I bought some DDL to give it a try in my butterscotch recipes. I mixed up a trial batch using FW-DDL @ 5%, FW-Butterscotch @ 5% and FW-Vanilla Custard @ 5% with a touch of sweetener. I put a few fresh drops in my Mutation X dripper for a taste test and did not like the taste. It was almost like vaping a used gym sock. Have I used too much DDL, is it conflicting with the Vanilla Custard, or does it just need to steep a bit to round out the flavor?

DDL may be one of those concentrates that you do, or do not, like. I have no experience with FW's DDL; only TFA's.

With TFA's DDL; I find it is rather sensitive (or I am sensitive) to the overall flavor percentage. In other words; I will never use DDL at more that 4% of the total flavor percentage. If I am using a total flavor percentage of 10% I will only add 0.4%. If I am using a total of 20% flavoring; DDL will not exceed 0.8%.

Otherwise, like you, "gym socks" start creeping into my mix.

I do like DDL, and have even started replacing Bavarian Cream in certain recipes, where the addition of that extra caramel note adds that little extra "something." It is working best for me in the bigger, bolder, recipes I mix (like tobaccos and custards). I have yet to find success with lighter mixes like fruits and candies.

One day I would love to create an e-liquid that can replicate Cheesecake Factory's Dulce De Leche Caramel Cheesecake: a ton of rich creamy silky goodness with only a light pairing of caramel. All that cream actually seems to bring the butter of the caramel forward without also accentuating the browned/burned sugar. One day... ;)

I just took a peek at many of Bill's Magic Vapor's recipes that I've saved in a file. In 4 recipes where he uses TFA DDL, he's used 1-2%. In 1 recipe, which is for French Vanilla Coffee...he uses 5%. I've personally found it to be pretty potent, and use 1-2.5% at most. Everyone's taste varies though, so it's hard to predict what'll work for you.
