as features included in the menu system. The button operation is as follows.

    • Press the fire button 5X to turn the mod on/off
    • Press the fire button 3X to enter the menu system where the following settings are available
    • Power
    • Voltage
    • Temp Ni
    • Temp Ti
    • Temp SS
    • Bright
    • Stats
    • Colour
    • Exit
    • Press the + and – buttons to lock the adjustment buttons
    • Press the fire button and – button to lock/unlock the fire button
The Stats option in the menu system is where you reset the puff counter. The Colour option is obviously where you can change the display color but unfortunately it is limited to either green or red.

The specifications on the Tribute are a little vague in my opinion and many might wonder if it does or doesn’t contain a boost circuit. I switched the mode to Voltage and was able to run the voltage up to 8.5 volts despite the specifications listing the operating voltage as 3.2-4.2v. So it does in fact contain a boost circuit although I don’t know why it wasn’t listed in the specifications.

Like most quality mods these days, the Tribute does have built in safety protections. They are as follows.

    • Reverse polarity protection
    • No load protection
    • Short circuit protection
    • Over-time protection(10s)
    • High temperature protection
    • Low voltage protection

    FINAL THOUGHTS:

When I think of Dovpo mods, I think of quality made devices. I have reviewed and purchased many Dovpo mods over time and every one of them has had a good build quality. The Tribute is no exception. I don’t really know for sure how many C frame mods I have in my stash but the Tribute probably has the best fit on the battery cover that I can remember. There’s no movement and it is almost a seamless fit with the body. To me the Tribute seems pretty small for a 21700 mod. It is very comfortable to hold whether I fire it with my thumb or index finger. The firing reaction speed seems ok to me. I didn’t really notice a lag or anything from when I pressed the fire button until the coil activated.

For my testing it seemed only fitting to get out my Blotto single coil rta. It was a very good match as far as size and didn’t overhang. I ran a .35 ohm Ni80 Clapton coil in the rta and felt like the firing time was fairly responsive at 45 watts. I started out around 32 watts to break in the coil but it definitely needed more power to heat it properly. I could have easily pushed the wattage higher on this coil and the Tribute could handle it just fine but if I chain vaped at all then the vapor got a little too warm for me.

    1687101139706.png

The Tribute does in fact have a boost circuit that will run up to 8.5 volts. I tested it in voltage mode and also ran the coil in the Blotto higher than I would normally in wattage mode to make sure it was boosting there. This tank doesn’t have huge airflow but did run it high enough to get over 4.5 volts so I am confident that the boost is working.

I only have one complaint on the Tribute and that is because of my age and visual acuity. The wattage setting is plenty big but I honestly cannot read the rest of the numbers on the display without my reading glasses. To me there is a lot of dead space on the top and bottom of the display window that could have been used to enlarge the display and increase the font size. It’s not that important to see the other numbers but would be nice to read the puff counter without assistance.

Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed testing the Dovpo Tribute. I would definitely recommend this one if you are looking for a solid 21700 mod that has a nice weight to it without being very large. I found the Tribute to be very comfortable to hold and fire whether thumb or finger firing and the fire button makes a nice click sound when pressed.

I’d like to thank Dovpo and Joan for sending the Dovpo Tribute Mod for this review. As always, thanks to the readers for taking the time to read my reviews. Below is a link to the Dovpo website for your viewing pleasure. Feel free to look around at everything they have to offer.

Thanks for the Excellent review Hitt!!!

I really like the simplicity, clean lines, and monochromatic design of the Tribute. It is a minimalist design, 100%. Those kinds of products rate very highly for me, they get my immediate attention.

IMO, Dovpo clearly sits in the Top Spot of all the Chinese designers and mod makers. I own several Dovpo mods, each is very solidly built. None has ever had any problems or issues.

I love how Dovpo keeps branding to the absolute minimum. Nothing irritates me more than mods that basically serve as advertising billboards.

Would have liked to known how their TC on this mod fares. I know you don't run TC, so no biggie. But... if you ever get there (LOL), inquiring minds and all that jazz.

I've put the Tribute on my list of future purchases.

    Thanks again!!!

Great read, thanks Hitt. Do wish companies would still offer a simple single color screen options as well as what is shown on screen options but I'll definitely grab a couple of these.
Thanks! I wish you could change the font size.

Thank you. It’s quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

Thanks a bunch for the review.

Any idea if you can use this device while it's plugged in and charging?

Thinking about getting this to replace my Target 100 - the Target 100 is almost 70g lighter with a battery installed but the battery door is giving me nightmares, and this device seems to have a great battery door.

Purchased earlier today and just now read your review, nice. Looks like I made a good purchase, looking forward to switching over to 217 mods from built-in battery mods. Thanks for the review...
I’m running the one I got for review and another one I purchased. I have almost all 21700 mods in rotation now.

Nice review Hitt! I have one on the slow row over from Sourcemore. I have a feeling I'm going to like it, so will probably purchase a second in the near future.
I like it quite a bit and bought a second one right away. Both are still in rotation.
