DSE-901 Pass-through current draw?

I have ordered the above mentioned item and am worried that the current drawn will be too much for the laptop.

Has anyone ever fried a PC/laptop using a pass-through? The site I bought from claims it needs to draw at least 1300mah!!!

I have since read that the maximum current that can be drawn from a computer USB port is 500mah?!? Even my USB charger only puts out 1A. The site does, rather conveniently, sell high-power 2A USB power supplies. Are they just trying to sell them by scaremongering, or could it really need so much?

Can anyone shed any light?

It all depends on your computer, if it's an older model there might be a problem with that much current draw. I personally wouldn't want to risk it either way. A 2 amp USB converter would provide plenty of current, and the cost is minimal compared to losing a computer.

Another thing to consider is that there is a very slight chance of getting an atty or carto that is electrically shorted. I don't know how the USB port on your computer would handle that.

Thanks. Would it be safe in the car on a USB adapter then? Surely the worst that could happen would be a blown fuse?

Seems much better value than the vendor of the pass-through, especially when shipping is factored in.
