Drill bit safety?

Okay...weird question: is it safe to wrap coils using a drill bit? I know a lot of bits are coated in black oxide; do any of you rinse bits prior to wrapping?

Thats how this all started.. We learned most of our builds from the drill bit method

When you dry burn your coils theres nothin left there anyhow..

As Royaldrunker stated: do a couple of dry burns on the new coil and it will rid itself of any extraneous oils, etc.

I wondered that myself when I first bought a couple drill bits. I just washed them with soap and water for a couple minutes and I don't worry about it. As has been stated, dry burning the coil before use a couple times should take care of anything that might have gotten on the wire before and while wrapping.

Thanks guys, you rock. I figured a few dry burns would do the trick, which I always do anyway to check for hot spots. I used to use bamboo skewers, but honestly 5/64" bits work perfectly. Thanks again!
