How long can I expect ecig Atomizers and Batteries to last before I have to purchase new ones?
Also, what is the average yearly cost of owing and using an e cig ?
Thanks

(I need a 10 foot pole for this).
OK. 1st off... atomizers... anywhere from a month to who knows.... 6 months. That's assuming you're over the learning curve. Also, higher voltages are harder on atomizers. LR's don't last as long (figure < month in many cases).
e-cigs... well, it depends on make/model. A small 808 or 510 will last a few months, but die fairly quickly since you have to recharge it a lot, and vaping is hard on the real small batteries. An eGo type unit... say 6 months or more. Of course, YMMV since using LR on eGo is a bit more stressful on the battery. Also, I have some mods with 14500 batteries, and those batteries are nearly a year old and going strong...<knock on wood> but I rotate 3 sets.
Does this help?
Remember... accidents, shorts, juice getting in em, charger failures, dropping in rain puddles, etc. all shorten the life so BACKUPS BACKUPS BACKUPS SPARES SPARES SPARES. Then when you go into your spare stash, you can order more and not get stuck.
Good luck!
P.S. You edited. Cheater! OK... average yearly cost .... I can't tell you, or even begin a guess, without knowing your juice vendor, your daily consumption, and your devices. Then maybe a ballpark.
I can tell you for me, but 1) I'm experienced and don't trash hardware and 2) I DIY all my own juice. So really, you'll have to compute based on your own research. It may be a bit of cash outlay at 1st, but can pay for itself, or at least break even for more smokers turned vapers. Again, that varies depending on cig prices and consumption.

ok ill bite on the yearly cost....lol
well if you never buy a mod and just stick with starter style e-cigs well be generouse and say you will need only 8 bats to last a year...at about 10$ a bat=80$, if you use attys and are awesome at upkeep well say you use on a month at 7$ and atty=84, now juice not for sure where u get it or how picky you are but lets be on the safe side and say 15$ for 30ml and that last you 10 days=roughly 500$ so 700 a year???
Thanks Attypops.
That Does Help. I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question (even with the 10 ft pole hahaha). I am new to this whole ecig thing so I am asking the dumb questions. I was thinking that the only recurring cost would be the Juice/ Cartridges. I have ordered an ego t and should be expecting it within the next few day's. So I'm guessing I'll need to get whole new "hardware" maybe every 90 day's or so? Anyway it's probably a lot cheaper than analogs (especially in NYC)
Again I appreciate your response.

It is definitely cheaper than analogs, especially if you can avoid the desire that most of us have to keep trying other devices. I would be quite surprised if you have to replace the eGo batteries in 90 days. I have eGo batts that are going on two years. Their in rotation with other devices, of course, but they've easily seen an average of 6 months to a year's worth of use. And that's with LR atties. Buying an extra kit or at least a spare battery or two is still a good idea, though.
Atomizers are a different story. Plan on getting a couple of weeks out of them and if they last a month or so you'll be even happier. I typically get a month or more out of an LR atty, but I have had them fail inside of a week, too. Generally after a month of use, the performance will diminish to a point that you'll want to replace them.
Your mileage may vary ... a lot.
On my 510 unit, I have been using and rotating the same 3 mega batteries for 8 months. On my 808 unit, I have been rotating the same three XL batteries for a similar time frame. All are manual units and none have experienced failure. At the same time, I have never run them to the point that they insist on being charged, etc. Also, I only vape about 1.5-2 ml of juice daily. On my 808 unit I use cartomizers exclusively. On the 510 unit I use both the regular and tank atomizers. I have two of each type of atomizer and have never had to replace one. But I keep my cartridges topped off and don't use juices with much gunk in them. I make my own juices and keep the flavoring components low.
So assume all of my stuff failed after 12 months.
1 mega PCC, 3 mega batteries, 4 atomizers, 10 regular carts and 10 tank carts. Total cost: $100 +/-
1 XL PCC, 3 XL batteries. Total cost: $73 +/-
There are expendable supplies. Cartomizers for the 808 units, blue foam (I use the blue foam mod) for the 510 cartridges and e-liquid.
Thank you for the
I go through 2 cartomizers a week at an average cost of $3 each. So 2*3*52 = $312
The cost of the blue foam is minuscule. Figure it at $10/year.
I make my own e-juice mostly. Every once in a while if someone has a sale I'll try theirs, but 90% of the e-liquid I use I mix myself. Getting the stuff for this initially can be a bit expensive -- I have both pg and vg based nicotine, pg, vg, and an assortment of flavorings from Perfumer's Apprentice, Blue Mist and Flavour Art. I suspect I've spent about $200 on all this stuff, but it's enough to last me maybe 3 years. So figure I spend $70/year on e-juice but also spend another $50 on trying out what other people have mixed up -- so $120.
So worst-case-scenario (assuming all equipment fails annually), my annual expense is $100+$73+$312+$10+$120 or $615/year
More realistically, just talking necessities, you can figure about half the equipment fails, I stop using disposable cartomizers and stop sampling other people's e-juice and the amount plummets to $50+$36+$10+$70 or $166/year Just for fun throw in a few miscellaneous supplies so you can round up to $200.
So you can quite feasibly vape for $200/year if you make your own juice and assume half your gear fails. So far, in 8 months, I have had zero equipment failures. But I baby my gear.
Your cost will likely end up being somewhere in between $200 and $800. I know that's a wide range. But maybe you'll have to try out a couple of different types of e-cig, maybe you'll want a "mod." Maybe you'll buy all your e-juice pre-made or just buy pre-filled cartomizers or whatnot.
I'd saw all in all I spend around $500/year; but your mileage will vary from mine. Hope this helps!
My two original ego batteries just died. They were 7 months old and I was using the dual coil cartos on them which probably killed them a bit sooner. I think that's pretty good.
That's less than a dime a day. I'll happily live with that for the vape and flavor the DCCs provide!![]()
Atomizer 1 minute to months
Batteries 150 to 200 recharges
Cartridges - near forever, you can wash/dry and restuff them
Cartomizers 1 week if kept damp, maybe less or more depending on the carto, your juice and how you vape
