What up guys,

I have been a lurker here for a few weeks. I have successfully quit smoking going strong over a month now. A couple times in the beginning I wasn't getting the right satisfaction from my vape so I lit a cigarette and it tasted like ....! Complete nastiness! How is it possible that only after a couple weeks vaping that cigarettes tastes disgusting after I've been smoking for over 18 years?!?!? Anyhow, I've invested a lot of money in the last month (way too much money actually) in an effort to quit smoking for good. My first setup was an iTaste VV 3, with a Kanger Genitank Mini. I was impressed. One day getting into my car with my mod in pocket and atty attached, it broke in my pocket. Pocket full of juice and glass...really nasty. Instead of getting frustrated, I drove to a local vape shop and picked up the Genitank original. It was bigger in size and I could put more liquid in it! After vaping the regular genitank for a week, I was watching mad youtube videos and doing lots of research. I wanted more vapor, more satisfying throat hit, higher quality juice etc... 18mg was too strong, 6mg was too weak (no throat hit at all) so I found my ground at 12mg nic. 12mg is perfect for me because I can take a nice deep pull, feel the throat hit and still taste the flavor. As you go up in nicotine, the flavor gets muted more and more.

Long story short, I ended up buying the Atlantis tank and CF Sub battery. This beast of a rig chucks vapor at an astounding rate. Yes, it's fun to blow clouds at 6mg nic or less, however I still wanted my "go to" rig for that all day vape satisfaction I could puff 12mg on. So I bought the Provari 3 with Nautilus tank. The P3 is a very very high end piece of equipment. The Vape I get on the P3 is an unmatched experience, and satisfies my nic cravings at 12 mg. Now, I have 2 main set ups to use. If I want to blow clouds and get extremely intense flavor, I'll use the Atlantis/CF Sub rig, but if I just want to relax and enjoy an extremely satisfying vaping experience, in the morning with coffee, after a meal, while watching TV, driving etc...I use my P3.

I am absolutely astounded by the health benefits I've been getting from this transformation. No more chronic morning cough, shortness of breath, stinky clothes/breath/fingers. I can now run up stairs without gasping for air for the next five minutes. I can now do more cardio at the gym without getting winded so quickly. After doing a set of benchpress, my heart doesn't feel like it's jumping out of my chest anymore. I have more energy, mentally and physically, and best of all...I don't crave cigarettes anymore!

So, some of the smokers at my job that I used to join every few hours throughout the day for a smoke haven't seen me outside anymore. I told them I quit, and I'm vaping now. They are all very skeptical about it, and give me these weird looks like it's some crazy contraption I had in my hand. They asked what I was using. When I showed them my mod, their eyes bulged out of their heads, and was like "... is that?!?" So I explained to them it's not smoke, it's vape. I explained what the battery does, and how it heats the coil to convert the juice into the vape, and how it's changed my life. They all said that they didn't want to taste funky flavors...they just wanted that cigarette taste, b/c they enjoyed the taste of cigarettes. They were all subtly bashing me like I was this weirdo freak holding this heavy piece of stainless steel that looked like a mini light saber in my hand with their stupid smirks on their faces that said you look like an idiot carrying around that thing. One guy said that he saw on the news in a Japanese study how ecigs have 10x more cancerous compounds than traditional cigarettes, and I was like...that's such bull..... He was like "yea, I saw it on the news....... that, I'll stick to my cigarettes!" They all laughed and continued to puff away at their cancer sticks, while I just told them, you guys have no idea what you're missing out on. Some people are just downright ignorant. They would rather kill themselves smoking cigarettes.

Later that night I researched on the internet what he was talking about, and found these links. Apparently, if you google "Japanese study ecigs 10x more cancerous" it will populate dozens of articles that state the same thing. This guy saw it on the news and it freaked him out. Imagine how many others it will freak out! The forum won't let me put links below, but please google these articles and let me know what you guys think about this. Is this some tobacco company hoax to falsely scare the public into going back to analogs in order to make up for their losses? Could this be true? How can it be possible, when I've seen such incredible health benefits after making this transition?

All replies are welcome. I'm curious what our community thinks about these articles... it can be quite scary to the non educated vapers out there.

You do realise the tests were not carried out properly?

here is a quote from another forum.

This looks to be a recreation of an FDA study done about 5 years ago,
They used a smoking machine to run some cartos dry, to the point where they self destructed. The science was so bad in that one the FDA pulled it from their website.

I would imagine is suits the Japanese economy just great to spread bad science about e-cigs. Japan cannot afford to lose tobacco revenue and have people living longer.

anyway... there's comment on here.

E-cigarette aerosol contains 6 times LESS formaldehyde than tobacco cigarette smoke

The group did state that the author of the newest study, Professor Kunugita, contacted them in response to pointing out the discrepancy and noted that the latest study bases its findings on a newer model “in which he found 1600μg formaldehyde per 15 puffs.”

To that, the advocacy group responded.

“It is true that this level is 10 times higher than what is present in tobacco cigarettes. However, this is an unpublished result, a single extreme case out of the many products he tested, and we do not know what went wrong in that case (e.g. high power levels, low levels of liquid inside, malfunctioning device etc). Still, the media frenzy is completely inappropriate.”

Probably measured a dry carto imho

Bad things can happen when vaping. Many here are blinded by their views just as many ANTZ are. Others just repeat without validating anything they are told.

The very high wattage vaporizers and the free for all in the e-liquid market can render a relatively safe habit into a risky one. I recommend caution and your first post indicate that you are doing it right by seeking information.

Hmm Japans National yada yada Public Health's government paid researcher Naoki Kunugita says:

“Especially when the wire (which vapourises the liquid) gets overheated, higher amounts of those harmful substances seemed to be produced,” he told AFP. He added: “We need to be aware that some makers are selling such products for dual use (with tobacco) or as a gateway for young people [to start smoking].”

Yep no agenda there eh?
