I just wanted to share this as a warning...

My coworker noticed his e-cigar (from e-cig.com) getting really warm in his pocket. REALLY warm. He pulled it out and it seemed either the battery or the e-cigar was suffering from a meltdown. He tried to unscrew the thing and get the battery out but it was way too hot to hold and he had to toss the thing.

So... This is just a heads-up that these things (at least the cheapo e-cig ones) can potentially be a fire issue. Think twice before you leave them overnight with the battery in them.

i doubt its just cheap e-cigs ones it can happen to.. the pressure switches used and lithium battery technology aint exactly risk free.. the cigar and pipe types use none protected cells in all of them.. i am pretty certain the one used in the kissbox usb lead is also a none protected cell..

all rechargeable battery devices have a fire risk thow.. the batteries if shorted out can pass lots of current.. enough to melt the insulation off wires.. unlike alkaline batteries which cant..

often there is no fuse to stop this like there is with a mains device..

to take this further.. lithium battery technology could be considered inherently "unsafe".. its a fire hazard period.. we use it because there isnt anything else to do the job.. whole multi million dollar industries are based on it.. from cell phones to portable computers..

it power to weight factor which equates with size is unequaled.. but its safety factor is poor.. start to worry when some coming lithium battery powered cars go bang.. sony already have had major laptop fire problems.. he he he

charge outside in a fire proof box isnt so far out.. its the advice given on the website i ordered my pipe type e-cig batteries from..

ignorance is bliss.. or so they say..
