I mentioned this idea in a response in another thread and have been thinking about it all weekend. How hard would it be to make a website that had nothing but e-cig stories/testimonials good or bad? So when someone says "there's no scientific evidence that they even work" or something of that nature, we can post a link to it, for real world e-cig use.

I was thinking like to log on to put your experience down you had to fill in some blanks first. Age, quit date, how long you smoked, packs/day, etc. Some would be drop down boxes maybe for flavors and other things so it could keep a running percentage to answer specific questions like "adults don't like fruity flavors..." (well according to this pie chart 76% of people here like flavors other than tobacco... or something like that),

I think it would be something we need so we have a site to throw at people because right now we really don't have anything! I would attempt to do it but I have no clue about website building or anything like that. I think it would be a complete mess.

What are your thoughts? What are some things that need to be asked in the questionnaire other than the few questions I've stated?

While on the surface this seems like a good idea, pointing folks to it still wouldn't be a "scientific" response to the argument.

You can submit testimonials at these two sites. I'm not sure if there is a concentrated EU testimonial site like these two in the US.

Submit a Testimonial

E-cigarettes and other Tobacco Harm Reduction strategies: a collection of success stories - 0%

It's been so long since I submitted my story to the CASAA one, I'd completely forgotten about it!
Thanks for the other link, I hadn't seen that one. I will fill it out later when I get to my desktop computer.

I completely agree with you, but I think SOMETHING is better than NOTHING, when it comes to any kind of study. I think real world user experience would trump any kind of scientific study as to whether or not they work as an alternative. Whenever I read the comments section of an anti-ecig article they're all the same. "...I can tell you they do work... Here's my story...". I think a link to a site with 1000+ stories would be more beneficial. The link below to the AVA would do nicely I think.

But doesn't science use subjects to get facts? In a sense, we are ALL guinea pigs in the vaping world. The long term studies will be us years down the road. If we can document now what we are feeling, it will be an added layer to what happens down that road. The more we have, hopefully the better it will be for us. Any and all, good and bad, should get documented.

You may argue that it is not controlled, but it is not a bad idea.

Maybe a Pinterest page, where people can create a graphic with text and photos, get creative with it and have fun?

I think it is a GREAT idea, but would somehow need checks and balances. For starters, what happens if BT or BP decides to try and pollute the results? What about the reverse, say an e-cig evangelist that wants to ensure that the results are in their favor? I don't see any way to ensure that this remains unadulterated data, at least not enough to be useful in any *real* argument (either for or against e-cig benefits). Hell, we can barely get electronic voting correct, and that is done in a polling place with staff on hand to ensure that you only vote once!

Anyway, just my :2c: on the topic ... HTH
