I found some interesting articles earlier:

Recommendation for Long-Term Nicotine-Replacement Therapy May Be on the Way - WSJ.com
Long-Term NRT Use Potentially Acceptable | News | ActionToQuit ? Advancing Tobacco Control Policy

And also this one:

Long-term Nicorette gum users losing hair and teeth

(emphasis added)

It's a serious double standard when anecdotal evidence is acceptable on one hand (with only 120 reports), but said to be invalid when the same analysis is applied to electronic cigarette user surveys.

I'd like to know what other ingredients are in that gum, particularly the sweetener.

Something I never brought up over at the QSMB: I've noticed a few people saying they use artificial sweetners or drink diet soda. Aspartame is a proven neurotoxin, highly addictive and is approved by the FDA. First, why aren't they telling people to quit using it since it's far more addictive than nicotine? Second, knowing the FDA has approved this poison for human consumption, why would we ever trust ANYTHING the FDA says?

I for one am GLAD the FDA doesn't have it's hands in the PV industry yet. I trust the folks at KBV to mix me up some good, safe liquid more than I trust the FDA to tell them how they HAVE to do it and what they HAVE to add to it.

Nope, still not able to. My account is active, but any post I make gets the "needs to be approved" screen, and nothing appears in the "View your posts" list. I have 5 or 6 "in the queue".

I haven't gotten a reply to my PM yet. I sent one to "administration".

The funny thing is, there are posts over there from people who have joined since Monday and their posts are going through. I am starting to suspect that Randy and I have been blacklisted. I think Randy said some of his posts could be considered inflammatory, but I honestly don't think any of mine were. Although, as I said, some were made in some of the more volotile threads in response to some of the nastier posts. I have other email addresses I could use to register with again, but honestly, if the posts I made are enough to get me banned then I'm thinking that may be a place I don't need to hang out at. I'm the kind of person who says what's on my mind. I try never to be abrasive and abusive, but I don't like to censor myself just to get along with the crowd.

Well that shouldn't be a problem. Most of us are like that. At least in this crowd LOL

You both may have just gotten lost in the shuffle :)

That's what I wonder.

The more I read, the less I trust the FDA. Stumbled across this last night in random web surfing:

So humour me for a moment please. This just came to me while I was reading the post about blood tests and lower levels of nicotine.

I am in Canada and maybe I should ask this in a Canadian forum, but all of you smoked before right? Do most of you use nicotine? My understanding is that you have moved from cancer causing cigarettes (and the bazillion other chemicals) to PV's to reduce the harm.

It is also my understanding that in Canada - you cannot buy stuff (???) with nicotine in it. So I wonder if all the people in Canada using e-cigs are using them for an alternate reason and if they are using it as an alternative to cigarettes, then why are they not jonesing for nicotine?

I am just really curious now. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow....I am going to ask him his opinion on the electronic cigarette.

Thanks :)

The stuff (???) would be e-liquid or e-juice

Why are they not Jonesing for nicotine? excellent question

Please let us know what your Doctor advises.

Thanks for your post. It's ok you posted this here. I bet there are even a few Canadians in here. For some reason I will never understand this area seems to be a little popular.

I tried nicotine gum (numerous times), and even with the highest nicotine, I still wanted to smoke.
I tried nicotine patches (numerous times), and even with the highest nicotine, I still wanted to smoke.

I now use an electronic cigarette, and even with substantially lowered nicotine, I have absolutely no desire to smoke.

Take that, heuristics!

I would really be interested in seeing some studies done on nicotine's effects outside of tobacco.

I am doing one. Not very scientific. You are actually doing one if you think about it. See my thread at QSMB

When I started using e-cigarettes less than 3 months ago, I was a 1/2 PAD American Spirit full flavor smoker. I was able to drop from 24mg down to 6mg in about a month and have had no cravings whatsoever as a result. I believe that nicotine by itself is about as addictive as caffeine, with some exceptions depending on the individual.

I think so

I agree with all of you. I truly believe that my "addiction" to smoking has more to do with the actions and the rituals versus the nicotine.

I'm starting to wonder if mine isn't also. Like I said I love to fiddle with the hardware and all.

But but but ... we must trust the FDA ... if they don't have OUR best interest at heart then who's?

Does the PV just give us the courage to stand up to cigarettes?

The courage to say "I will not be a slave to big tobacco and their nasty chemicals anymore".

I'm beginning to see how it might. A stop smoking method that actually seems to work can give a person lots of courage.

Take THAT you nasty cigarettes.

Well I can say I've had zip fear of falling off the wagon since hour 2.

ETA: This includes last night and this morning when I may as well have gone and sucked on a straw for all the more hit I was getting...lmao

I sure hope your eGo comes quickly, Shannon. If you were closer I would let you borrow one of mine!

I'll assume that's a rhetorical question! :)

It's less a matter of courage, and more one of disdain... "Big Tobacco, we are no longer amused... you may go... NOW!"

It's always good to have a local option available in case of emergency :D

I have a shop within a half hour of here that sells 510 pre filled cartos in a few flavors and their prices are actually really good too. They mostly have 18/24mg but I can deal with that until my 6mg comes in the mail if I need to. They even have $13 auto batteries available if all 6 of my eGo batts were to somehow simultaneously fail on me!
