I nominate Ocelot as King of the thread, with Katya as duchess until his avatar eats hers.

I linked to a copy of their report in my post, but yeah, don't dry-burn this stuff. It isn't for me, and I don't think I could recommend them right now in good conscience; but I probably wouldn't lose sleep over it if well saturated. There's a reason why people working with sand and fiberglass particulates wear masks as there are very serious known risks.

Lol! I didn't click on the "fiberglass paper" link in your post, since I thought it would go somewhere explaining what fiberglass paper is. I just found the lab report on the same mirror site and PM'd it to Katya. ^5!

ETA: Regarding wearing masks, I speculated on another thread that the purpose of the wire mesh ring that sits on top of the filler material might be to block escaping fibers.

Then I nominate myself as duke of the thread, and give notice that I am willing to eat everyone until science says it is bad for me.

And clever thought at the mesh, though my hunch is it's far too large a weave for that and is more about:
(a) Helping keep liquid from going up the tube via surface tension and sciency stuffins
(b) Helping to keep down spitting at blendomatic wattages

I've definitely seen reports of cloned versions with less-fine meshes spitting more, but I'm mostly guessing about (a).

We don't know what that material is exactly, but per their lab report, now deleted from the website, it's fiberglass. Aspire doesn't claim anything anymore wrt to the material they use.

Aspire Support: •View topic - bvc wicking material

The filler crumbles and burns and it's wrapped around the heating coil. Please don't dry burn it.

And here's part 2 of the video you linked:

Fair enough! You've obviously done more research than what I did! Sorry for any mis-information :-/ Have since switched to naturevape cotton microcoil heads in my Kanger tanks- they're fab! Highly recommend them!

I've been eying those Nature Vape coils for quite a while now! Lucky you! We can't get them here. All we can do is rebuild Kanger coils ourselves. Grrr.... I'm jealous. Enjoy!

Every two days, i sock them for 4 hours, then air dry them for 12 hours, after flushing the coil with hot water.

1/4 cup peroxide, 1/4 cup water, 1/2 table spoon of baking soda.

Thank you! I saw your post on this (in another thread) and I have a question. Could you equate "two days" in terms of "how many mils" you run through these coils before you do your cleaning?

I have no problems dry burning my flavor wicks and my coil. And the coil itself. But after they are clean I drip a drop or 2 on the wicks/coild to self prime it. Plus dry hit it a few times just in case.
I use http://www.hoosierecig.com/Smok-Tech-PBC-Tank_p_765.html. Not sure if they are related.

Just my .000001 cents.

No. Just NO.

Please don't dry burn a BVC.

The filler/wicking material burns if it is not soaked in e-liquid. Ask Phil Busardo.

I did it once, just to see........

Never again, I boil mine, rinse, boil again then dry them or if it's a strong flavour like anise etc I take it out and propel it towards the bin

Thanks for all the info. Looking over this post I will not be dry burning my coils. The ceramic has got me a little bit worried but as long as I keep it saturated I'm thinking it's safe but I will be switching tanks and %100 cotton coils is a must. (best mouth hitter tank?)

Off topic but I like Pete Busardo's reviews but damn he's bashing my evic supreme. I love my evic. I'm looking for a vv/vw upgrade though with a tank that's not so controversial/safe coils.

Dry burning a bare coil on an RBA to clean off the gunk is fine, but personally, I wouldn't dry burn anything that's wicked and assembled with heat-sensitive parts like silicon grommets, unknown filler materials (BVC), etc. Even if the silica or whatever material it is they're using for filler can handle it, I've learned the hard way that those little grommets can't, and once they're scorched, it'll taste burnt forever.

Anyway, when you think about it, all that overnight soaking, scrubbing, boiling, hot water down the drain, and endless other screwing around starts to seem like a huge waste of time and resources (namely...hot water) when there are so many affordable, easy to build RBAs on the market now. All that maintenance time might be better spent perfecting your coil building skills on an atty you can rebuild again and again with minimal hassle. Just IMO.

Just to echo jambi's comments.

Just because some vaper on youtube 'thinks' they can dry burn a BVC doesn't mean much unless he/she is prepared to take it apart.

I HAVE taken these things apart, and they are not nice. Getting the coil to glow red and not give off smoke anymore doesn't mean the rest of it is healthy and clean.

It's not. Either use them and throw away or go fully rebuildable. (or both, in my case... :) )

I agree. You can build or un-build an RBA in minutes and get on with your life.

About 20ml of juice, 0mg nicotine. I use sweet juice that is mostly fruit flavored, max VG.

Is it necessary to put that wire mesh back in after rebuilding or can we trash it. I'm using cotton if I can bring myself to even try to rebuild this atty. I'm not too worried about cotton fibers escaping....
