[h=5]I'm totally confused. I just got my new SS Z-Max and needed a battery. It takes a 18650 Li-Ion. Ok, so I want to my local store and bought a "AW IC Protection built in 2600 MAH battery. I was informed on this forum that it is not the right battery and that the performance will s**k. They said to get a IMR 18650 instead. What is the difference between the AW IC and the IMR 18650 or the CGR18650CH which was also mentined as being OK to use. To add insult to injury, the shop charged me $22.50 for the "AW IC Protection built in 2600 MAH battery". I think I was screwed on the price because I have seen nothing available that expensive. Any advice is appreciated.[/h]

The three batteries you described are different chemistries. The IMR is considered a high drain battery and will outperform a traditional lithium ion battery at high current. IIRC your zmax is capable of 4a, and that would be considered a pretty high drain.

The short story is you bought a battery that is not capable of giving your device the 4a it's capable. The IMR or Panasonic hybrid IMR will be able to do what you need it to.

Do some simple google research on battery chemistry and li-on vs IMR. There is a ton of info out there.

Hopefully they could swap it out for something you need, but you were right on the money. The price is outrageous, and I'd look elsewhere. I can get the Panasonic hybrid IMR for $6 from a great little US startup business from a forum I'm a part of. These guys are top notch and I personally guarantee you a more than pleasant experience.

Thanks for the link! I've been looking for a good price on 26650s. Now it looks like I might have to restock my 18650s at these prices. :D
