DSE901 Throat hit

I ordered 2 DSE901 kits from e-smokeytreats.com on Tuesday and got them yesterday with plenty of their liquid. (Let me just say, e-smokeytreats is FANTASTIC. They shipped right away, order was completely correct and the box / presentation of the DSE901 was superb).

Anyway I'm noticing that I am getting NO throat hit at all with the carts that came with it and with any of the juice. It produces ungodly amounts of vapor but I also am looking for that throat hit. Any suggestions? Is it due to the juice or the 901 itself?

The juice is fantastic, good flavor and vapor. I guess I am looking for the same hit as my Dura-C which is amazing as well!

EDIT: I'm using high (18MG) carts.

what strength cartriges did you order. For ex analogue smokers I would recommend high strength as a starting point unless you want to quit.

I've been ordering high -18mgish. Have the same levels for my other e-cigs and they all give some sort of throat hit.

I totally disagree with this. For most people, when they first start vaping as a total or significant replacement for analogs, they tend to vape A LOT. Consequently, it is quite easy to take in way too much nicotine if you start off with a very high nicotine concentration.

Of course, this is in no way universal as there are some folks who seem to tolerate the high nicotine levels very well, but I do not necessarily think that's the norm. For many, vaping high concentrations of nicotine will actually cause them to take in MORE nicotine than their previous tobacco habit. The side effects of too much nicotine can be pretty unpleasant, including a killer headache.

And this is coming from a former 2+ pack a day smoker of 30 years.

Far better is to start with medium strength or even low and then keep a bottle of high on hand to spike the cartridge when you feel a strong craving.

As for the "hit" with the DSE901, no, you're not going to get the same "hit" as you do with a Dura-C. That's one of the reasons why when the Dura is working well, some of us get practically teary-eyed when talking about it.

However, you can get a nice hit with the DSE901, and it's not all tied to nicotine levels. For example, I can get a very nice throat hit with my DSE901 and PureSmoker Energee medium (I believe it's the same as Red Bull). You'll just have to experiment.

Thanks Julie, I appreciate it. I actually talked to Phil over at E-Smokeytreats.com where I purchased them and he was surprised I didn't get a throat hit from the 901. I experimented and tried RY4 in the 901 with the same lackluster results. Vapor production on the 901 is amazing though.

My best suggestion with the DSE901 is that your best hit comes when the atomizer is very hot. What I do is I take a short puff, then a much longer, leisurely draw. That allows the atomizer to heat up a bit.

When I'm really feeling the urge, I simply drip two drops of high nicotine solution directly into the atomizer then puff with no cartridge or mouthpiece. Yup, I put my mouth directly on the metal atomizer, and I can feel the heat as I inhale. I'm very bad.

You could also try the trombone inhaling effect like Parked does... Doing it that way i almost choke on my 901 each time, and i must have a throat hit on my pieces!

LOL. This would get rid of the "what is the cart filling and how does it react when it heats / melts" issue!!

I am not giving up on this, I'm still experimenting. I'm used to my Dura-C which requires nothing special to get knocked over with throat hit every vape. I like the vapor production and the draw of it. I think it's a fun, puff puff e-cig and it gets the job done but after smoking for 20 years I really want that throat hit.

Phil over at e-smokeytreats.com has been very nice to speak with me about it and I refuse to give his product or juice a bad rep. I'm doing something wrong- I must be. DSE901 users are normally a pretty content bunch and out of 4 atomizers and 4 batteries, different liquid, etc I'm getting the same result- vape but no throat hit. I'll play with my technique a bit.

JustJulie........One might also say it Could(being a 901 owner myself),be the juice itself! I find that some of my lesser vapor producing juices(TW for instance),with throat-hit me to the moon and back...while some huge vapor ones just give me a tingle. I have zero DIY juice that kicks better than alot of my commercial! Ozrick......as julie also said you don't draw on these the same way as analogs. A quick puff and a much longer follow-up has worked for me...Good Luck!The wiz!

Thanks Wiz! have been puffing on one all morning (I haven't really used them much as I've been testing out a few others). I am starting to feel a tickle at the back of the throat which is progress.

As far as technique, guess I'm out of practice using a manual switch. I'm working on it!

As to the liquid, I tried the Janty RY4 liquid which always gives me a great throat hit and nothing, so I don't believe the liquid is the issue. Probably me- it always is- ask my husband!

JJ......My DIY consists of 70%PG...30%VG...and a couple of menthol crystals( menthol is my everyday), and I get a "Great" hit with no nic!.....might be the menthol..I really don't know?...I just know it works for me.....Totally Wicked has the best nic hit around...in my humble opinion that is!The Wiz!

Anyways, you can bet I want a throat hit. And, I get it with the 901 I got from Liberation. As a matter of fact, I have a KB, minifoggers, npros and the 901 and the 901 is by far my favorite and feels most like a cigarette to me. I love this one.

I have 24 mg juice and use that the most so far although I also have some 18 and some 36 that I just diluted.

You should definitely get a heavy duty throat hit with the 901. I'm pretty sure that's why most of the forum members who have one love it. It's a great cig with a huge throat hit.

I've found the juices to be similar. Right now I'm using a 36 mg PURE mixed with some 6 mg Johnson. And, that works the same as all the other juices I have. And, I have quite a bit.

I also got my first 901 from Phil and it does take a least a couple of hours to break in the atomizers if not a little longer. I started with 18 mg and now use 24 mg which provides better throat hit. I also could care less about vapor but want throat hit. You can basicly turn your 901 into a Dura-C by holding your finger over the atomizer hole for a second or two when you first inhale and then letting it up and continue to inhale. This will heat up the atomizer. And I don't buy that his harms the atomzier any more than using any manual switch because it is doing basically the same thing.

I still like my 901, but if you really want throat hit, consistency and battery longevity, then do what I did and get a screwdriver. It is just better than both the 901 and 801 that I have. And you can get the batteries without going through a supplier.
