Hi- I went to a local e-cig shop and the employee sold me a 5 pack of dual coil cartomizers from Smoketech and said it would work with my stock 510 batteries. Well, after charging the battery I took one drag from the cartomizer and my battery quit. Now the charge only lasts about 5 minutes on a regular cartomizer. It used to last at least 40 minutes. The box has 1.5 oh on it. Is that a Low Resistance carto and is my battery toast? Sorry I'm not really knowledgeable on resistance yet.

Hi Jac

You prob know this already but just in case not the min size battery for LR (low resistance) or DC (dual coil) carts is 450mA, and most 510 standard batteries are either 180 mA or sometimes 280mA, hence the reference to an Ego battery above which all have standard 510 connections.

LR atty's will provide more power to the coil giving you a more heat, flavour and more vapor. DC do the same but with more effect as there are twin coils that heat up.

Your brick and mortar store is clueless. You need to have a better battery model to use dual coils. This would be a good opportunity for you to upgrade, but not from your local store. I would suggest you get one of these three models. All are better than the over-hyped eGo because they all have better batteries: E-Power 510, Kgo 510 or Riva 510. Here are some well supported suppliers to look at:

Crystal Clear Vaping

E-Power Replacable Battery kit!

KGO kit 1100mAh by SLB

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - EGO E-Power

And I am pretty sure these will all cost less than what you are paying now, locally.

Just thought Id add, as far as my experience goes with LR dual coils.

Even though bigger batts like the KGO can run a dual coil. I find they do so poorly. My first PV was a KGO, and I bought a DCT tank with dual coils 1.5 ohm. They worked ok, no where near as well as a Boge 2.0 ohm single or a Smoktek 1.7. I could hear the difference also, in the "snap, crackle, pop"
.
I recently bought an SVR, and at 4.5 and 5 volts they rip. Huge difference over my KGO. My understanding is its not only the voltage supplied by the battery, but also the max amperage it can push. Even mods like the Lavatube and Provari v1, have problems running a LR dual coil.

But, Im still a Newb. Might be way off...

I have to agree, the 1.5 Ohm DC Smoktechs at 3.7 volts just don't cut it for me either. As to the mods you mention, I haven't used them but have learned some fine mods have protection circuits which, when power is cranked beyond a certain point, see 1.5 Ohms as a short circuit & shut down. This makes sense; if the resistance is too low and especially with an old battery, a rapid drain could be dangerous so that extra protection is a very good idea. Still, seems like they'd have made it kick in at maybe 1.0 Ohm or so....

Oh well... the guys who figured this stuff out make a lot more money at it than I ever did so I ain't gonna second-guess 'em!
Happy Vaping, folks! :vapor:
