you know exactly which quote I am refering to ......
part of the 12 pages where you are berating everyone and everything for copying your minifogger.

you said in that post that you bought a competitors ecig and copied it, and improved on it,
then decided not to go ahead with distribution and sales of your improvement of their model.
tell us where is the difference here.

News: We have just finished a trow away atomizer inside the cartridge model, just like the LT. Ok to be honest: we purchased the LT and copied it, then we improved it. Needs a bit more testing but looks alright for now... it's just that we think it still is kind of unnecessary waste, so we are considering other options too. - Ludo 09/25/08
That is called research! not sales!

oh sorry how silly of me,
you just throw away your company cash to copy other peoples stuff with no intention of selling it,
is that what they call a tax writeoff.

silly me, - I thought if you liked your
-- improvements --
you would have sold it .

Thats what happpens when you get old like me,
you don't really understand these business things.

well this has been fun Ludo,
but I really think that you and I don't have anything to fight about,
I didn't copy anything,

No, we do not sell any copied stuff, we just learn from it! And no it is not wasted money, a lot of companies do research, copy stuff to test it and it never sees the daylight. Knowledge is everything!

for context:

@jarvis: really well done, but I must agree with Jag...

Even if it would work, the pieces are so tiny, not every user would be able to handle these small pieces I think...

will the 801 may look like the KB , but it may be a vast improvement, i don't see the difference,
Like the switch threads , improved battery technology, better chip programming, different atomizer designs/technology..... who knows......just because it looks similar doesnt mean it infringes copyright necessarily

So then you question the European Community Agency for MODELS design patents where we have successfully registered the KISSBOX classic, The KISSBOX Yentl and 7 other models, which ARE protected designs? You agree with the Ifone next to the Iphone? you agree to a generic car that looks exactly like a mercedes? If there where no protection, this world would be grey, no unique products, no inventions, no designs...

i've often heard and I believe that the best artists are thieves...

on that note, I don't doubt that this new manual switch is a copy of Janty's, however, it's not worth the legal battle IMO.

thousands of products are duplicated by large retailers. target, walmart, kmart, etc. all have copies of products with their name on them and they don't pay a dime to the original patent owner.

a superior quality product and excellent customer service will always lead consumers back to the original manufacturer. i don't know the quality of this new "copy" but if it is better than a KB, then that means Janty needs to get to work ;)

just my 02

Copyrights and patents are not "sometimes" things. They're not selectable. They're intellectual property as surely as the land below the Empire State Building is property with real value. You cannot steal property for your use without compensation to the property owner.

But it's done. It's illegal and shameful and threatens a world where superior products with valuable names become less valuable and the companies that make the real goods lose real value. Run that thread out to its end and tell me you see anything good.

Theft of intellectual property is no different than me helping myself to a room in your house. I doubt you'd like it. I think you'd take legal action if I said I wasn't going anywhere. Justify "cheaper prices" all you want, but the end does not justify the means. Theft is just plain wrong.

I certainly don't discredit that at all TB. Patents and copyrights have their value but many manufacturers choose not to file suit in cases of infringement because the "copied" product is not of the same quality. Copyrights are a waste of time in this situation anyway. As long as Janty has the patent, they're set.

I think Janty should follow through with their patent and find out how exact a replica this model is to the KB.

I'll still stand by my "the best artists are thieves" comment though because it's true. This isn't to say that the maker of this janty "copy" are thieves though. They're copycats and copycats are bad.

oh, and TB - if I find you sitting in my living room tomorrow morning, you best have a bottle of Kahlua in your hand :p
