Interesting. I can see the advantage of all that wick in a classic dripper. Give it a try, let know what you think.

In general with a bottom Feed RBA less wick is what we want. With all that wick in there you'll have a problem of the liquid not draining fully. Also with lots of wick you run into the coil cooking the juice, then when you squonk the fresh juice blends with cooked juice and some of that blended juice gets sucked back into the bottle. Over time you see that a clear liquid in the bottle starting to darken and it can get quite dark. This leads to flavor shift in the juice.

Ill try it on my next build, im really happy with the flavor drom my rm6 now ive been playing with wicking and im actually happy enough to not pop my rm2 on just for the flavor now. Took me a bit but i think i got cloud and flavor nailed on this now :) :) waa just curious if there were any adventure seekers out there that have successfully done dragon coils! I suppose it would end up tainting the juice in the bottle tho...

Fuzzy u got pics of ur coil setups?

Nope, just tensioned coils built with the coil gizmo or standard coils built on a 1.5 mm screwdriver. Learned to build from youtube videos. Nothing fancy since I am an old derelict that is vision and dexterity impaired.

Spot on about way too much cotton wick that is not needed with a squonker and more likely detrimental to them. Tainted juice usually ruins the flavor. Worth a try maybe if you use way less cotton, wet it and form it up off the deck in a way that it will stay up there.

Use to be a wild coil buildaholic too, but overall the gains not worth the effort on many of the radical builds. Reos make so many RDA's gone bf so easy to get the FVT with simple builds I'd rather be vaping them than spending the time building wild coils for them.

I've tried this build on AGA-T2 and RSST tanks. There was no name for it then. I called it the Pancake coil because all you're doing is stacking lots of cotton around, and on top of the coil. It worked on those devices -- IF you kept the cotton drowned with juice. But once it dried out a little, you got lots of dry hits due to nothing being Inside the coil. This led to scorching the cotton touching the coil. And since you're not inserting it INSIDE the coils, it's hard to do dry burns because you literally have to remove the layers of cotton away from the coil to proceed.

As Filthy Beast said, this technique might work in some devices - as long as you keep the cotton very saturated with juice. But I don't think it will work with a Reo Grand due to it being a bottom feeder. It defeats the purpose. You'll end up with so much juice on the deck that it won't drain properly, and when OR IF it does... you'll have old, burned juice mixing with fresh juice. All you'll get is a wet sock flavor and taste.

It's much better to have wicking material actually going through the coil and touching the sides of the coil. Be it SS Mesh, Cotton, Hemp, RxW and etc. When the wick doesn't fill the coil, you get Hot Spots - which is very similar to Hot Legs. The area is SO HOT that it burns the juice as soon as it hits it. Talking about nasty!! When Mrs. Hot Spot meets Mrs. Hot Legs... it's not a pretty sight. ;)

After reading this thread I built the coils today on a non-bf IGO-W that as laying around. I can see the appeal to vapor junkies but I would have to do a lot of searching to find any hint of flavor out of it.

It dang sure moves some vapor and because it is a .7/.8 ohm coil you can take massive long lung hits without it getting way too hot. The cotton around the coil is already starting to turn dark where it is cooking the juice. As stated above I would not use in a BF due to the amount of cotton needed. But if your bored and waiting on nuppin it gives you something to do with high VG juice it will fill a room in short order.

You've convinced me to give a shot later this weekend in the one non BF mod I still have.
