I had something called a Dell 'PDA'---I don't remember the model number. This was in 2005. It supposedly did a lot, like playing mp3s, browsing the web, etc. I did a lot of online research before I bought it, and threre was a lot of advice (do this, do that, get this update, ignore the manual here, do this instead). At the end of the day, I couldn't get the Dell PDA to work right. I spent $700 and gave up on it after a month. Dell ultimately dropped it (another month later). Then, in 2009, I bought an iPhone. I pressed 'on', and it worked. I didn't think about it. It just worked.

e-cigs are like Dell. The technology is not there. I pulled out the foil...did I pull out the whole cartridge? I don't know. No smoke, ok, keep trying. No smoke. Try a real cigarette. OK. Good. The e-cig must have worked, because nicotine poisoning. But it didn't give me smoke. Is it working? Who knows. Screw it in to the base tighter. No. Yes. No. Blue light. No, red light. Or, no. Which light? Smoke anoter cigarette. Try the e-cig. Disgusting taste in mouth. Read forum. Spend a lot of effort trying to get it right. No right. Try again. Read the manual again. Right the forum again. It will work, eventually. Who knows. I quit.

e-cigs are not like the iPhone. They require a lot of reading and homework to use. Maybe I am a retared. The 'atomizers' come with a fake cartridge on top. In the manual? No. Am I getting any 'smoke'? No, but sometimes. Fulfuiling? No. Disguising liquid in mouth? Yes. Follow directions? Will try. Need PhD? Yes. Work out of box? No. Do I want a real cigarette? HELL YES.

Don't give up, Bronty!

I know it's overwhelming, and I am still trying to figure things out.

Last weekend I finally thought: I am just going to order something most people here agree on, so I ordered a Joye 510 starter kit. I got mine from Innovapor.com and they have instructional videos on their site which helped IMMENSELY when trying to assemble and figure out what the heck things in the kit were & where they went.

I got my kit yesterday and started vaping. I'd also ordered a sample kit from another place (AmericanELiquidStore.com) in anticipation of wanting variety. I think I've already found a flavor combo that truly satisfies.

I am only 24 1/2 hours into this, Bronty, and I am glad.

I feel your pain, but I also don't want you to give up.

My friend who is also new to vaping and I were talking yesterday about how learning this is like learning to drive a stick-shift car as a first-time driver: at first it seems overwhelming to have to put in the clutch, shift, turn the steering wheel, turn on your blinkers, etc. After driving for a little bit, it becomes second nature.

Hang in there; I'm glad I did, and want to learn more, because there is no doubt it's better than smoking!

Thanks, I really do appreciate your response.

I have Modern Vapor e-cig. I called their helpline (twice), and I believe I was connected to the owner, Tony. He was super nice. That said, it's still like, WTF. You have to screw in the battery just right or it doesn't work. Or, you can't screw it in, because there's no room for normal sized fingers. Or, one slot will take the atomizer (without anything else on the atomizer), but you can't get it out without digging it out with a pencil.

How many videos do I need to do just to smoke a cigarette? Somebody needs to make an everyman version, just like the iPhone. Turn it on and it works, It's obvious. You don't need tools, or videos, or a syringe or paperclips. You don't need to worry about foil and the cartridge. Or, is the foil the cartridge? Or both? Is it charged? Or not? Should I wait?

You see what I mean... It is very, very frustrating.

Cheers Brit in rebel country. I'll shut up, and try again tomorrow. :) I have a Modern Vapor e-cig. A fresh perspective tomorrow will help. Shall check out the sticky post.

You don't really need a PHD lol - what kind of PV do you have? Have a look at the sticky post by Daboom and look at the pictures there - which one is yours? (Or maybe you already know)
Maybe we can help with any issues if we start with what make it is :)

no your not a ...... cause even they can use a pv

Sorry I'm frustrated. If you want to trade insults, I'll pass.

Do I genuinely think that e-cigs should ultimately be more 'user friendly'? Yes. Like the iPhone.

It is unfortunate that it will take me some time to get around to sitting through the instructional videos. I just want to screw in an atomizer and puff away. It SHOULD be that easy.

do you even here a hiss or a bubbling noise?? if the light isn't going on that could just be a faulty connection. but with no bubble or hiss your ecig might not even be getting any power to the atomizer. if ya here a bubbling you might have flooded the atomizer. you should have gotten 2 batteries try the other battery. if not it might be a got a doa atomizer.

Ah... helpful suggestion. No hiss or bubbling... The light is going on, but no smoke at all. I'll try the the other atomizer.

This forum goes quick!

Anyway, tried the other atomizer. I get smoke, but only sometimes. Should I try a new cart? I tried the "turn 360" trick but the foil didn't come off. I used a toothpick, and pulled out something with foil but also that looked like a small pipe cleaner. Maybe I killed the cartridge?

We'll get there. Sorry for being an impatient ...., but I really appreciate the help.

I don't think I've criticized anyone personally, so I'm not sure what I've done to deserve this.

In the first stage of a launch vehicle, the exit pressure of the exhaust is equal to the sea level atmospheric pressure 101.325 kPa (14.7 psia) for optimum expansion. As the altitude of the rocket increases along its trajectory, the surrounding atmospheric pressure decreases and the thrust increases because of the increase in pressure thrust. However, at the higher altitude the thrust is less than it would be for optimum expansion at that altitude. The exhaust pressure is then greater than the external pressure and the nozzle is said to be underexpanded. The gas expansion continues downstream and manifests itself by creating diamond-shaped shock waves that can often be observed in the exhaust plume.

I get riled up too easily. With the model I've got, should I get quite a bit of vapor? I know that it won't get as much as a 510, but I don't have anything to compare to----just my normal (analogue) cigarette.

If I'm getting all the vapor I'm ever going to get from this Modern Vapor unit, I probably want something much stronger. Out of one drag, I get practically nothing. I don't feel like I'm inhaling anything.

Im sure they are just playing iwth your 'need a phd' remark - don't take it personally - Im sure its not intended that way.
Sometimes new things take time to get past the 'wtf' stage - took me 10 mins to work out how to get the end cap they ship with it off my 510 to attach the cart

Just my 2 cents but I can understand your pain. I've only been at it for 7 days now (started last Friday night in fact). It took me all weekend to get the thing to work even have decently. Took me another 5 days to finally start getting some real vapor going and feeling like its actually working the way it should. Tonight I unboxed my first kit (see my post in the 401/2 review forum).

The only problem with e-cigs is the refilling of carts now. To me that's the most fiddly thing going. But because I can't smoke in the house, and even more so, I'm tired of feeling like I'm always out of breath I think its worth it. That is as long as it really is healthier then regular smokes. Any way there are some e-cigs out there with what they call a cartimizer which is the cartridge and attomizer all in one. No refilling (unless you want to). Only thing is to screw on a battery. Personally I would like a version that doesn't have the LED on the tip but maybe as a ring close to where the atty attaches. Then you could just screw the battery in to the charger with out removing anything. Wonder if the manufacturers read the forums?

Lol, being a newbie, when I got my eGo the other day, I saw the shipping cap (looks exactly like a cart) on the atty and thought they actually shipped it with a loaded cart on it. I thought, hey cool, so I vaped it up for a while only to realized it wasn't really a cart at all.

They should probably explain that stuff a bit better in manual actually. I think they forget that some people have never used a PV before.
