Do you have an original Ego? What do you think is the difference in quality and performance between a fake and original EGO?
If everybody doesn't mind my 2 cents....
Original Ego
- Sold under the brands "Janty" and "Joye"
- Tends to be higher quality, with better components that lasts a bit longer. Components as in the mosfet, or electronics that controls the power output and amps.
- Less susceptible to getting killed by shorted atomizer or cartomizer, although it does happen.
- Lower operating voltage compared to clones. Tends to be about 0.2 to 0.3 volts below clones, but there have been rumours that it has been improved.
- Seems to last longer in terms of lifespan. I have a friend who has an original Joye Ego battery still operating, while I've gone through 2 Riva batteries in the same time.
- Tends to be more expensive, much more expensive.
Clones
- Anything not made by Joye is commonly considered a clone. This includes Riva, Hello 016, etc.
- Higher operating voltage, some even have features that regulates power at about 3.7V from fully charged to almost flat
- As the voltage tends to be a little bit higher, clones for me give a slightly hotter vapor, flavor and throat hit.
- I've had 2 Rivas die from shorted atomizer or cartomizer. Seems the mosfet is easily killed by this type of thing.
- Doesn't seem to last as long as the original Joye Ego, in terms of lifespan
- Sometimes not able to work properly with some atomizers or cartomizers. Case in point, the Ego mega cartomizer doesn't seem to make contact well with the connector, and some don't work with my clones, not without a bit of modifying.
- Cheap, very cheap. A set of 2 batteries plus accessories can be bought locally for RM100+.
- Depending on the factory that made it, clones can either be a piece of crap, or good value for money with high quality and low price.
There are a lot more differences, but these are the ones that I've found that do influence my experience with the Ego style battery. This does not mean that I think the original Joye or Janty Ego is better. I find that buying clones work best for me, as I had intended to move on to better mods, and the clones were just a stepping stone to get there, with reduced cost.
At the end of the day, I feel that the Ego style battery, no matter if it's an original, or a clone, is the best e-cig in the world today. Not to say that mods are not good, but I can't think of another e-cig which is that cheap, easy to use, not much larger than a 510, and is so flexible and versatile. Granted, it doesn't give you the best you can get, but it sure is handy. Many veterans tend to keep at least one Ego style battery as backup. As a main e-cig, it's grand, giving most people a good day of vaping.
The 510 was my first proper e-cig, but the Ego style was the one that gave me the vapour experience I needed that let me switch from tobacco to vaping.
