I have a 901. I really am not sure if it is defective or not. I honestly have not over used it or anything, so I am not sure why it seems so inconsistent.

Im curious if im having a problem , or if thats just how the 901 works. I can put in a fresh cartridge and all, and to get smoke I have to really suck on the thing hard, and i usually dont get as much smoke as i see in the video reviews. Many times I have to put my finger on that little hole to get it to start smoking properly and get the battery to actually light. The cartridges do not seem to last long AT ALL. After using it just a few times i start tasting something burnt, sometimes the cotton in the catridge gets sucked up into that atomizer.

Inhaling through it never wants to turn the battery on fully unless i suck like a cambodian prostitute or put my finger on the hole. i have switched to the 2nd atomizer i got with the kit, changed batteriers. changed cartridges, dripped. It just seems very inconsistent and quite difficult to get good inhales of decent smoke.

sounds like your atty. i had the same prob with my first 901, you know that little hole you're covering up on the atty? yeah, it's probably drilled too large. does it whistle a lot?

if there's too much air flowing it won't create the vaccuum needed to activate the switch in the battery, hence...how you have to cover it. i'd replace the atty and try again.

i love 901's, get great smoke and i found they pull alot lighter than a analog you should be having a better experience, so it seems there is an issue

This could be a few things.

-is the atomizer new it may still be in the breakin period(give it time)

-the airhole on the atomizer may be clogged with something(tooth pic it)

-bad battery sensor(try take batt off and blow hard in to batteryr, then suck hard to "force" the switch to flip flop may just be sticky)

as for the cart, top off often they dont last too long

also try a hit with no mouth piece and see if there is a difference,

burnt flavor is dry cart try sentance above with two drops directly in atom

Gee, I remember those first days when I started vaping with a 901. You can do all the things suggested and you might get it to work a little better for a very short while and then you will be back with the same problems. Or if you want it to vape like the first day you got it, you can replace the battery and the atomizer with brand new ones every 5-6 days. But if you get one drop of liquid in that battery you will gum up that switch again. Yeah, I vaped upside down and did all those little voodoo dances to try and get consistent performance from my 901 and 801.

Now I just pick up my PV, top it off and vape non-stop for 6-8 hours, topping off when needed, getting consistent throat hit every inhale. No fuss, no muss, no frustration, no voodoo dances.

I remember being where you are at.

wv2win, sounds like you are suggesting the OP try a different model....would be helpful if you stated the suggestion clearly (since even I'm confused as to what you are trying to say). ;)

On a side-note, my very first model was a 901 and despite trying several different models, I find the 901 to be my favorite to this day. I've had a couple of hiccups/annoyances along w/ the way, but I would expect nothing less from any other model. Matter of fact, I'm still on the same batteries and atomizers since the day I started, and that includes using them in mods up to 5 volts. :D Yep, I'm a die-hard 901 fan! :hubba:

It would be helpful to know which models you have tried that you are comparing the 901 to and have decided it is better than other models. Also it would be helpful to know exactly how you vape and how long your batteries last between charges. I'm hitting my PV approximately 15-20 times an hour. I was a pack and a half a day smoker.

thanks guys for all the feedback and help. Yes when i inhale i really hear the air flowing through that little hole a lot. i took the mouth piece off and sucked in and i still hear the air, but it seemed to be a little better, got some smoke too with no mouth piece on. guess it was residue juice. I got my 901 from the smokelessshop i think. I really have not used it that much since i got it, so maybe its not broken in fully i have no idea. I just know the activate the battery with the sucking is kind of a real pain

I've had a 901 that acted like what you describe with the thing not turning on unless I suck like a hoover.

I popped the LED cap off and enlarged the two vents slightly then replaced it. Problem solved. There seems to be a need for some air flow through the battery for the switch to work correctly (microphonic switch, no sound, no activation).

What model of PV are you using? I have tried several myself and have settled with the dse901 as a primary. Would really like to find a model that gives me 6-8 hours without swapping batteries, topping off carts, etc.

I had a similar issue with my first 901 atty/batt stock. Ordered new attys and batts and was up and rocking no problems. Yes, carts don't last 1/2 a pack and my batt life was approx. 1.5 hours. I found the batts are touchy and not all turn on/off with the same ease. Making sure the atty was tight and 1/4 turn back off with the battery helped.

Have sinced moved to the JS which uses the cigar batt and 801 atty/carts and have found my vapor unit of choice. 5+ hours of battery life and close to 1/2 a pack cart performance. The larger components (not huge mind you) are not as slick as the 901 mini but wanting/needing the 'real' smoke experience meant sacraficing the analog look/feel - for now.

Bottom line is don't give up. The 501 manual switch is getting a lot of good talk and seems to be the nice inbetween step from the 901 to 801 in size, usage, life. And, not much more expensive ~$50.

Might want to look at a mod ...maybe like a nicostick or UPAC. It's small and the battery last a long time. ( all day and then some ) granted it does not look like a typical e-cig but it might be what your looking for.

This is how my NEW DSE901 is acting. IM not getting the whistling....but i have to suck like a "Cambodian prostitute" to get the battery light on.The vapor it produces is nice but sucking so hard like that takes any enjoyment out of it. That said i also have an NPRO that i have been using for a week or so. At first it was extremely hard to get to turn on as well BUT it has started "breaking in" i think because now it turns on "most time" with no more effort than an anologue. So i am hoping that this will be the case with my DSE901.I though it was the funny mouthpiece at first but its not beacuse its just as hard with my lips right on the atty. Smooth vapor when it works though. My NPRO RIPS though ..........makes it kinda hard to keep messing around with the MINI . I will let you know if it " breaks in"

Why don't you just buy a model that works every time without any issues?

Why do you spend your entire day(no-life) harassing people into buying models you OBVIOUSLY have an interest in. Your not offering up any Information or "help" just telling people to buy another unit right off the back EVERY TIME. I already have THREE of these things and want to make sure this is gonna work for me...BEFORE i purchase ALL 7 off the"list".....And im sure i will need ALL 7 otherwise you will just suggest the one that i dont have.....LOL . Your like a ...... pusher..........OH OH ...wait that one didnt get you there ...hold on ,let me hook you up dawg....im gonna SELL you some out my personal stash just beacuse your my favorite knock.....i mean customer......hehehe:cool:

Maybe if you had actually done some due diligence and research instead of just coming on here and "crying like a little girl" you might have had better luck. Keep sucking like a vacuum cleaner and complaining. You and your PV obviously deserve each other, tool.
