e-Smoking & Sore throat (Not a health QN)

As some of you might know, i'm still waiting for me very first e-Cig, i doubt it'll reach me anytime this week. But I've been thinking about this today.

I'm down with a cold, cough and a serious sore throat today. As every smoker knows, having a sore throat is one of the worst nightmares for a smoker. It hurts like hell when you smoke but you can't live without it.

As i was smoking painstakingly away, i started thinking will i feel more comfortable with an e-Cig at a time like this. I came to a conclusion myself that it will and my lust for my e-Cig started expanding.

Any comments from experienced e-smokers here? Do you feel pain or uncomfortable when u e-smoke while having a sore throat?

You may still get pain in htroat as it can cause drying of throat, and soemtimes deliver a bit of harsh hit, but the majority of time, it's not too harsh a hit, especially if you take smaller drags. It's only when you 'direct inhale' into lungs instead of puffing a small amount into mouth first, then inhale- I guess soem peopel smoek with direct inhale, I rarely do, but hwen I've tried it with hte eciggs, it is a bit harsher in my opinion- enough to almost make me cough, but not quite

I'm not a direct inhale person. Ever since i start smoking, i always "store" the smoke in my mouth because sucking them in at one go.

Ironically, I'm actually hoping the e-Cig to be able to provide me with a good backthroat bite as that's what im looking for when i smoke other than the nicotine.

I think you'll get an ok back-throat bite- this was important to me too, and I get an ok one from the ecigg- when hte cartridge is new- after abotu 4-5 real ciggs worth of smoking hte ecigg though, this drops off dramatically, but it's ok- I don't always need that throat bite & the vapor is almost enough to overcome this smoking 'need' to a degree- would rather have hte burn for the whole duration of the cartridge, but I've found I reluctantly got used to it diminishing after a bit. Wasn't easy, and I htought I wasn't goign to be able to get used to a 'nothing' type inhale, but the other positives was almsot enough for me. Still have to have hte regular ciggs htough when the cartridges lose hteir bite soemhwhat

but as few mins at most 30mins! if u keep puffing the effect slow down..
cos the liquid is somehow need to absord .to atomiser

and atomiser is getting hot..

battery power also decrease a bit.

but overall u will keep puffing every min.

after 6days of puffing I noticed why
because u used to monoxide ..tar ect on real cig
e smoke only nicotine so u do feel different!

honestly bro I don;t bluff ..only the very first puffing as I mention is almost like real cigarette the feeling.


I maybe weird..I already tasted try many flavours this few days even on high nicotine mg...I feel the taste of all e liquid is like the same ...dull and flavour not stong enough. I am a menthol guy here last time on red marbloro.
I want is strong flavour ...
maybe the cart I order is not very upgraded.

I also happen to order one 901 and V2 cannot get over self concusion out side socially using my penstyle

altought penstyle alot seem said better in battery and cart usage.

I going to see the difference but I feel is roughly the draw ..vapour is all the same just the looks

Sadly i placed my order on a friday night and they couldn't mail it out till monday. I suppose i should be able to get it like early next week.

Simon would have sent it out by royal mail xanthos. Last parcel I ordered from the UK took 4 days to arrive here in New Zealand. If Singapore is similar you should be enjoying your new toy by this weekend. That's as long as it doesn't get held up in customs clearances at your end ... fingers crossed.

Hey Xanthos,

I find that because I've been smoking the e-cig for a while now, I don't feel a sore throat like I did when I first started, and I agree with Kit - it's not as bad as fags anyway.

What you will notice is that the PG really dries out your throat, and if you already have a sore, dry throat this will not help. I just make sure I drink water throughout the day (as normal) and especially when I'm using my e-cig, and I find that it doesn't make my sore throat any worse.

Haven't had a sore throat since I started esmoking, but I had them often from too much smoking with regular ciggies. I know you are talking about illness though.

Anyway, just wanted to say I look for the same thing, the backthroat bite, that is number 1 for me and I am unsatisfied without it. That topic is right now being discussed here: Where's the hit gone?

Menthol is used in cigarettes precisely to dull the harshness of tobacco smoke. I do wish e-liquid had something that would do the same in time of illness. E-vapor certainly will not help an already sore throat, or already struggling lungs. Propylene glycol will further dry a raw throat and the vapor will degrade to lactic acid in the lungs and stress them even further.

My own routine is to stop inhaling anything if I'm ill. Move to snus or some other non-inhalable form of nicotine use. Now that I've discovered I can melt Luden cough drops in a candy mold and add nicotine to them -- a new world of possibilities opens up.

Haven't had a cold or sore throat since I started e-smoking (and the perennial bunged-up head all smokers have cleared up in a week or so). PG does dry out my mouth, but it was dry anyway. If anything the dryness is less pronounced since I switched.

I'm serious when I suggest having some mentholated nasal snuff on hand for times like yours. A little bit of that in each nostril and you'll be breathing Alpine air in nothing flat! It's actually cured many people with chronic stuffiness. Not for me every day, but I keep about 10 cans on hand at all times.

I'm not exactly the snuff type, but if it's like breathing Alpine air, you've got my attention! Maybe it would be good to have around for flu season. Could you tell me what brand and what website to get it from? I've never bought any before, so I'm totally clueless.

There are probably mentholated nasal snuffs at a tobacco store in your area. For starters on brands, go to Snuffhouse.org - G&H - CM (camphor/menthol) and you'll find a thread on mentholated snuffs. For more in that forum (a really good, informed group of folks) type "metholated" in the search bar.

Remember that this stuff is sniffed, never snorted. Expect to sneeze when you start it the first time. Have a dark hankie handy. If you continue with it, the sneezing goes away.

I looked up some specific ones. As I said, try your local tobacco store, but I've always ordered from Mars Cigars&Pipes. Sadly, they can no longer accept credit cards, a spreading trend threatening to halt Internet sales of tobacco products. You can order by email, pay by money order, etc. Or look elsewhere for these good mentholated snuffs:

Dutch Windmill- Mentholin (this is a no-tobacco nasal snuff!)
Gawith Hoggarth - GH- CM (Camphor/Menthol)
Poschl - Gletscherprise
Wilsons of Sharrows- Honey Menthol

mars cigars & pipes - Nasal Snuff

These are dirt cheap items and will last a loooooong time. Do not go overboard or you'll have enough to supply your neighborhood.

Are snuffs a great alternative? I can't stand anything going up my nose, especially strong flavoured mint smell like, a snuff.
