So I have just started e-smoking, and while it's great, I gotta say that having a plastic eye dropper full of yummie smelling, highly toxic, contact poison in the same house as small children seems absolutely insane.

Right now I am carrying my bottle around everywhere. I never let it leave my sight. But there has got to be a better way. Locking up the bottle and only carrying carts around almost makes the problem worse by multiplying the toxic treats to track. I am pretty sure that if my 2 year old popped one of those nice vanilla, apple of chocolate smelling chunks of plastic and sucked on it he would be just as dead as if he found the full 30ml bottle. Even with a low nic cart.

I am suprized there isn't more traffic on this subject. E-juice is seriously scary stuff. The amounts required are small, ingestion or skin contact will do, its very fast acting with no real remedy, oh and it smells great and efficient e-smoking requires easy access to it. Perhaps most other smokers dont have kids - but what about pets? Flavoured carts probably make nice smelling doggie treats..

Has anyone come up with safe storage or top up practices? Are there any good safe portable containers out there? Really interested in finding a solution that will help me sleep at night other than going back to analogues. In this one respect analogues are way safer than e-cigs.

PS.
I wanted to post this in the "Health Safety and E-Smoking" section but apparently i have to jump through many more unknown golden hoops before I am let out of the new members section. If this thread gets any good replies/solutions please move this there moderators. I really think this subject needs to be addressed.

Twiz, the topic has been covered quite thoroughly in other parts of the forum along with many many ways to childproof your juice.

Depending on the age of your children, I would suggest putting your bottle inside of an empty pill bottle with a child lock on it.

But I am sure may other members will re-post their ways to circumnavigate the potential harm of children + juice.

I dunno I have been digging around all the forum for quite a while looking for a definitive thread and haven't found any that address safety from a day to day usage with kids perspective. Or a thread with the 'the Ultimate E-juice dispenser for safety and practicality'.

Appreciate the within an empty pill bottle suggestion though, I hadn't thought of that, it's a start.

Fortunately it seems casual skin contact might not be that bad a danger.

Sucking is different, though. Mouth absorbs the nic strongly.

I solved this by having a very smal antique wooden inlaid box with a tiny key. The box holds 2 small dropper bottles (10 ml) and the key is on my neck. It only adds a few seconds when you top carts with liquid to unlock the box and lock it afterwards.

As for carts, it depends on how strong juice you use. It smells nicely, but you can only lick a small amount before spitting, because we all know how awfully it tastes. So, if you are a low nic vaper, lets say 8 mg, the kid would have to suck in something like a a mililitre or more of liquid (full penstyle cart, 2-3 901 carts) and hold it for at least several seconds to absorb through mucous membranes.

This is a subject that concerns me, as well. I don't have little kids (my "baby" is 16), but I do have a beloved dog and a 3 year old nephew whom I watch quite frequently.

My sister, whom I just introduced to e-smoking, purchased a small lock box to hold her liquids. I'm wondering how that's going to work on an ongoing basis. I mean, it's great for storage, but not so great when you're topping off a couple of times in an evening.

Since I don't have the constant presence of little ones, I simple keep my juice in a box and then put it on the highest shelf in my office when little people are around. Not a great solution for someone who lives with small ones on a daily basis, though.

One solution my husband suggested was a small refrigerator. Apparently, some of them now come with key-locks. I've ordered some small glass vials off of eBay, and I plan on moving small amounts to vials (which I will label) for daily use. I'm going to try to find a large, empty childproof container to keep those small vials in for daily use so that I'm not having to constantly access the refrigerator.

As the parent of 2 (6 and 10) I've got to say I don't see the issue, even refilling multiple times a day, with turning a key to get at my juice if it keeps my kids safe. I mean seriously, I dont think anyone is suggesting a time lock fingerprint scanner. Does going to a box and using a key to open it take so much longer than getting it from where you keep it now? I mean if you keep it on you all the time, sure it's longer before refills, but if you are keeping it on you 24/7... what's the issue?

MisterPuck--I think a lot of it depends on how often you're refilling. For example, with my DSE901, I tend to drip smoke, which basically means every time I want a "smoke," I'm going for the liquid. Imagine, if you will, back to the days of smoking analogs and having to unlock a box to get at your cigarettes every time you wanted a smoke. For a light smoker, it might not be a big deal, but I'm a former 2+ pack a day smoker, so I vape a lot (although I am slowly reducing my nic concentrations).

So, no, keeping everything in a locked refrigerator in my basement 24/7 won't work well for me at all. I don't know, though . . . maybe if I had small children who lived in my home, that's how I'd do it.

The thread title is "E-Juice + Children = !" and as has been made clear in many posts on this forum they don't go together.

The danger with too much public fretting about children and the potential trouble they could get into with e-liquid is that it provides fuel for those who would like to ban e-cigarettes.

Put simply the child's wellbeing is the responsibility of the parent. A small child could eat many things that are not good for it - it is up to the parent to see to it that it does not.

I know I posted this somewhere on this forum but I have no problem reposting it.
Go to your local pharmacy and ask for their largest and/or strongest child proof bottles. Put everything in there and treat it just like you would any prescription. The fluid is not too dangerous as far as light skin contact goes. I would also suggest sticking a Mr. Yuck sticker on it. If you don’t have any you can usually get some from poison control or your pediatrician’s office. At least I assume that they are still using the Mr. Yuck program. That sticker kept me out of a lot of nasty stuff when I was a kid. And I was a very curious child.:D As long as the sticker is explained properly it works great.

I don't necessarily disagree with this, but, on the other hand, I think it's valid for adults to discuss ways in which they can help keep their children safe. In other words, yes, it's the parents' responsibility to keep their children safe, but it's important for people to be able to share ideas on how that can be accomplished.

For example, I hadn't thought about the idea of a large, empty childproof medicine container to hold eliquids until I saw it posted here.

Mine are 10, 6 and 2. I keep my big juices and assorted paraphernalia in a spice rack cabinet thing my DH built, not much different from a medicine chest, but no cabinet beneath to climb up on. Even with a chair my youngest can't reach. I treat it like you would with medications. The older two understand it's poisonous, even just on the skin.

I have a little zip pouch with whatever I'm wanting quick access. It's about the size of a sun glasses case, but soft and skinnier. You can put a mini combo luggage lock on the zipper if you wanted and also clip it to your belt loop. I just treat it like I did with my pack of analogs and lighter. It's on me or in the cabinet, so I've never bothered with a lock or attached it while at home. If your prone to leaving things lying around, a lock would be a good idea. Even a diaper pen through the zipper if they're still pretty young. They might walk off with it, but won't be able to access anything. After so long with kids in the house, I just automatically put up anything I don't want them to tear up. LOL

You can get little drip bottles to keep top off juice in cheap. Look near the cash registers or toothpaste aisle for liquid breath drops. I have 2 brands, one a 3.7ml in a flat sided teardrop shape from Walgreens, the other a 3.2ml round from Dollar Tree. 3/$1 I have a 2 fully assembled penstyles, 2 little bottles of juice and a pilot in it right now. It's got all I'll need for the day in it. Heck, if the batteries are decent, that's enough for 2 people.

If you're really absentminded, lots of lanyards or little change pouches you can clip to you are available. E-cigs take up less space than analogs for me.

Precautions while E-smoking when you have little ones about IMHO is no more difficult than living with little ones any other day. Put stuff up. You wouldn't leave your lighter or pack of analogs lying around for them would you. DH puts up the TV remote, we all put our drinks up, etc. HTH
