Am a new member and researching all the e-cig info. Do they really help you either quit or cut down from a regular cigarette (or analog)? I am a two pack a day analoger...

All I can tell you is my personal experience. I smoked 2 packs a day for 40 years and stopped smoking with my first e-Cig. I tried everything to quit, and I'm thankful that e-Cigs worked after everything else failed. It wasn't even difficult. Scratch one nasty and dangerous habit.

I hate to be a kiljoy....but it seems alot of these replies are from people that have just started e-cigs.

I want to see the sucsess rate over 1 or more years of e-smoking...not these "oh oh I started last week and havn't smoked since". I was realy excited to start these e-cigs and got off to a really good start and didn't smoke much for a month...and since I have started the e-cigs have not even gone through 2 packs. I was also real happy to tell everyone how wonderfull these things are.

All that stopped after doing too many hours of research finding that NICOTINE IS NOT THE ONLY THING IN tobacco MANY OF US NEED.

I also wonder how many people are not telling the truth, this is the web aftre all right?

How many are just caught up in the euophoria and excitment of the idea of these little e-cig devices that they just don't want to admit or don't want to think that these will not work for them?

I just want to see a long standing result of the efectiveness of these e-cigs.

No, this isn't hype. All of these people don't work for e-Cig companies, so there is no reason to lie. If you love your cigarettes so much that you don't want to try and quit - DON'T. If you do want to quit, e-Cigs are a great way of doing it that works for a large percentage of people. Surely you don't think that the almost 84% of the people taking this poll are being paid or have any other reason to lie - do you? I stopped smoking for myself and my family, and I did it with e-Cigs. No hype - no exaggeration - just the facts. If you don't believe me and the many others who have posted here, I really don't care.

Coming up on one year this week. Quit for good 4 days after starting on my first ecig (the old analog style 510). This is after smoking analogs for 39 years (1.5 PAD) And just in case I am tempted, a good friend was just diagnosed with throat cancer. BTW our risk for throat cancer after being smokers does not equalize for 20+years. On a brighter note, I don't cough, I don't get complaints from family etc., I don' have to worry about falling asleep with one in my hand... but I sure do miss the smoker's huddle. And to be honest, if it was safe, guess what I would be doing. But, I am grateful I found a substitute and can get my fix with ecigs.

Regardless of safety issues, I prefer vaping over smoking. I've grown used to the nice flavors and smells, and there's nothing about cigarettes that I miss. However, there are a lot of greatly reduced or eliminated risks, so vaping is a win win. I certainly don't miss having to go out in the rain or rough weather to smoke, and I have vaped in a variety of indoor places with no problem at all. I've also shown up in some of the smoker's huddles with my e-Cig and shown them what it will do. It's fun to listen to some of the comments about the vapor and flavors. There's nearly always some questions about cost and where to get them. If I had some good starter kits at a reasonable price, I could have sold them quite easily. Instead, I've shared some well-known vendors and told them what to expect. Some of them had been exposed to e-Cigs from the rip-off merchants that sell high-priced junk, like the kiosks at the local mall.

I haven't had a single analog since I got my first PV 2 months ago. I don't even think about smoking them anymore...the closest thing to a miracle I've ever experienced in relation to smoking. Somehow it takes the actual *smoking* of cigarettes out of the association of the nicotine fix for me. I am having some issues with PG eliquid and until I resolve that issue, I have been chewing nicotine gum with much greater satisfaction than I ever did before my ecig transition. The mind and body are complex, nicotine is a complex drug, and addiction itself is even more complex and mysterious. I am chewing 2 pieces of 2mg Nicorette per day until my VG liquid arrives, and surprisingly satisfied with that!

I didn't want to quit.

I saw friends had taken up ecigs, and figured I'd try it.
For many moons was a Camel non filtered 2 pack a day smoker. (eek)

The day my ecig arrived I put down analogs and never looked back.
I attribute my success to:

The right hardware makes all the difference, and the supplier's patience with n00b questions
(Vicky @ Cignot you rock!) :D
The right strength and taste of ejuice
(Don's @ BWB - and a friends are some of the cleanest vape I've tasted)
A great support network - my friends who also vape...
(You guys know who you are - and I heart you) :D

Cig free since Nov 18th, 2010

I quit smoking for 5 years before starting with e cigarettes. I was really missing smoking and there was no way that I was going to go back to smoking after 5 years! I saw an ad, did a TON of research and have been very happy with all of my pv's including the dse601 epipe and my 510's. I am anxiously awaiting my first box mod to try out the whole variable voltage experience!

The first week or so was difficult, but I survived without going to an analog. Now, after 1 month when I smell an analog it's disgusting to me.

Every time before that I tried to quit smoking, I went back because I actually love to smoke. This is a direct replacement for me that tastes better and has noticeable improvements on my well being.

I thought a poll might give us some idea of the quitting success rate percentages. These numbers might be useful in our future.

I've seen several people say that they have completely quit smoking with e-cigs. I've seen others say that they still smoke analogs along with e-cigs, and a few that have said they use them to smoke in pubs and other places where analogs are banned.

If you've used them to just cut down, please add a note as to how much you've cut down.

I quit smoking in 3 days...as soon as I got a bigger battery.

Did it with a PigCig 650mAh, which I got after struggling for
two weeks on a standard. Soon I got a 900 PigCig just to have
a longer lasting battery.

That was 2.5 months ago...and now I'm waiting on my 1st Mod
which I picked out purely to enjoy my favorite flavor at 8-10 watts.

I've been vaping for more than five months now. I still have some analogs left and smoke three or four per day, mostly just to use them up -- I "invested" in them, so by gum, I'm going to smoke them!

Once they're gone, I anticipate no problems being a 100% vaper. I've forgotten to smoke the analogs on several occasions for a few days and didn't miss them at all.

I've been analog free for 22 days now. It took me a few months to get there by slowly weening myself off the analogs. If it weren't for discovering the box mod, I'd still be a smoker for sure. Being able to vape all day on one charged battery and a full 3ml bottle was the key, I got tired of filling carts, topping off cartos, charging batts all the time, all the screwing and unscrewing....

Life is simple with the mods.

Why are there only 2000 votes? Is it that 1) the non-quitters are ashamed or 2) think they will do better any time soon, and so postpone voting? And where did all the former forum members go? Is it true that most vapers go back to smoking after a while? I like vaping so much I can't imagine relapsing. I used to smoke a pipe as well as cigs, so the cleaning and tweaking aspect doesn't bother me at all, it's therapeutic. But my wife hasn't been able to quit, and she says most people she knows who tried ecigs went back to cigarettes. I sure wish we had some credible statistics.

Not sure if it's any help to you, but I guess my better half and I fall under the category of 'former forum member' (although obviously I'm still a member :D) and yes, three and a half years on, we're both still happily tobacco free :) ! The great thing is that is doesn't bother us at all to be around smokers as we like vaping so much better, no cravings for tobacco whatsoever !

As to my theory about why it seems easier for some to give up tobacco with E-cigs than for others; I believe it has a lot to do with the original addiction. In my case it was partly nicotine, but mostly the hand-to-mouth action. Both of these aspects are fully satisfied by vaping.

For some though I believe the brunt of the addiction may be the other chemicals that are added to tobacco specifically to keep people hooked. These are lacking in E-liquid and this may be why it is harder for some people to replace tobacco smoking by vaping ?

I can't really answer your question about the relatively low number of responses here compared to the number of members on this site, it surprises me as well...

Cheers,
Silver

PS: A lot of 'older' members can be found in the Veterans Forum, won't be long till you're one yourself ;) ...
