Hi.

Some times a post can get "lost" in a flurry of high activity on the forum. Didn't catch this the first time around but did when you gave it a bump.

I remember having braces and the irritation (practically cuts) they can cause to soft tissue. This one is a tough call. Some people do report having problems with mouth ulcers when they change over from smoking to vaping. See the list here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/health-safety-e-smoking/3305-list-symptoms-when-quitting-tobacco-changing-ecigarette.html

In your case the braces complicates the question. The only thing I can think of if it's the braces, the irritation lines up with some point of contact with them. If you are having a problem with mouth ulcers that could show up in more random areas.

The topic of PG or VG allergic reactions comes up quite often on ECF. So much so that searching on the topic is kinda daunting. I coulda swore there is a list of possible allergic symptoms on ECF but I can't locate it. Some of the more common allergic symptoms can be nausea, headache, an intense feeling of itching on the skin with no rash or other cause present and difficulty breathing. I don't recall if mouth ulcers are ever reported in combination with any of those symptoms. I see an Allergist and he definitely thinks my experience - nausea, vomiting, itching and difficulty breathing - indicates I have an allergic reaction to PG. But allergic reactions in context of what we are vaping is an area with zero research right now. Allergic reaction is known to happen when PG is in FDA approved products - including anesthesia. Those get reported and tracked. But with e-cigs, for now, we as the end user are left in the wild to sort this issue out.

Hope this helps.

You can always do a test run of rule it in/rule it out. Find a 100 VG liquid you like - or as close to 100 as you can get - and switch for several days. See what you get.

I can tolerate what PG I know is in some "100" VG liquids in flavoring bases. But that allergic reaction I was having to a high PG liquid started on my first day of vaping and on day four hit me full force after only a half dozen vapes. When I tried again with a DK 100 VG liquid - zero negative reactions to it. That was it for PG for me.

You may not have to go to that extreme. But if you find that things improve at 100 VG, try bumping up your PG ratio slowly and see if/when you run into a problem. You said you upped it recently - it could just be more PG than you can tolerate and you are experiencing irritation from the higher level. (Where that hair is split between "PG allergy" and "PG sensitivity"... no idea.)

I found out the first time I started vaping I was allergic to PG. Mouth ulcers, severe headaches, stomach aches, throat so sore I couldn't even drink water. So when I decided to try again I ordered 100% VG from Heathers Heavenly, problems solved. There purity line has no PG in the flavoring either. I was actually scared the second time to try again, but I'm glad I did.

For me it was sore throat and sinus, with a slightly bloody discharge from sinuses. This was when I first started vaping almost a year ago now. Stopped vaping, ordered some 100% VG juice, and went back to smoking while I waited for my juice to arrive. Two problems I have found with VG, vaping too much will sometimes give me a heavy, tight chest, as well as a metallic, leathery feeling in my mouth. Cutting back a little, and alternating juice seems to help when this occurs.

BE SURE TO DRINK WATER! Lots of water, I now drink about 64oz per day and my sinuses are better than they have been since I was a kid, a long, long time ago.

I've been going back and forth with PG. I don't think I'm allergic but I do notice side affects from it. I've had a few small sores in my mouth, nothing painful. I've noticed a few small headaches. I thought it jacked my sinuses up but it could have been the sudden change of weather. One thing is for sure, it's really hard on the throat! I have some high pg juices I like and that only come that way so I vape them sparingly and try to vape mostly high vg. I've been playing with different ratios to find the sweet spot but more vg definitely seems better to me. Plus I like the big pillowy clouds more than the so called "throat hit" which just seems like throat irritation to me.
