The numbers are thread patterns. To be safe, stick with the 510 or maybe the 808 if you like the little cig style ecigs.
If you bought 3 starter kits, you probably have little cigarette looking batteries. 901s are not as common as the others and you might have a hard time getting cartomizers for them.

I hate to tell you this, but you're going to find out sooner or later and you might as well get it over with. If you smoked more than about a 1/4-1/2 pack a day, you're going to get sick of changing batteries all the time. You're going to get tired of having to replace batteries. Pretty soon, it's not going to matter to you that your ecig looks like a cigarette. Read around here some. Every day it's the same story. We've all been through it except for those who did enough research first and got a decent kit right from the start.

I suggest not throwing good money after bad. Get a simple starter kit with a decent sized battery and a 510 connection. You can get a kGo or an e-Power at Sweetvapes.com for about $41 and you won't have to mess around with all those poor performing ecigs ever again. The problems you are having are not anything to do with the thread patterns. You just have 2 junky and one possibly decent ecig. Unless it's a good model though, you will never get the performance out of it that you are looking for. No matter what, a little battery (like under 400mah) can never perform like a bigger battery, no matter what thread pattern it has or what you stick onto the end of it.

I've read about the battery models 510 , 901..etc . How can I tell which is which ? I'm still a newbie , bought 3 starter kits , some works great others suck (hardly any vapor when drag on it) but don't know what type of batteries they are.
Thanks for any inputs
If you can take some pics of them and post them here. The vets should be able to tell you which is which, and then at least when you hear talk of 510,901,etc you will have a reference. Welcome and happy vaping:)

I agree with sailorman. 510, 801, 901, 808 are just atomizer/cartomizer size. You can use any atty/carto with any battery. Just remember:

Rule of Thumb: in general, the more it looks like the real thing, the worse the performance.

Look for a battery in the 3.7 volt, 5 volt or variable volt size that has a mAh rating of 1000+. You won't find anything like that in the mini (looks like the real thing) size PV.

As a beginner, I would suggest the E-Power 510. Kgo 510 or Riva 510. These are all better than the eGo which is only 3.4 volts.

Went to Sweetvapes.com , did not see the KGo or e-Power you recommended ?

I have a Lavatube, an EGO and a Volt kit with the longer, manual sealed batteries. I keep the Lavatube in it's case in my toolbox while I am at work. I hit it when I am taking a break sometimes and when the shop is not busy. Mostly, I keep one of the Volt e-cigs in my top pocket and one typically lasts me all day. I took a pocket clip from an ink pen and made it fit the Volt.

I have found that the Volt doesn't like cartomizers that ohm out over 2.6 ohms with regards to enough vapor for me personally. I will go thru the 5 packs of cartos and ohm each one for that personal, optimum ohm range. It looks no more out of place in my pocket than an ink pen would. Current favorite juice from them is their "Desert Joe". I was up to nearly 3 packs/day before I started vaping. Even sitting here at the computer with other mods in reach, I still find myself hitting the Volt for a change of pace.

When I decided to quit smoking, I started on the patch. I was on it for a week and really missed smoking. When I discovered the e-cigs, I was pretty happy that I didn't have to give up the act of smoking, regardless if it was not technically smoking. For this reason, I still find use for the Volt for it being a really good introduction going from nothing, to it. When I am fishing, I can reach into my top pocket for a vape between casts.

Comparatively, the Volt seems like it shouldn't put out the vapor that it does after holding a larger mod for awhile, but once I get that satisfying throat hit, regardless of the size of the cloud, I am reluctant to dismiss it or to not use it for all it's worth. Will I get another? Most likely, just for the times I have mentioned above. My friend dropped his analogs and lighter overboard here awhile back. It was nice to have a fresh, spare 808 in the tackle bag and he was digging it as well as opposed to doing without for the rest of the day.

I have found vaping to be a lot like eating. Sometimes all you need or have time for (think of all the cigs I have thrown with only 2-3 drags off it) is a snack. Other times only a full course will do. The 808 is my bag of chips, the Lavatube, steak and potatoes.

I will recommend looking into the kgo or Riva models of 510 batteries. They're larger than the batteries that come with your present starter kits (which MIGHT be 510s, but I'm not really sure), and will hold a charge far, far longer. I also strongly recommend picking up blank cartomizers or clearomizers for them and some juice of your own preference, because if you're still going off the prefilled ones that came with your starters, you could have a LOT of better tasting alternatives.

kgo/Riva are about the size of a pen (roughly a Sharpie marker, if that helps gauge size). I find that for portability, they're great, and they hold a charge far, far better than the cig-size batteries would, plus you can get a number of interesting cartomizer tanks that'll hold your juice and keep your carto topped off while on the go.

If you don't mind going larger still, you might find interest in the Lavatube-type mods, which have a diameter that's loosely a quarter in size and typically use more common battery types. You can also change your voltage on the Lavatube-types, which gives you a variety of options in terms of warmth of vapor and throat hit.

Hmmm... Looks like thesmokingvapor one is a 510. I can't tell what the blue one is. I'm only familiar enough with an 808 and a 510 to identify them by pics. Not sure about all the other 901, 501, 40..whatevers. Sometimes these things are proprietary. They'll look like a standard thread pattern, but if you try to use one you find out that it's a tiny bit different and you have to buy the cartomizers from the company that sold the e-cig. Generally, it's best to stick to 510 threads in a PV. You can get adapters for 510 to 808 or 901 or even the skirted 510 cartos made just for eGos. I have 808 clearomizers I use with an adapter on my 510s and I've used 808 cartos because I found them really cheap and they aren't bad. But there is just a whole lot more stuff made for a 510 than any other thread pattern.

If you look at the two Pvs in the link I posted, you'll see they are both 510s.
The main difference between the kGo and the e-Power is that the e-Power uses non-proprietary lithium batteries whereas the kGo is a sealed battery unit. All the eGo types (kGo, Riva, eGo, Firefly) are basically big batteries like your e-cigs, but bigger. They eventually wear out and need to be replaced, so they are disposable. With the e-Power, you just change the battery and when a battery wears out, you buy a new one for $5 instead of a whole PV for $20. Also, you can get a replacement switch assembly for the e-Power. It comes in a couple sizes. The large 18650 size can last you a couple days between charges. The smaller 146?? size will last the best part of a day and is a lot more compact.

My recommendation is to get the e-Power Carto kit. You get 5 cartomizers, a charger and a couple batteries. Pick up an extra pack of cartomizers and an atomizer or two so you can test juice flavors before you fill up a carto with something you don't like. Also get a couple drip tips (about $2 ea.). You can use them on the end of the carto and on the atty when you're testing flavors.

Howdy all,

Another noob here, first post. After reviewing some different posts and threads I seem to have gone overboard for my PV. But in keeping with my experienced group of vapers here on my overseas post, the guys all recommended to go straight to the Provari. So in my normal over the top approach to things I bought the PV and a bunch of e-liquids, tanks, cartos and spare items. Since my order, a friend has allowed me to borrow his older PV and charger along with samples of e-liquid.

While I am enjoying being able to vape at my desk I still enjoy going for a smoke once in awhile. But I'm already getting kinda tired of constantly keeping a battery on the charger and dripping quite often. Actually keeping a battery charging isn't that big of a hastle but I'll be glad when my PV arrives along with the three 18650 batteries. Wish I would have bought a 4th battery but that can be taken care of later on. Always seems to be a learning curve to everything so that's to be expected.

So while I'm content from a hardware perspective, I'm always on the prowl watching e-liquid reviews and reading different forums. Not sure what the longterm outcome will be but I hope to completely kick the habit and just enjoy a good vape now and then.

I bought the blue battery from smoke51.com , out of the 4 batteries I have , I like this one best because I get more vapor . I'm assuming this one is 510 model as well because I'm using it with the cartomizer that I bought from smokingvapor.com

You won't be sorry you bought a Provari. I wish I would have picked up mine first.

That would be bad advice in my opinion. A person is better off learning on a "so what if I bust the damn thing" model.
Replacement "xGo" batteries can be found all over the place for less than 20 bucks, a carto costs around a buck and a half. Spending $200+ before you even know if you will like vaping doesn't make any sense at all.
In the end everyone will end up with their very own favorite, mine is "more than one". I don't care what mod someone else says is best, all by itself it would never satisfy my needs. Same reason that I smoked pipes and cigars as well as cigarettes.
