If the Protank 3 uses a dual coil head, well I read somewhere something about not trying to dry burn dual (or triple or quad) coils much. Whether it is true or not I do not know. If the wicks are silica they should be heat resistant to a degree. I only use single coils and silica so I generally dry burn to red hot, after cleaning with water and alcohol.

Thanks I'll look up dual coils since I can't find anything specific to the Mini 3. It is silica but one end has a drk spot that will not go away.

Between the wife and I, we have 10 Kanger BDC tanks (Pro III Minis, EVOD II, EVOD Glass) and, for what its worth, I never had much luck cleaning the coils. I tried dry burning, alcohol soaking, etc. but they never seemed to work as well or taste as good as new.

I bought some 30ga Kanthal, and surgical cotton, and I now rebuild them as single coils. 8 wraps on a 1/16" drill bit gets me a single coil at 1.8 ohm. I run a small, tightish wick through the coil and top off with a loose "flavor wick" to fill in the dual coil slot. They seem to work as well as the factory coils, and cost all of about $0.10 to make and only take about 3 minutes to make.

Now we change coils on a whim. If we get a dry hit, think its wicking poorly, or change to a radically different flavor, we change the coil without a second thought and throw the old one in a bag. Once a week or so, I sit down and re-wrap the dirty ones collected in the bag. Its a one, maybe two beer job at most.

I may get in to the rebuilding soon but for now I have 3 Mini Pro's so I have to make them work. I think I am just going to have to change the coils. I loved the Mini's at first but now I am using my single coil T3 more.

Another option short of making the coil yourself are these pre-made coils from Fasttech:
$2.16 Pre-Coiled Welded Wires - NR-R-NR (50-Pack) 50-pack - 32 AWG / 1.5ohm / 30*30mm at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

While I haven't used these specific coils, I have used others that have the wick in them ( 1593911 ) , and they work great. At 4-5¢ each, it's hard to resist.https://www.fasttech.com/products/1593911

This also provides the opportunity to go with the wick material of your choice, and my latest most-favorite is rayon(!)

I also just watched a video of the recoiling of the dual coil heads with just a single coil. Worked just fine, and didn't even bother with a flavor wick (which I thought would be needed for leakage control).

Need to take a stab at this with my new Aerotank heads with the pre-made coils...
