E-Cig for my Grandmother

Hi All,

I own a cigar shop in central Texas and am somewhat (read: a little) familiar with e-cigarettes, although most of my distributors for tobacco products do not carry e-cigarettes (at least, not reputable looking ones). I'm interested in carrying them, but that's another story (maybe you can direct me to someone who might sell to my store for retail purposes...).

My grandmother, who is 77, has smoked cigarettes for over 60 years. She has been trying to quit for years -- and recently felt that she had "run out of options" with the traditional nicotine replacement products not working for her.

As she has pledged to give up cigarette smoking this year, I would like to help her and suggested that she get an e-cigarette.

Well, she's not terribly adept at the internet and whatnot, so I told her I would do the research and purchase her one. Boy, if only I knew what I was getting into!

The myriad of brands and suppliers makes it difficult to understand what is good to purchase. So, I found your site and have glanced through this forum, impressed at what I have found.

I need a recommendation on an e-cig for my grandmother.

1. The e-cigarette needs to be easy to set up and use
2. There needs to be a menthol flavor available (she smokes Salems, if there's anything quite like that out there)
3. It needs to look somewhat like a cigarette (OR at least be the same shape, not like that Janty stick or the box shaped ones)
4. Needs to produce realistic smoke (a decent amount)
5. Needs to be easy to charge, etc.

Additionally, because she smokes about a pack a day, and also because she's not adept at internet ordering, I'm going to need to buy enough cartridges to last for at least 3-6 months on this initial order. Not too too many though, because after all, she may not end up liking this.

Keep the price for the whole thing below $250, please.

Also, let me know if I'm going to need to stock up on a few extra atomizers or anything else that might break.

Thanks a lot!

Must know if she would mind pressing a button to activate the battery.

The e-cig world is divided between those who will press a button and those that refuse to do so.
And that latter group quite often includes those who eventually gets converted to the former group.

I mean, isn't there just a sensor in the ones that don't have a button?

I don't think she'd mind but it would probably be better to get one without a button.

Also, who to buy from?

And for the love of Pete, since you own a smoke shop PLEASE don't do what all the other smokeshop owners are doing and going for one of those models that the mass market, slick advertising, snake-oil salesman are pitching you.

If you want to sell this stuff and make people happy, get a GOOD piece of equipment to sell.
You may just find that you are the center of a revolution.

1836 - for an automatic battery, I am quite fond of my 901. I also have a 510 with a manual battery that I absolutely love and the button is very easy to push. As for suppliers if you want to buy in bulk or "wholesale" there is Ruyandirect.com bestecig.com; eastmall.net, a whold slew of them, but they come from overseas. There are a LOT of good US suppliers. A few of them are here in TX. Check the suppliers area, it's like a shopping mall. :)

I recommend a pink 901, auto battery. Larger carts that don't have to be filled so often. I really don't think she would take to pressing the manual switch. The auto does it for her. Short, simple, and easy to use for Grandma.

I have to agree. This may be one of those cases where the automatic battery makes total sense. You can still fill carts for her so she can just pop them in as needed. Blank carts are cheap and you can buy enough to fill up a weeks worth (or however often you can be there).

The auto battery should be OK if you are not dripping. You should be sure she is comfortable keeping the batteries charged. Whatever model you decide on, I urge you to have extra batteries and atomizers on hand, so if she does have some issues with equipment you have got some stuff on hand to keep her going.........

Apparently, the original poster...

I own a cigar shop in central Texas

But when I say smoke shop I am referring to people who own stores where they sell lots of cigarettes and cigars and various cigarette and cigar equipment, and some of them actually sell the big name crappy electronic cigarettes, although very few of them here in California from what I can tell.

In fact, many of them here don't seem to have ever heard of them.
But those that have them sell the crappier ones.

My cigar shop is just that: a cigar shop. We sell handmade, premium cigars and pipes and pipe tobacco. We do order Nat Sherman cigarettes for a few of our customers, but other than that, never have had anything to do with cigarettes.

In fact, I've never smoked a cigarette (my business partner does).

I'm interested in selling e-cigarettes which is why I mentioned that, I see a good potential for profit.

It is, however, my nature and the business's nature to only sell quality product -- we've routinely busted product off the shelves for being inconsistent (cigars) or faulty (pipes, lighters, etc).

Regarding my grandmother... what exactly is the 901 and how do you fill cartridges?

Thanks,

-J.F.
