I was playing in the pit for an opera and they were using a fog machine... The fog looks just like what comes out of our e-cigs. This got me interested in what was in the liquid for the fog machine. Guess what? It's PG.

So that got me thinking. Fog machines don't have wicks but they pass the liquid through heat exchanger and heats the liquid to a vapor. The vapor is pushed out through a tiny tube, then a fan blows the vapor out.

Doesn't this sound like the next generation of PVs? If someone can miniaturize this process it would be awesome. I'm not an engineer but I'm starting to wish I was.

I used to work in the music industry and used many "smoke machines" over the years. The mixture is typically 3 parts PG to 1 part distilled water, which as you said is passed through a heating element. That element does get mighty hot, but yes if it could be miniaturized it may be far more reliable than the current atty system. You never know what may be just around the corner I guess.

Isn't that what the atomizer is doing?

Perhaps, but it seems like fog machines are a lot less high maintenance than an e-cig.

If its like my propane fogger the liquid never touches the coil, the actual tube the liquid passes through is heated. It's definitely possible but i think it would need higher voltages.

This sounds good.
