Homeish now
My grandmother who is 29(aka 83), and not in the best of health...has been a heavy smoker for 60 plus years.
Has never really "tried" to quit, she says she likes smoking to much. (personally I think it's a layer of her feminist, I'll do what I damn well want political motives...grandma is interesting lets put it that way)
We are very close talk all the time so I've of course been talking about ecigs to her....Not in a you must try this, in a oh I'm so thrilled what I found for myself! kinda way.
And well....she wants to give it a try!!!!:vapor:

If I were anywhere near her this would be so much easier...
I'm concerned that if it isnt, just right the first time around....that will be the end of it. Unlike the majority of folks who start vaping, I'm unsure how much she will be willing to dink around with it to get it right for her personally.
She isnt technical...Starts getting all complicated, and I think she will loose interest.
Plus there is the taste thing... She smokes virginia slims, those are menthol right??
She's also obsessive over starbucks caramel Frappuccinos....has at least one a day.(against docs advise, so this might fix two birds one stone) Anyone know of a e-liquid that tastes like that?

So does anyone have any advise with helping much older folks, switch successfully???

Hi Rose

The only 70+ person I helped to convert, took to it like a duck to water. I credit the success with recommending an 808 NOT a 510. Simplified things for her and she expressed no interest in re-filling cartos in spite of the money savings. She laid down a 50+ year habit in less than two weeks. I think I woulda lost her completely in less time than that if she had had to mess with cartridges, atty maintenance and priming, etc.

Just my .02 based on my personal experience.

Awhile back there was a nurse that was working with older smokers and had some good advise. I haven't seen her around lately but I don't venture out of here much anymore. This is such an important topic it might be something good to post in the Health & Safety section reworded so others could add their experiences.

Since so many senior apartment complexes are going to non-smoking it would be nice if this forum could reach out and offer help to the seniors needing guidance with vaping. Maybe people have and it's a matter of finding the threads. LOL

808 carts lasting depends on how much you smoke just like anything else.
I can get about 30+ drops in a 808 cartomizer if that helps.
I would also say go with the kr808 for grandma. It is a no fuss solution for her.
The only one I have found with a big selection of cart flavors is v4l. I personally dont like their juice, but many do like it.
You could always fill them for her and just mail them to her too,
Not all virginia slims are menthol, might be best to ask her on that.

if you smoke a pack a day i found that 2 cartos is enough for all day just make sure she doesnt vapem dry and get that burnt taste if she does just chunck em, its just finding what mg to use i started at 18mg but had to go to 36 for a couple weeks then droped to 12mg with the ocasional 24mg cinnacide to help in stress. than that ever elusive every day vape.........you know the drill
but cartos are so much easy'er i think if i would have had a 510 to start i would have given up after the first week

Have to agree with the "K.I.S.S." aspect of cartos (808 or 510).
(I'm currently trying 510 cartos myself, but so far, not impressed)

I am a 510 fanatic, and have passed out about 20 disposable kits (510 clones), and even done "Welcome to vaping" classes on the various types of hardware.

I have found that the family/friends well into the *grandparent* age range have preferred the simpler cartomizer models- even if it costs a bit more to use (not refilling).

+1 on the 808

V4L has a really good Virginia flavored carto and a caramel mocha frapaccino flavor one as well. If her and you would be willing, she could send you the empties and you refill and send back. It really isn't that hard to fill them. If I just vape on one carto it usually takes me 2 a day to get thru the day and I consider myself a heavy vaper. But I have other PVs that I use too so that is not a normal thing for me.

+ whatever on cartos just to keep things simple. My Dad prefers his pre filled, but hasn't switched over- he just uses them inside around my mom who is "suddenly allergic" to cig smoke (I personally think she's finally found a wily way to get him to cut down) The only way I was able to get my stubborn hubs to switch was with the 808s. He hates fiddling with things.

Okay, most of you saw my post about my gramma vaping now... she still hasn't smoked a real cig (2 weeks-ish now I think!?) and she is using a 901. I have a 901 and an 808, and I prefer the draw on the 901 much more than the 808 because it's too easy of a draw on the 808 and I don't get good vapor. My gramma said the 901 feels a lot like a cigarette to vape on, she just doesn't like the taste. I am willing to bet that if I handed her the 808 she would HATE it. So I am going against what pretty much everyone else is saying... but I say the 901 would be your best bet. You can get prefilled cartridges with the 901 too, and then you don't have to worry about refilling. BUT, my gramma is doing perfectly find refilling the carts with juice!

Ya know, my grandma has emphysema and quit smoking pretty much the day she found out she had it. I remember I even had a dozen roses delivered to her house on her 30 day anniversary of not smoking lol (this was a few years ago)
My grandpa on the other hand still smokes like a frickin chimney... lights cigs off other cigs kinda thing. I'm afraid hes gonna fall asleep and blow them all up because of her oxygen lol. He smokes in the house, just a few feet away from my grandma. I've always wondered if he'd go for the e-cig thing, but honestly I don't think it would work for him. He's too grumpy and lazy... lol.
And way to go Toni's g-ma!!!!!

I'm going to go against the grain a little too. I tried the 808 first (after having tasted a greensmoke) I bought the 808 while waiting on my 510 to arrive. I didn't like the 808 at all (but that might have been the horrid menthol taste of the cartos and the weenie vapor production of that model..?) But I've since moved on from the 510, to the 801 penstyles (LOVE the flavor on those!), and now the blu (compatible w/306)
I reccommend the 306, Volcano, Blu. I think it's a combination of all the cigs. It has the ease of the cartos, more vapor (especially if you drop in a little VG.. I carry a teeny bottle) and yet it uses a very durable atty, with a cart/batty combo. It also has a nice little PCC. Now, the battery life sucks the big one, but it will fit on the 510... and the batteries also charge quickly in the little PCC, so one can be charging while you are using the other.
Bottom line is: no matter what you ultimately choose, there are going to be drawbacks and pluses to each model. You'll just have to find what works for HER best, so i wouldn't invest too heavily in any one thing. She may surprise you and like something else. I still use all of mine :)

BEST OF LUCK!
