Well, this is a sad news but we knew it was going to happen. Since the 1st of July we are under a heavy attack by the National Institute of Cancerology. The worst part of that is that the Institute is a government entity, so they are really dangerous. They are saying that e-cigs are bad for your health and that they are Illegal in Colombia.

Today, the mayor newspaper posted the news, if any of you talk and write in spanish please follow the link and post your opinion.

Here is the news in english (Thank you mama):

According to studies, they contain nicotine and cancerigenic.

The National Institute of Cancerología left to the passage to the promoters the calls electronic cigarettes to them in the country, when warning that not only they do not help to leave the tobacco, but contain dangerous substances for the health. These stainless steel cigarettes, that work with reloadable lithium batteries, contain a camera that lodges liquid nicotine cartridges in different concentrations. These devices do not produce smoke, but a hot vapor that the smoker inhales and is absorbed in the lungs. " This one contains cancerous nicotine and toxics like the nitrosaminas. The single nicotine produces respiratory diseases, cerebrovascular neoplasias and problems cardiovascular and, that can cause the death of users" , it assured the Institute. In agreement with Carlos Vicente Road, director of the Institute, is preoccupation by the increasing publicity that the manufacturers and distributors of these cigarettes are doing in Colombia. " Some usually describe them like a aid for the people who want to stop smoking; others have gotten to suggest, even, that the World-wide Organization of the Health (the WHO) considers a treatment legitimate of substitution of the nicotine, but to the own she has denied it organization. There is no scientific evidence on the security of his use or its effectiveness like treatment antitabaco" , it assured Road. After analyzing 19 cartridges of two of the electronic cigarette marks of greater sale in the world, the Food Administration and Medicines (FDA, by its abbreviations in English), from the United States, it reached the same conclusion that the WHO. Its study determined that these devices have cancerous perceivable toxic levels and chemical. Road indicated, finally, that the import, distribution, commercialization and sale of these cigarettes, is prohibited by Law 1335 of the 2009, most well-known one like Law Antitabaco. On the other hand, the drug dealers of these cigarettes in Colombia showed that their products " they have been put under studies and analysis of laboratory that demonstrate that the produced steam does not contain any cancerous element nor substances in toxic levels". They show that these devices do not promote the product to stop smoking but to reduce the consumption and that the debate on its use has allowed its commercialization in EE.UU., Europe and Japan.

Can you translate this into Spanish and post it?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) did not announce the quantity of Tobacco-Specific Nitrosamine (TSNA) "carcinogins" found in the cartridges. The liquid in a 16 mg. cartridge contains at most 8 nanograms per gram of TSNAs, which is no higher than the quantity in a medicinal nicotine patch.

More importantly, the FDA did not find any cancer-causing or toxic substances in the vapor. Health New Zealand has determined that the e-cigarette vapor is "harmless, inhaled or exhaled."

FDA's announcement was made for the purpose of discrediting products of the two companies that in March 2009 filed a lawsuit in U.S. federal court against the agency. Judge Richard J. Leon granted an injunction against the FDA in January 2010. Judge Leon said, "FDA cites no evidence that those electronic cigarettes have endangered anyone."

Judge Leon advised the FDA to regulate the products under the new Tobacco Act as recreational tobacco products. Because the products are not intended to treat nicotine addiction, they are not a "smoking cessation" product. The products are intended as an alternative to smoking traditional tobacco cigarettes. World wide, at least a million smokers have switched to using an electronic cigarette. Over 90% of product users report that their health has improved. They attribute these health improvements to the fact that they no longer inhale tobacco smoke.

I used a free on-line translator. English into Latin American Spanish. Somebody might want to check this:

------------------------------------------------.

It reads about as good as the Spanish to English translation posted by the OP. Unfortunately, I can't do much better.

I am not surprised, though. Back in the early '90's, I lived/worked in Cartagena and San Andres, Columbia. Back then (maybe now, also) the official Government was always quick to dance to whatever tune the US Govt. played.

Last year's FDA study seems to have precipitated alot of international action ...
