dual continuous coil

I'm really not getting the jist of this build. If you wrap a dual coil using one continuous wire, doesn't it defeat the purpose when you snug the terminal post screws down? Is there really any advantage in this method vs. using two separate coils and when you snug the post screws down they function as one continuous coil?

Is this just a way to show off ones building skills, or it is there some real advantage?
