I bought one of these.

Stainless Steel Drip Shield

I use a lot of cisco 306s from Avid. I thought this is what I had been looking for.

I also bought a 510/510 sealed adapter because after some reading i thought i needed it.

so the drip shield fits just fine over my 306 and adapter, but none of my 510 drip tips fit in the top hole

am i just misunderstanding the concept?

First, I dont use drip shields. I find that they change the draw too much for me. Im not that messy of a dripper so its not a biggie.

Second, a 306 atty will not fit a 510 drip tip. Most 306s come with their own drip tip.

right, i've got a 306 drip tip...i get that

but a drip shield goes OVER the 306 atty and theres then a gap at the top

this being a 510 drip shield it makes no sense to me why it wouldnt take a 510 drip tip

I understand what you are trying to accomplish I think. The issue is a drip shield fits over a carto or a 510/901 atty but the drip tip still goes into the carto/atty. A 510 drip tip is not going to fit tight inside just the drip shield.

I use a 306 quite a bit, cannon drip tip and just learned how much to drip without flooding.

The 510 drip tip fits into the 510 atty not the entire drip shield. So just pop in the 306 drip tip and have at it. It definitely stiffens the draw on the atty though, like sucking ice through a straw.

ok this makes sense...and the 306 drip tip will fit inside there..but then what is the point of the drip shield?

The drip shield is supposed to stop the leaking of juice onto the mod from the atty and to look nice

That's it. It just traps any leaking. You still have to pull it off every so often and clean it out.
