I've been vaping for a while now and somebody showed me a website where I could get almost 100% VG juices (which are really, really nice).

Unfortunately, I've noticed with them (I think) that when I use my VG my throat swells up, almost like when you have tonsillitis.

I had this effect when I first started with PG but the effect didn't hit as quick as VG and stopped altogether after a while, I don't have this problem with PG any more.

How credible does this sound? I really like VG, but I can't keep 100% vaping when my throat is swollen so bad. I even stumbled back to cigarettes a couple of times because my throat was visibly swollen so bad.

I've passed the time it took with PG, and it still happens...

I'm almost certain it's the VG but wanted to check the grape vine first before I give my VG juices away.

Is it definitely the VG? is there a way to combat it?

I think my other juices are like 70/30 PG/VG so I don't fully understand.

I have been on this forum for 9 month now and I never read of this problem. I have read that VG might leave a slime like coating for some people. And some people have PG allergy reactions. I can say that I have reactions to some flavorings, but it is more like I get hives or tight breathing in the chest. That is all I can say about it other than don't toss out anything until you are sure. Actually save it, you may beable to give to a friend or someone interested in vaping sometime in the unknown future.

I've never heard of this, either. VG is considered much less of an irritant than PG, and even PG is relatively harmless.

Like retired1, I would suspect flavorings rather than the VG.

What could also be happening here is that since VG masks throat hit, it allows you to use higher nicotine level liquids and vape more than with a PG liquid. It could be the nic level of the liquid that's getting to you because the VG is hiding it from you.

After eliminating the flavorings as the irritant, try dropping the nic level down a couple of notches. If you're using 36, go to 18. If 24, go to 12 and if 18, go to 6. If you're still suffering from the sore throat, then hmmm...

One more thing: You are staying well hydrated, aren't you? If you are vaping more because of the VG-throathit issue, you might be getting dehydrated faster, and that'll hurt anyone's throat.

I've read people having issues with PG but never VG (but then again, a couple people in the world have been allergic to water). Take note of anything else you had for intake that same day (food, medicine) and the nic level and pg/vg mix ratio. Something besides vg may become more apparent. This article lists some info about VG allergy Side Effects Of Vegetable Glycerin | LIVESTRONG.COM. The problem could also be caused by other ingredients in the e-juice you vape. Get a complete list of juice ingredients or try the same mix ratio from another supplier and compare results.

I figured as much, but the thing is I have plenty of juices. I'll have a few on the go at any one time. I've been on PG for ages, only had a problem the first 2 weeks - if that. And it was more of a dehydrating problem, not the tonsillitis, throat swelling I'm having now.

I'm normally on 10-18mg juices just fine with PG... It definitely doesn't feel like nicotine overdose.

I won't throw them away, I'll give them to my brother in law, he introduced me to them.

You can be allergic to VG and PG. You're more likely having a reaction to the sweetening compound commonly used...someone should chime in with that soon.

It's funny you've mentioned this actually, when I ordered my juices from ECBlend I added extra sweetener to all of my juices XD. Perhaps this is the issue then, it would make more sense than a VG allergy.

I'll try some VG another time without the added sweetener, see how that goes.

VG is noticeably more delicious than PG blends :)

Thanks guys

I think you should get some VG from the store & try it without anything else. That will tell you if your problem is specifically with VG.

I don't have an "allergy" to VG but I can not vape juices with more than 30% VG in them or my throat starts to really hurt. But your problem does not sound like what I experience at all. It sounds like an allergic reaction so something.
