That happened to me too, but I don't think it was from changing to a particular e-juice. One side of my face swelled up pretty badly and I had to go to the doctor and get antibiotics for an infection. It went away after 3-4 days, but my face was numb from halfway up from my jaw.
I started a newbie thread last year about side effects from vaping. I've had quite a few, but I deal with it because they outweigh smoking again.
After about a month after I made the switch to vaping, I got a terrible canker sore under my upper lip, which is the exact area where my drip is positioned. Took 3 weeks to go away completely, but it hasn't happened again. This I am positive is from the vaping, too much of a coincidence.
During my 5th month I got a stye in my left eye and was bedridden for a week with an infection. It was almost swollen shut by the time I went to the Dr.
During my 6th month I went for a consultation for Lasik, but they refused to perform the procedure on me because she noticed what looked like cold sore on the vaping side of my lip. Said it was an acute form of Herpes (not the STD kind) and would require 1 month wait and medication, which I declined.
During the 8th month I got the cheek infection I mentioned earlier.
On weekends when I have nothing to do, I will vape a lot. Sometimes after those weekends I get pimples/cold sores on the edge of my lip. That I'm sure is caused by the vaping. Happened last weekend as a matter of fact.
Keep in mind I'm relatively young, and hadn't gone to the doctor in like 15 years, but had to go 3 times since I started vaping last June. I haven't really looked it up too much, but it wouldn't shock me if vaping proves to weaken your immune system and make you more prone to infection.
Your gf should see a doctor. Get it checked out, and maybe get a prescription for something.
On the flip side, I don't smell, I don't have as many chest pains as I used to, and my shortness of breath has been reduced since I switched to vaping, so I feel like it's been a good trade-off.
