i just bought a screw driver from totallywicked, the kit i bought was with 1 atomizer, 1 battery and 1 charger.

On the 2nd day, i noticed that the vapor was tasting rather foul and chemical like, so i decided to investigate and clean every thing out and start all over.

This had no effect, and after i did a glow test on the atomizer, it just starts producing this nasty smoke all on its own, ive held the batt button down for over a minute and it just keeps producing this nasty smoke.. im guessing my atomizer is toast some how.

So my question is, if i order the 901 to 510 atomizer adapter, can i use DSE901 cartridges with the 510? will it fit? cause i only have 1 cartidge right now that came with the screw driver, which had a dse901 atomizer.

Thanks for your help!

You've started to do a dry burn to clean the atty. If you just keep it up, pressing the button just now and then like its a pulsing light, you should burn off whatever nasty is on the atty. The trick is to just make it glow a dull red/orange not a bright red. That will burn out the atty for sure but the duller glow will burn away whatever. If you've burnt out the atty then it won't glow at all.

Ultimately it should glow with no smoke and then it should taste fine. You can get a 901->510 adapter and use 510 atty on your DSE905. The make adapters to the DSE801 also. madvapes.com carries adapters among lots of places.

I have a screwdriver and the 510 series including the Tornado (eGo). (Actually, this has become a hobby for me and I have just about one of everything out there, including 5 that I've designed)

Anyhow, when I get that chemical or nasty smell/taste from any of the systems that I use; it's typically that the atomizer is running too hot. Meaning, not enough of the liquid is getting to it. And when you switch out the cartridge, for a new one…. it doesn't seem to get any better.

A couple different systems out there work best if the atomizers are primed. (2 or 3 drops of eliquid on the wick). My Screwdriver is one of those.

I don't know if you fill your own cartridges. If you don't, you may want to invest in a small bottle of eLiq. so you can do this from time to time. Since I do all my own cartridges, I usually only need to prime a new atomizer, because I try to never run a cartridge dry.

On your other question; it sounds like you have a 510 model and you want to use up the 901 cartridge. One other possibility that you may want to consider; would be to get a “901-510 adapter(901/808D-1 bat to 510 at)” at Totally Wicked.

I had a large investment in the 510 series when I bought my Screwdriver. So, I use this adapter to use my 510 cartridges and atomizers with the Screwdriver battery. It’s one of my favorite set-ups. But, you have to be on top of how dry the atomizer is getting.

I don’t know if I helped or confused you. Even though I’ve been doing the eCigs for over a year, I rarely have time (my wife has terminal cancer) to get on these forums. So, I’m sure that you get several other’s input.

Good Luck.

Think of ejuice as the oil in a car engine - and the atty is the engine. If you run your engine without oil you will damage it - same applies to atties not getting enough juice on them. The juice keeps it from burning out - if you held the battery button down for over a minute, without any juice you've probably burnt out the coil or are burning the coil (which would make a hideous smell). The ' dry burn' method uses tiny short pulses of heat to stop that happening; just enough to burn off crud, not too much to begin burning the coil.
Atties need to be kept 'oiled' - please just drip juice on them if they start to smell or smoke; it usually (but not always..) means they aren't wet enough.

FWIW I have used (and use) both 901 and 510 atties and providing they are well mositened haven't had issues with either - the 901s however don't seem to like HV usage much; the 510 works fine with anything so far. 901 carts fit a 510 atty, Im not sure about the revrese - the 510 carts tend to be slightly larger.

So this atty is pretty much done for then? ive tried pulsating it for like an entire 30 mins but it just keeps producing that awfulness that i cant stand, i think its even giving me a headache.. i refuse to breath in anymore of it, ill just get some new attys, id like to try the 510 attys on it

thing is, which 510 atty do i use on the screw driver? a normal 510, one of those mega titan ones? or does it matter?

Thanks for all the quick responses guys n gals!

30 minutes and it didn't burn clean? Sounds like a defective atty for sure. I suggest starting with a normal 510 atty. Or the larger sized mega one. Don't try the LR (for low resistance) atty to start but its something you can try later. They make LR 901 atty also. Since your PV is only 3.7V it won't work well with the HV (high voltage) style atty.

Your DSE901 cartridge will fit into the normal 510 atty but not the mega one. So if you get the mega atty make sure to get a mega cartridge. I'd suggest also getting another DSE901 atty. I personally prefer the 901 to the 510 and perhaps you may, once you get a good one.

Ah thanks bsoplinger, i'm going to try another dse901 or one of those rn4075's.. havent decided yet, and then i want to try a 510.. just dont have the funds till next month probably! :( ... So if the atty is dry, and the cartridge isnt on the atty, and u hold the button down, should it produce any vapour at all? cause it produces vapour but it smells real bad, do u think that a diet soda soak might fix it if my ejuice some how got burnt onto it and thats where the foul smell and vapour is coming from? The ejuice im using is Cola from DIY

Some liquids will leave behind a residue as they get vaporized and that will gunk up an atomizer. So even when the atomizer seems dry there is still that gunk. Doing a dry burn will attempt to carbonize (burn) the gunk off the atty. Once its all been carbonized you'd still want to rinse it to get the residue off. My suggestion…

Just a soak for 10-15 minutes in hot as it gets tap water, no need for boiling water. Swish it around some, agitate it. Let dry 24+ hours. If you don't have other attys you can burn it dry. Look for threads on how to do a dry burn cleaning to see how to use the battery or a PT to dry out the atty but don't yet continue on to do a dry burn cleaning itself. Instead when its dry try 2 or 3 drops or e-liquid and then take a puff or two, don't bother with the cartridge at all. If it tastes really bad wash it again and then follow the rest of the dry burn directions. If it tastes OK then fill a cartridge and you should be good.
