I read in another post that using dual coil cartomizers can damage a Riva battery. Is this true? I bought some from FreedomSmoke just to try them, and they are low resistance (1.5 ohm) so I was planning to use them with my Riva.

Is there any danger of damaging the battery?

Also, what are the benefits/downsides of a dual coil?

You get a better vape with a lr carto or dual coil carto. I use them with a Riva/Joye. I use either the boge 2.0 or the ones from CCV that are 1.7 I think.

If you want your battery to last a really long time, it probably will shorten the battery life. They will definitely have to be charged sooner.

I used them on my oldest batteries that I had already gotten some pretty good use out of. I used them on my original Joye batteries that were 5-6 months old at the time and probably gotten another month use out of them. 7 months they're bye-bye.

Downside? Probably shorten battery life, use more juice and some of the lighter more delicate juices it mutes the taste a bit.

From a rating perspective, dual coils are not magic. The Riva is shipped from liberty-flights with 1.5ohm addys. Whether it's rated for these or not I have no clue.

A unit like the E-power or NoEgo IS rated for addies as low as 1.25 ohm, and I'm sure there are many others.

You can get Dual Coil in 2.0ohm, and these days I'm leaning toward these.

The benefit is your not running a single coil at 1.5 ohm, you're running two at 3ohm, or two 4ohm for a 2.0 dual coil. More vapor, but no single coil is operating at 9 watts. They'll last longer than a standard LR addy, they're less likely to burn the filler material, they produce more vapor without flavor loss. There really is no down side, other than 1.5ohm is intense, and one generally downgrades their nicotine concentration.

I've used many cartos on my rivas (still use them when out of the house) including the duals and I've found the resurrector cartos from crystalclearvaping to be my favorite. It's like 22 bucks for 15 of them with free shipping and free driptip. They are made by the same people as the duals but are a single coil carto. They are the same size as a dual coil, so it holds a lot of juice (makes Boge's feel really inadequate in the juice holding department, though I do still love a boge 2.0 @5v). I found the duals don't wick fast enough due to how fast they go through juice, results in burning filler, haven't experienced this on the resurrectors. By far my favorite carto on an ego/riva. They shine even more on a provari @ 3.8-3.9v depending on the juice (doesn't trigger the protection circuit on provari like the duals do either).

My first battery was a Riva and the both of them lasted until I started using dual coil cartos. I'm not sure if it was a coincidence but the cartos vaped great, then one day the batteries would no longer work at all on the same day. I tried them on my T-Rex batteries I ordered later and they would signal a low battery after only an hour or two of vaping (with a standard carto they would work fine). The ego-t worked flawless with the dc cartos though that wouldn't work in the t-rex batteries.

I love my dual coils on the Riva. I cant use them on my GLV. I can use standard on the GLV and will switch those to the riva, just for the flavor change.
As a result, I find standard cartos on Riva my batteries last 3+ hours per charge. On the DC, I get around 2 hours use of a battery.

I've lost one Riva battery in the last 4 months(I have 11 Riva batteries). I suspect the dual coils are responsible for the lower usage life. But I consider the flavor difference worth it.

YMMV

I've used the emdcc on my Rivas...didn't like 'em, to much throat hit for my taste and while the massice juice capacity sounds nice, it starts tasting funky towards the end and since I like to vape several flavs during the day, that capacity wasn't appealing...HOWEVER, the Resurrectors absolutely ROCK!!! I love 'em, they hit my sweet spot right on the button!!!!
