Hello I am new, trying to get started in vaporing so I can dump the Analogs. I have been reading the boards for the past 2 wks, so decided I better join in and ask questions. From what I have read, my first purchase will be either the DSE-901 or the Vapor King ecig. However I am wanting to know the difference between the DSE-901 vs Vapor King ecig? A decent tight pull or draw and a smooth menthol flavor are my two major needs. Battery usage would me third need. I am already thinking about getting the manual, to save on battery usage. Right now I smoke Virginia Slim Menthol Full Flavor, and I never smoke something different. Salems and Kools are too harsh, and a different mint flavor, which I do not like. Appreciate any input between the DSE-901 vs Vapor King ecig. Thanks in advance!

I'm probably not qualified to answer as I don't own either, but since no one else has jumped in for the last six hours, here you go...

The major difference is the Vapor King is a two piece unit that uses 'cartomizers', whereas the 901 is a three piece unit consisting of a battery, atomizer, and cartridge.

While the cartomizers supposedly last longer, they are meant to be disposable. People do refill them, but from what little I have read it's a bit more complicated. I also understand that the two piece cartomized ecigs are more of a 'specialty' item and aren't carried by as many vendors.

The 901 is everywhere, easy to maintain, and you can very easily (and cheaply) get replacement parts for. They are more 'standardized', and you can mix and match components from various vendors. You also have more options that you could custom tailor to suit your needs, such as high or low bridges.

Lastly, there are 901 adapters for various other PVs out there, which will allow you to use your 901 atomizers and carts on other devices. This is a big plus in my opinion, as you can make an investment now in backup/replacement parts that can be used later down the road when/if you move to other devices. Like most people, I started out just having to have something that looked like a cigarette. I quickly got over that and have moved on to the Janty Stick as my primary device which looks nothing like a cigarette. Now I'm looking at moving up to a Prodigy or Chuck for at home power vaping.

There is a ton of info here on both of these models, and I don't think you could really go wrong with either in terms of usability and performance. But there is definitely pros and cons to each, in my opinion. Good luck!

OK, I own both, so here are my observations from my own personal use.

Flavor: The Vapor King Cartomizers produce as much if not more flavor than the 901 carts, while offering the convenience of buying a multitude of prefilled options. Both provide vibrant flavor, but the 808 produces slightly warmer air which feels more like smoking.

Battery Life: My Vapor King batteries simply stomp the life of my 901s. I bet about 2 hours from a 901 and 4-6 out of my Vapor Kings. This may have nothing to do with style and more to do with the specific batteries since I bought the 901 and VK batteries from different vendors.

Ease of Use: The cartomizer concept is by far the easiest thing to use. Screw on cartomizer, inhale. That's it. No bothering with messy carts and polyfill. Some will say that you can't refill a cartomizer and that is absolutely not true. In fact, I find that refilling cartomizers is easier, less messy, and more reliable than filling carts. You can re-use the cartomizer many times over.

Customer Service: the two folks that I deal with that sell this model, Drew at Nhaler, and Steve at Vapor4Life are consumate professionals. They both stand behind their products and make themselves available for customer concerns and questions.

Draw: I find the draw on these very similar, but the VK has more throat hit. I actually feel like I am smoking and can feel the smoke. If you prefer a smoother inhale, the 901 is better in this regard.

One last note. Many of the parts are interchangeable for these devices (such as the charging kits and passthroughs) so buying both is not necessarily a bad idea.

ETA: The point Centronix makes about mods is a good one. If you think you will ever step it up to one of the high voltage or high battery capacity devices, the 901 is more appropriate since many designers have adapters for these. Drew at Nhaler is working on a cartomizer friendly mod, but to my knowledge no others exist on the market.

I can second the Customer service from Nhaler and Vapor4life! Super service - check their forums in the Supporting Suppliers section. Right now I am waiting anxiously for my VK! Should arrive today and I will be able to compare to my 510 which I love but is rather high maintenence compared to the VK. I am hoping I love it because I have so many people I want to introduce to vaping and simpler is better when starting out. :)

+1 to the fantastic service from those companies. By reading reviews on V4Life and personal experience from Drew at NHaler.

I own the KR808D (Vapor King). I tell you, even though I REALLY like my 4081... I can't put this thing down. It is so easy to use, and so easy to refill... and the flavor / throat hit combo just can not be beat.

I would say the only thing a 901 is really going to consistently have an advantage over an 808 is oging to be vapor production right off the bat, however once you refill a cartomizer with some of the same type of juice - it steams right along just fine - so with the current 555 / VG / vanilla I currently have loaded in my catomizer right now -> I get clouds of vapor out of my 808.

So yeah I'm biased. I really like my KR808D :D

Take care,
- Hap

Thanks for the feedback! I had not read where the Vapor King was a cartomizers. For me, that would make a huge difference, in not being able to do refills. Now I am ready to order my 901. Thanks again for this bit of information! It really did help me make that finale decision and which one to purchase.

Happy Vaporing!

You absolutely can refill a cartomizer - many times over in fact. Not saying that the 901 is a bad choice, but certainly don't make your decision based solely on the ability to refill.

This is the type of specific info I was looking for. I had never really thought about the ‘feel’ of smoking. Surely something to think about. In fact, this would be ideal in helping to get off the nic. I have been looking for a simulator device for years, but hadn’t found anything that would give that type of satisfaction. I just recently discovered there were e-cigs, so this is exactly what I have been looking for. I really like the looks of the Vapor King! Knowing me, I will probably end up with both the VK and 901. One for the car, and one for home. The Vapor King would be ideal in the car, with no fuss, no mess. The only con is being restricted to two vendors, thus far that I can find, who sell the VK, however I really like the reviews I read on Steve. Thanks for the info!

Happy Vaporing!
