Howdy from Texas! I'm a 26 year old mother of two and have been a smoker since I was 18. Strangely enough, I had no problem giving up smoking both times I become pregnant, but picked it back up shortly after giving birth. Since having my last child I have struggled with quitting and it's driving me crazy! I had tried an e-cig in the past, one of the disposables you can pick up from the gas station and was not impressed in the least, so I dismissed them all together.

Yesterday I came across an ad for one of the 501 style e-cig companies and started doing some research and came across this forum and some videos on youtube. I had no idea there were more options out there outside of those junk e-cigs! I am totally sold from the things I have read and seen!

That being said... I am very lost at where to start, where to buy from, what attys fit what batteries. A lot of the information I have found is in e-cig "lingo" so it makes it pretty confusing. I basically need someone to hold my hand through the buying process for my first e-cig lol. Any help or siggestions on where to find very simplfied information would be greatly appreciated! I can't wait to no longer smell like an ash tray!

Hello and welcome to the forum. There are multitudes of experienced vapers on this board who, I'm sure, will be along shortly to fill in the answers to any and all of your questions. I was sort of a slow starter in that I stayed with one particular vaping vendor for way too long so I will leave the advice to others. Again, welcome and feel free to ask any and all questions whenever you have them.

I made several on line mistakes when I started. Luckily a shop opened in my town & they educated me from the very basics & have been there with me evry since. 9 months without a cigarette & I will never go back to smoking. Nothing else (gum, patches, prescriptions) has ever worked.

What worked for my husband & myself...we both bought the e-go starter kits. They have everything that you need but the juice. The store we go to allows you try any flavor that you are interested in. The issue...old fashioned dripping (2 drops at a time onto the atomizer). Tough to do while driving. 2 drops = about a cig....they say. Some folks like cartomizers (fiber filled...add juice & re-use) I don't like the dry taste or the dry hit.

Now there are clearomizers....you fill the tank & it lasts most of the day! Trick is finding what works & experimenting. There is a learning curve. My hubby loves the Visions "stardust" clearomizer (6.50). He vapes wintergreen juice & they last about a month for him. They die in days for me. I use Visions 3 (10.00) so I can just change the wick (1.50).

Batteries are rechargeable and they last months & months. Ego kit come with 2 batteries & the charger.

See, that is what I'm nervous about. I don't want to dive in head first and end up ordering something that will be a disapointment and I have to go back to square one. As far as I know, I don't know of any local shops that sell vaping supplies. I know there are a few things I want and don't want for sure.

I want to keep the size as close to a cigarette as possible, I'm ok with a bit larger. I just don't think I need one of the set ups I have seen that look like the size of a sausage roll lol. I'm going to be using this thing at work, I don't want to draw too much attention to myself haha! I'm a girl so I like the idea of color options and LED tips that light up as you take a drag and blink when the battery is low, and I have seen some drip tips that are really pretty haha. I also like the idea of flavor options so I want something I can change out every now and then and not be confined to only prefilled cartridges with only tobacco and menthol options.

I'm more than likely making this seem way more complicated than it really is, I'm just a nervous nelly I guess.

Hi Mamacruz, I am so glad you found ECF! Welcome and congrats on starting a new journey. I have a few questions for you that will help me and the others help you make a great purchase that will give you what you need from your new set up. How much are you looking to spend on gear to get started (not including liquid)? What was it that you just didn't get from your little cig look alike? Does size of e cig matter to you? We can get you a great set up! No worries :)

I am thinking this will be the best thing for you. You can also order some extra vision clearomizers or even just some plain cartomizers. It is about the size of a sharpie and will let you turn the heat up and down to help you find your perfect vape. I think this is a pretty good price for this kit. It will be 10 times better that those little cig look alikes.

I do like that set up and thats about as big as I would be willing to go on size. I have a question though, I was looking on different sites at the clearomizers, when it says "ego-t" is this the same at the ego twist, just abbriviated? I just don't want to buy clearomizers that end up not fitting the battery.

Also as far as the disposable that I tried, I believe it was the Njoy. I didn't like that I had to pull really hard to get a decent drag from it. I felt like I was trying to get a golf ball out of a garden hose by the end of the day, my cheek actually felt sore.

You are in the middle of a hotbed of brick and mortar vape stores. Try this

Good option, go in to a place and you will be able to see the setups and try a few juices and see what you like. I really didnt "get" it till i was able to actually see whats available. You can probably walk out all set up pretty cheap too!
Thats a pretty updated list.

If you want something with a little less up front investment, try Smokeless Image. For less than $30, you can get an X2 650 mah battery and a 5-pack sampler of pre-filled cartomizers. Use the coupon code VOLTMAN and get %15 off. The X2 is a pass-through device, so it comes with a mini-usb charging cable that you can plug into your computer to re-charge it.

Pros: It's affordable, the company has a decent reputation and track record for customer service, and every item offered by that vendor is cross-compatible with each other as well as with many items not offered by SI.

Cons: It's an 808 device which limits your options as far as other juice delivery systems (tanks, cartomizers, clearomizers, ect). They're not planning on offering a Variable Voltage (VV) device, which probably wouldn't be important to you right away anyway, if ever.

Welcome to the forums Mamacruz13. The link down below is a good starter for you. At this site everything fits each other. No guessing.
I suggest getting a starter pack and get the sampler kit to find your flavor. If you like the kit, then I suggest getting another battery. One to use while the other is on charge.

You could also try Ego, they are very popular. Others on this forum will help you out with the Ego.

Add another vote for SI. I started with the standard starter kit and got an extra sample pack in addition to the sample pack that came with the kit. My wife loves the silver 78mm I got free from the faces of VOLT deal on the sub forum here so that put me up to 3 batts in the cost of this package. Again this is 808 threaded which limits your options later but I am still using an x2/x2 combo which I love. Of course I am waiting on a more advanced mod but will continue to use my volt stuff anytime I leave the house.

First let me welcome you to ECF. Second grats on wanting to switch to vaping. Now for the overwhelming wave of info on what you should get. Everyone's opinion will differ here, it's what makes this forum great. My first real ecig was an ego after all the silly little auto battery ones. The ego was great but I wanted more and still do(it becomes a hobby/fetish). I got a vv box mod and quickly decided higher voltage was the way to go. I bought some 5v mods and loved them. I then got a bolt because since I started vaping I wanted a silver bullet, but wasn't sure if 85 bucks was worth a tube with a battery. I enjoyed the bolt with different battery configurations, and then the kick came along and ruined my world, I wanted one so bad but like all vaping masterpieces this thing was elusive and always sold out. I finally got one and a silver bullet and I am a happy lil vaper. Basically, I just want to say save the hassle and trouble and buy the mod you really want but an ego twist is probably a great starting point. As for tanks cartos attys rebuildables and clearos just do the research they all have + and - I am stuck in a carto tank and occasional dripping. Sorry for the wall of text. Happy vaping and welcome to the family.

Howdy neighbor!!!! Congrats on finding the best way to quit smoking!! I haven't completely quit the stink sticks yet, but I've cut down from nearly 2 packs a day to about 5 or 6 a day. But like everyone says, don't think about the ones you smoke, think about all the ones you didn't smoke. :)

I always think it's funny when people see we are in Texas and because there are a LOT of stores in this state, that must mean we are close to them. Ha! Ha! Do you guys realize how big this state is? lol

Anyway......there are lots of great suggestions coming at you. Listen to the vets here. The only thing no one is going to be able to tell you is what flavor of juice you will like the best. That one is completely trial and error.

I have about 20-30 little sample bottles of juice that I really don't care for. Since we are neighbors, if you're interested, you can have them. Maybe even find a flavor you like without having to wait on the mail :)

BTW.....I'm a Mom too. Not a creeper. lol

Well Howdy right back, it's a small world in the e-cig community it seems. I'm used to seeing Houston people but not so close to home. I might take you up on that offer once I get my set up. I'm really torn between the ego Twist and the Volt's. I might go ahead and buy one now and ask for the other for Christmas.
