Insurance companies are drawing a false equivalency between smoking and vaping because they cannot be bothered to sort out who is vaping and who is smoking. Hence everyone with nicotine in their blood is a smoker as far as they're concerned.

I tell my insurance company that I am not a tobacco user because I am not. If I failed a nic test and was denied coverage, I would sue.

^^good luck with that, they'll just charge you more for your health coverage, for employment they sure can deny you, most of the hospitals that I've worked at now have a screening in addition to the standard "do you smoke" (tobacco product's use) and are revising forms to include "nicotine replacement therapy products"
The test will detect all forms of tobacco, including nicotine replacement therapy products
