Wow, so where to begin. I got off the worst 15 hour workday ever, figured I'd stop by the ECF forums to check out whats new, etc etc etc. Anyway, I came across a post somewhere on here about credit card safety and vendors, etc. I literally NEVER check my bank account, but after reading that article, I thought "hmm, I wonder if my wife deposited the money I gave her earlier today". Checked my account, boom, identity thieves got my info.......$595.00 at an online electronics shop, more $$ spent at a nutrition shop (a health conscience identity thief, who woulda thunk), and some other minor charges that went to heaven knows where. All charges were still "In Process" thank goodness. I'm still not sure if I am going to go through hell on this one, but I think perhaps because they were just charged yesterday I caught it in time to dodge a bullet. Everything has been cancelled, etc, and I honestly have ECF to thank for it, because had it not been for checking this forum, I woulda just went to bed after a 15 hour workday and ignored my account. ECF, I guess you all help out even more than you intended to and I thank you IMMENSELY.

I get a virtual CC# from my credit card company. the charge goes to your regular CC#. you can specify the amount of the card and the expiration month. it takes a few minutes to do, but it is much easier than dealing with CC theft! someone got our number (not online BTW, we think it was a restaurant, it's a card we don't use online) and spent lots of money. the CC company alerted us. I had to laugh though when we started receiving packages from old navy and the gap - apparently the store made a mistake and sent them to the billing address and not the shipping address the crook used. we hope they were caught

Well folks, unfortunately, the stuff the thieves ordered were delivered, so now it becomes a giant dispute process. I was pretty quick I must admit! But the thieves were a bit quicker. Seems they got a brand new Sony Vaio computer and some health products. Went to the police dept however, and they said this was the 2nd case just this week. The other person got took for a big screen tv. Either way, I am ever so grateful to ECF for making me check my accounts!!!!

I have my bank set up to email me when a transaction occurs on my credit card and also when my bank account balance drops below a preset amount. If your bank supports these notifications, you can do a lot of things to have them notify you when events occur. When I order ecig supplies (or anything) I get an email on my Android phone minutes after they charge my card. That also happens when I use the card in a restaurant or other face to face situation.

With those kind of notifications, you can jump on the situation by the time the thieves walk out the door and load it in the car. in the case of online purchases, you can stop them before they are shipped by having the bank cancel the transaction with the vendor. It's worth changing banks to get those free services.

Any chance you could let us know who you ordered from?

Was not any vendor at all e-cigarette related, I found out from the detective that the package was actually send locally to an abandoned house. They got a free Sony Viao computer, and apparently a few days prior a big screen tv from someone elses card. He told me the biggest mistake I could make is to eat out and give my card to someone to take to a room by themselves to process, therefore giving them access to take pictures on their phone of my card. So far, all the vendors I've dealt with e-cig wise have been amazing, thank goodness.
