Dripping vs. topping off?

Hello all. I am pretty new to vaping and loving it! I got an Npro to start off with, had good results until I fried my atty, had to go back to analogs (ick) while I waited for Super parts from Totally Wicked that are compatible with my Npro stuff. Good service from TW. I was having a hard time getting good vapor and throat hit with the new stuff so I tried dripping 2 drops directly onto the atty and got great hits. Is this the correct dripping technique? Is there a downside to this method? I had such good results before just topping off and it seems simpler and less messy. If I drip some and top off some will I waste equipment or is that part of the learning curve? I really love vaping and want to enjoy maximum pleasure but I can't afford to squander attys. Any help would be appreciated.

as far as i know, dripping straight on the atomizer is good for when the cart is running dry or you just want to vape heavily. when i use my n pro and i drip plus top off the cart, i tend to get juice in my mouth. this is because there is too much juice for the atomizer to burn. it depends on how it tastes to me. if its dry or burnt tasting then ill drip the atty and topm off with my 901.
atomizers dont tend to over heat often. esspecially the npros. i have been using the same atomizer for months now and its still fine as far as vapor production is concerned. so id say if its heating up that much and its fried: somethings wrong with the battery, or your not giving it a chance to cool down because of heavy vaping. if it is the vaping part and its too little to satisfy, then id suggest getting a better e cig like a 901 or a titan. (my opinion)
personally the npro is too weak for me. theres hardly any throat hit even with my 36mg juice and the carts dont hold much juice. they dry out really fast in my opinion.
thats what i know for the most part. hope this helps.

Yeah, dripping 2-4 drops onto the wick is perfect dripping technique :). I do a mix of dripping and topping off. I drip a couple drops for that great hit and top off so it lasts a while before I have to add liquid again. If you're using new atty's sometimes it takes a couple of days for them to get up to full vapor production. The break in period varies, but even though I vape A LOT it takes a day at least on a new one before I'm really happy with vapor production. Another thing you can do is add a little VG either to your liquid or add a couple of drops to your cart when you top off, it really increases the amount of vapor you get.

Dripping or topping off (or mixing the 2) is really a matter of figuring out what works for you. I mostly top off and I drip a couple drops on the wick or puddle enough on the cart so that it's like dripping, but that's what works for me and might not work for others. Try a few different things and find out what works best for you. As long as you are happy with your vaping (and you're not killing your equipment on a daily basis :) ) then you're doing it right.

I get better results just topping off - too easy to flood my atomizer with dripping, and kind of annoying to disassemble the thing and mess with a bottle of liquid every few hits. The only time I really drip is when I want to temporarily change the flavor of a cart - a couple drops of caramel or vanilla on an apple atomizer, yum... :)
