i dont understand how dripping can be less hassle than cartos or cartridges? dont you have to put couple drops in every half a minute just to make it vape? with a good size cart, you can vape for quite some time before you have to refill it.

Two drops do last about 6 puffs for me which is more than 30 seconds, more like a few minutes. I dislike the way carts taste, so it is worth it anyway. I suppose it depends on what your needs are with vaping, but I don't see dripping as a hassle at all. It rarely leaks, and I lay it horizontally when I am not vaping. Sometimes I blow across the tip like one does with a soda bottle to make a sound, so the juice doesn't get in my mouth if it bubbles. I am considering getting a juice box for at home and would definitely get one if I drove a lot.

I am using a manual battery. No drip tip (using empty cart). I have to keep paper towel close by, as well. Maybe leaking is just part of dripping? Seems messier than just topping off a filled cart.
This is because you are not direct-dripping the way you should… Minor leakage may occur but from the circumstances you describe you are most likely over-dripping!
I've only been vaping for a day and a half, but I started dripping tonight after reading a post on dripping. My problem is, my 510 leaks now. I know I didn't drip any on the outside and made sure when I put the empty cart back on, there was no spillage or leaking. It seems to leak after I push the button to heat it up to take a drag. What am I doing wrong?
When dripping you may come across many issues… But they are to be part of the ‘learning curve’, as part of a process which may be tricky and uneasy at first but will soon turn into a later instance where the art of dripping shall become ‘second nature’, so to speak… Anyhow, the most likely difficulties which may occur are:
1. Flooding: This is when your coil is literally ‘full’ of liquid; there is more e-juice than it can process, so this results in an under-performing vape. The typical symptoms are too much TH in a ‘harsh’ type of way, and not a lot of vapour. Remember, though, that a ‘wet vape’ may be natural and appreciated by many… This is not a flooded one exactly, but rather a “smoother” one…
2. Leaking: This is a step further… It happens when your ceramic cup is full of liquid and it drains down the threaded end of your atty. This may also happen as a result of an atty which is ‘inconsistent’ and has the coil displaced from the centre air-intake; or out of a damaged atty (higly likely when you remove wicks/ bridge as a beginner…). But if it happens as a result to an over-flooded atty it may lead to:
3. Clogging: This happens when the air-conducts are obstructed by liquid/ residue;
4. Saturation: This happens when your atty’s wicking-fibers and/ or mesh have been over-exposed to high amounts of liquid for a long period of time and the right vaping “protocol” as in respecting the cooling cycles has not been followed. As a consequence your wick and mesh wont be able to absorve/ dispense any more liquid… The newbie is likely to process this as a thirsty atty and flood it all the way… This is highly likely with most brands of 510, and very common after the preliminary puffs right after priming… It is experienced as in:
“My atty seems ‘thirsty’, ok… Ill drip more… Thirsty again! Wow… Oh! Now its flooded/ leaking; How come…?”
Those ‘problems’ are part of the learning process but as to avoid them you could consider a few tips:
1. Try to drip about just the right amount, which will be different depending on the different circumstances; liquid consistency; wattage; vaping manners; etc. And bear in mind that after the first sessions your atty’s capacity to hold/ dispense liquid is likely to be reduced… Just try to focus on your atty’s ‘feel’ rather than in ‘figures-formulas’. Dripping too much or too less may make your atty leak… Remember that when you drag some of the liquid from the wick may be forced to drain down… This may also eventually end up in saturation.
2. Try to give your atty a few secs to cool off between puffs… This goes a long way! ‘Rushing’ your vape will definitely end up in a saturated atty; and if you want to ‘vape hard’, eventually: DRIP LESS…!Remember that if you ‘rush’ this when you think your atty is dry there will be still some liquid making its way onto the coil from the wicking, and this together with the newer drips will accumulate eventually and result in flooding and may also clogg an atty. So: keep a nice vaping rhythm! (Also don’t leave your atty ‘unattended’; meaning: when you drip: Finish your vape session!)
Well for me i prefer the tanks than DD. I keep getting the liquid in my mouth when i'm DD. Well maybe i'm a noob but the tanks works great for me. considering on buying the LR tank atty after this..
Give your drip tip or atty (if ‘tail-piping’) or ad hoc tip (modded form cart) or whatever, a gentle blow to avoid ‘bubbles’. Also: if you end up qith liquid in your mouth you may very well be over-dripping.
It's not uncommon for there to be some leakage when dripping (at least for me). That is why it is highly recommended to only drip using a manual battery. Auto bats have a hole in them so leakage can damage them.

I am a noob too. I keep a roll of paper towels on my desk and wipe my PV all the time while I am dripping and vaping.

I'm kind of paranoid to dry run my atty so I side towards over dripping I guess. One noob mistake I had done many times was pressing down on the drip tip with my finger covering up the opening on top. This will push the liquid right out of your atty. Simple physics.

I saw somewhere here to use 3 drops then vape til the flavor goes off a bit (slightly burnt taste) then drip again. I use a 50/50 PG/VG or straight VG base and seems like 2 drops has been better with my experience. Less mess/waste.

Only minor leakage is to occur; if any. Other than that you may be over-dripping…
I think leaking is part of the process. Atty's have air holes/venting that tend to leak, some worse than others.
This is to be compensated by a good dripping technique or modding your atties. Then again, you may be right… Manufacturing inconsitency in atties translate into leaking atties, and this is a fact! The cone of the eGo or modding could compensate for this.
I felt the same way till I had one of those aha moments. I bought a drip tip to try because they are cheap. I used it once and thought, "What's the big deal?" Well I finally figured it out. The thing is that cartidges have a lot of inconsistencies. When they start getting dry, they are not as good. When you just fill them they are too wet. You hit them too much and they dry out around the atty and you have to wait for them to rewick. One night I was watching TV and my cartridge was running dry. So, I had the choice. Take a dry hit or fill it and take a wet hit. Then I dug out the drip tip and I really liked the consistency. It's not for on the go and you don't have to add juice all that often but, sitting around, it's great.
You hit the spot! This is why carts may be a pain to many of us here. Nevertheless, the very main argument you have is also valid for the reasons behind difficulties beginners may encounter when vaping… Getting the hang of it, though, could be possible (unlike carts…Of course some mods DO work…) but at first it may be tricky and frustrating… So the newbie should try to be patient and be content with an ‘average’ vape and not be on the constant search for that perfect puff because this could be counter-productive.
And REMEMBER: Direct-dripping (DD) or ‘dry-smoking’ is not to be done with automatic batts, for leaking will destroy them…!

Dripping Virgin...!
Cool…
I just had this idea, as in a fantasy, of a cool hottie who said to me: Could you teach me how to drip? Because I have never ever done this before… Don’t know how to… Holding her PV as…………Oooops!
Imagine the rest!

Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaaaaaah!

 Noob here, been vaping for over 2 weeks now on my eGo-T. I thought that I already had THE device to satisfy my needs until this morning when I was getting nothing but dry, flavor-less vapes. That's when I decided to give dripping a try. So I found a local shop and decided to go with a 901 LR atty. Put a few drops of juice (Gorilla juice from AVE) and took my first hit.... All I could say is DANG! Tons of warm vapor, killer TH, and best of all - FLAVOR. I was totally missing out on this dripping thing. If you're a noob and haven't tried dripping yet I suggest you give it a shot!

P.S. Mucho thanks to James @ Vaporescence for throwing in that 510/901 adaptor and drip tip for free. Will definitely be back to try out some juice.

I have to agree with you, dripping is the way to go! Tons of flavor and throat hit. I recommend using a drip tip as this is alot more convenient and less messy.

Carts are a joke and should be banned. If I had a shop selling Ecigs they would all come with drip tips.:vapor:

Carts need topped off as much or more than a dripper drips. Therefore carts are the most ......ed thing ever invented.

I propose a sticky in the newbs section that states this as a fact. All it has to say is Carts are ......ed.

well that's nice to hear, but i do want to say that everytime i've been over there they have been rude, slow, and once even chastised me for asking if they carried a 510 battery w a red or orange LED, saying i was putting a bad name on vaping for it wanting to look like a cigarette. sour apples if you ask me. also didnt (at the time) have VG juice options, or even KNOW what that was. and their juice was cheap as china's. basically seemed like a front to dupe old ladies and people who can't use the internet. however they get a LOT of attention being a brick and mortar so i can't say they are stupid...
