Health Canada expects to complete its review of e-cigarettes by March of this year. Officials say they have the authority to ask retailers to stop selling any e-cigarettes that claim to be a smoking-cessation aid without having a drug identification number (DIN).

Doesn't say they are able to do squat if their not. Does anyone know of any Canadian sellers that are marketing them as cessation devices?

edit: had a look at the ten Canadian suppliers I know of. 1 makes cessation claims. the others all toe the line.

I feel pretty comfortable that, while they may have discussions, Canada will not place any restrictions on e-smoking. Canada tends to toe the line and follow the lead of the US when it comes to health and drug issues (usually lags by quite a bit).

The article itself was quite shallow and poorly researched. Par for the course for any article from CTV.

Hey, I was going to start a thread about this article, but didn't know if I should.

I am so tired of researchers and experts knowing what is best for me, trying to save from myself, and the government helping themselves at my expense. At one point in the article it states that the nicotine gum is 2 to 3 times more effective at helping a smoker quit. Damn it, I do not want to quit. I enjoy smoking. I realize that there are many people who would like to kick the habit, just walk away unscathed. Nothing wrong with that, I wish them luck. I'll repeat myself though, I don't want to quit. Unfortunately I've smoked around my son his whole life as my father smoked around me. Sorry, but that's the way it is. I know that secondhand smoke is a problem, but every damn article has to throw that in our faces.
Being an American I know that our government in its biased and omnipotent way is sniffing around the E cigarette device. It won't be long before they step up and issue some kind of Decree for us to follow. They don't have the
manpower or money to inspect or fix our roads and bridges, schools or the myriad of other messes we have, but they will find the resources to screw around with us evil smokers. Jeez, sound like a conspiracy nut, dont I?
I repeat again, I want to smoke, I like to smoke, and if E smoking is a future for me, so be it.

I just hope they don't restrict the purchase of e-cigs and juice over the Net like they have done with tobacco products. I fear that it's only a matter of time, though, especially if more people start switching from analogs. One of the arguments will be for the protection of underage people from buying them online, because I can just imagine how "cool" these things will be once teens find out about them.

If the government bans e-cigs, then they will in turn create a Black Market for e-cigs. I don't want my government to turn me into a criminal, but if they do, I will embrace my role in it. I will create the Black Market for E-Cigs myself if I have to, because I will not go back to tobacco!!!
