Well, I got my Igo-L up and running. When it arrived, I only had the parts kit that came with it, and the coil I built popped within hours.... So sad.
My order of Kanthal came today, so I gave it a second go. I am still feeling this out, so I kept things easy and high resistance. I built a 11 wrap microcoil with 32ga A1 Kanthal using a 00 sized electronics screwdriver as a mold, which worked great, it provides a solid handle for working on it.
Pinched it, torched it.. left tails just long enough to get a full turn on the posts without too much waste.
Popped it on my MVP and it read 2.4 Ohms. A little higher than I wanted to be, but that's okay for my first attempt. Once I was satisfied with the positioning, I fired it, and after a few pulses, watched the glow start in the middle and work its way to the ends, without hotspots anywhere. I bored the airflow vent on the Igo to 1/16th (just a tad larger than stock) and put in a nice boiled cotton wick.
I then moved the whole thing over to my K101, put a fresh 18350 Efest IMR battery in, dripped some MBV Toasted Marshmallow, and WOAH! I got it just right... thick plumes, but not cloud chaser volume, amazing flavor and a smile on my face; what a satisfying experience.
I then started a spreadsheet where I can log each coil I make, so as I learn, I will have a record of what worked and want didn't.
Thank you all for the support, answers, reviews, tutorials and hints on discounts... it all came together to a perfect moment where understanding met patience.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have a Genesis to recoil, since my first coil there popped within the first hour as well. I want to chalk both of those up to inferior wire (and me leaving the tails a little long)
