E-Cigarette Users Battle Smoking Ban - News Story - WSB Atlanta

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- A proposed smoking ban in DeKalb County plan is finding opposition from an unlikely group -- some non-smokers.

A growing number of people have begun using electronic cigarettes as a way to kick the tobacco smoking habit. E-Cigarettes use a battery to heat up a nicotine-laced liquid. Users inhale the vapor, and exhale a water vapor that they claim is harmless to the environment and other people nearby.

Greg Hester first tried e-cigarettes two years ago, his last effort to kick a 21-year smoking habit.

. . .

Greg is CASAA's regional rep for the Atlanta area, and he does an excellent job in this interview.

Nice interview with Greg! I loved this statement:
But as Hester puffed his e-cigarette in a local park Thursday, he said he's not worried at all about any health risks.

"People ask me that and my answer to that is, ‘as opposed to cigarettes?’ Because I would still be smoking if it weren't for these," he said.

Thanks everyone! Considering that was my first ever recorded interview (for a major news station in the area, no less), I think it went well. Of course, before it occurred, I would have considered it having gone well if I just didn't pass out or fall down. ;)

It's kind of weird to see a 40-minute interview I did condensed down to about 45 seconds of airtime. And there are some points I made that I wish could have been included, especially in refuting the claims of the health officials. But I understand how news editing goes. And I thought it was a very balanced article. Kudos to the reporter. He was very accommodating and easy to talk to.

Welcome to the world of the sound bite. It could have been much worse- your 45 seconds out of 45 minutes followed by 5 minutes of "experts" from the ?non-profit?"health" associations and health department personnel talking about 2 year old FDA law suit spin and "we just don't knows".
