Dropped my battery in coffee. Any chance it will survive?

All I can say is thank goodness I decided to order a backup battery this week, and that it's set to be delivered tomorrow, because I just absentmindedly dropped my Volt right in my coffee cup as I was reaching across my desk  I've only had the darn thing for 2 weeks!

Has anyone done this before? Any chance it will survive? The button wasn't submerged, but the LED was, and has been sitting over in the corner in a paper towel randomly flickering ever since. I know with some technology as long as you don't use it until it dries completely it will be fine, but since the LED is flickering it would seem that it's trying to work right now.

Also, is this dangerous in any way? Should I not have it here in the room with me?

Ugh, and now I am down to one battery until the mail comes tomorrow, which means stinkies while I am charging. Of course, this situation makes me want one right now, because . . . grrrrrr

Cookie if you didn't removed the battery you have a snowy phone inside :D.

Turtlechelle was it a 65-75mm bat? Manual i suppose since you are reffering to a button. What cookie said seems to be the best solution. You might as well take the end cap off and take a look inside or even swipe it gently with some paper and then back to rice. Since the button wasn't submerged you might save it without any damage. You can also if you can find silica gel bags which are more aggressive on absorbing moisture, the ones on shoe boxes or new appliances.

If it was an auto.... Damn than sensor would be impossible to remove the coffee from inside it. Only with ultrasounds maybe possible.

Konstantine, I removed the battery from my phone first, then dropped both in the rice. I did get some little rice bits stuck, but nothing I couldn't get back out! =)

Konstantine - thanks for the advice. Removed the endcap and wiped it out as best I could, then tucked it back into the rice (with the encap back on, of course ;) )

Ego - Makes me feel better to know that someone else's battery has survived coffee :)

So, now I wait and see what happens. I still have a few pre-filled cartos for the first e-cig I ordered before I discovered SI, so I guess I'll have to break that one out when my good battery needs a charge later. Hopefully that will be enough. I think the Volt has probably spoiled me, though.

Smart girl.
Unfortunatelly VOLT devices have integrated batteries which cannot be removed and electrolysis may oxidize connections or destroy the PCB on the airflow sensor assembly untill the battery discharges completely.
You only can hope and help to remove moisture from the inside. Luckily the holes of the battery are very small and if you remove it fast from the liquid it won't have much time soaking everything inside.

You can leave the end cap off to allow better ventilation inside.

How much sugar you drink in your coffee will be a factor too, if it was black when the coffee dries it may just dry like water leaving littler residue behind, if there is sugar in the coffee it will leave a sticky residue that will probably mean the battery is toast. let us know how you make out.

Sadly, I use sugar and flavored creamer in my coffee. At this point I'm thinking best case is that I lose the LED but keep some functionality, but more than likely the battery is a goner. If so, I'll just pick up another one as soon as my vaping budget resets next month. Still finding it hilarious that I decide to order a backup battery right as I end up needing one, though.

Buy yes, I'll come back and update this thread as soon as I have a verdict.

Because I am an impatient person, it had been more than 24 hours, and I just had to plug in my "good" battery, I tried the coffee victim just now. It works perfectly! There's not even any weird flickering going on with the LED!!

I'm putting it back in the rice for another day just to be extra sure that all of the moisture is out, and this one will be relegated to official backup status as soon as my new one arrives this afternoon, but it looks like I've confirmed that the Volt battery is well-sealed and the LED is a resilient little sucker. So, it's as awesome as everything else about SI!

Thanks again to you guys for advising me to get it wiped out and packed away in rice right away. This could have ended quite differently without your help.
