what is the cost difference, what are the prices of the raw materials vs. buying juice that is ready to vape? how difficult is to get it right? are there recipes that you can follow. how do you make sure that you are not making something that is dangerous?

i was just thinking about doing it, i think it might be cheaper but i am leary about it.

I'll list out some pros and cons idk DIY for you.
Pros- cheaper if you calculated the price by the ML
You can specifically alter your juice to your taste
If you need more juice you can make more not much shipping wait time

Cons- learning curve when starting out
LOTS AND LOTS of bottles (PG VG flavoring empty bottles etc)
If maintenance on more stuff to keep things sanitary
A open work area is recommended lol

If there's stuff I missed I'm sure others will pitch in

Diy'ing your own juice is pretty easy, diy'ing top quality juice is much more difficult. My estimate on costs for diy is around $2 for a 30 ml bottle, vs. around $15 for premade. Are there recipes?, yeah, but just like vendor produced juices you'll probably not like most of them anyway. If you start out with simple one flavor recipes it's not hard to come up with something vapeable. When you start mixing several flavors together it gets complicated and you'll have more failures. Vendors have done their homework (hopefully) and developed good mixes, and when you buy premixed juice you're paying for their work and expertise.

If you want to read some recipes try here, E-Liquid Recipes. As far as being dangerous, if you start out with nic liquid at 50 mg or less it isn't dangerous. Always use USP grade ingredients and you can be pretty sure they're safe. With flavorings, stick with those that aren't oil based.

For questions on DIY you might want to post in the DIY e-liquid forum. You'll get answers from the pros there.

i just spent $34 with myfreedomsmokes. i bought a 3ml syringe, a 10ml syringe, 2 15ml bottles, 15ml of tobacco flavoring, 60ml of 60mg nicotine, and 125 ml of PG. seems like $34 in supplies goes allot further then buying premixed juice, i can make allot of juice for $34. i downloaded the juice making program off of the internet at it seems like a good mix would be 41% of nicotine, 54% of PG, and 5% flavoring. the program breaks it down into ML and drops, im guessing i will be using the syringes to measure out the proper amounts. seems like i will be buying nicotine liquid and PG allot more often then the flavorings. seems like 15 ML of flavorings go a long way.

am i on the right track here?

seems like the juice will be allot cheaper this way and the biggest cost will become the hardware that i have to maintain and occasionally buy.

when i smoked i rolled my own cigarettes for cheaper and better quality now i think i will DYI my own juice. im always trying to find the cheaper way out.

Looking good so far. I would get quite a few more bottles, you can never have enough. And start small, 3mL batches are good, since you don't know if you're gonna like what you make or not.

I would recommend checking out VapingZone if you're looking for tobacco flavors. Their new super concentrated line gets great reviews.

For a beginning DIY-er, they make it a lot easier to measure the nic base and spills are not a problem when measuring.
I grabbed a handful for several of my bottes of nic and flavoring. (I hate having to take dropper tops off to measaure out flavoring. I really wish flaovring came in non dropper top bottles)

Just trying to be helpful.

I was thinking about DIY for a bit. As other posters said, the initial cost may cost a bit for bottles, bases, flavorings, etc. Fortunately there's a lot of people that DIY as well so you can pull recipes off of them. Here's why I never went full in: my favorite liquids I couldn't make/imitate myself. I'm a fan of liquid extracted from actual specific tobacco or natural flavorings. I can't stand tobacco absolute or any of the imitation flavorings. Because I don't know the first thing about extracting real flavors, I gave up DIY.

All over the place
I like this thread. Although I don't have anything considerable to add to the topic, I wanted to chime in with my:2c:

I truly do envy people that are able to diy, and REALLY admire and respect artisanal juice vendors. For me though, I have no intention or desire to delve into that process. I don't go through juice fast enough to warrant the endeavor, and I know that it would be too much of an undertaking to get it right. Luckily I have a few vendors that just do it for me. So, for now, they will be getting my money.

p.s. I cook virtually everything I can from scratch and maybe only eat out once every couple of weeks (if that), and harldy ever eat anything out of a box. So, when it comes down to it, I save my money in other areas in my life.

I kind of fell into DIY accidentally..tried sooo many juices, most with extra flavor, and they always fell short on flavor for me. So I ordered some flavorings to doctor up my vendor juices. Then I meandered over to the DIY thread. Long story short, I've been making my own concoctions for the last 3 months, and will probably never buy vendor juice again. It's really easy, tasty, and gratifying.
