During my transition from smoking to vaping I was trying to keep extra hydrated to flush out the toxins and always suggest to people to try and get the actual amount of water( and a bit more as you are detoxing) we are all supposed to be getting.

A few days ago I looked down at my hands and it looked like I had spilled flour on them I was so dehydrated and I realized that I had not been going out of my to drink water like I had been the previous couple of months.

New job distractions and a week of 16 degree F weather really did a number on me.

I guess that is possible, but this breakout is mostly around my chin and jawline and the blemishes are so deep that I can feel them for a long time before they even come to the surface. I've noticed that since I quit smoking I could see almost a gray undertone in my skin that has been going away. I never noticed it when I smoked, but I'm assuming that is the toxins from the cigs. Maybe I need to get a facial or a peel and see if this continues after that. Then I would know if it the pg mix or if it is a side effect from quitting.

I'm experiencing the same thing. Deep breakouts around the jaw and chinline - which I've never had before ....

Let's hope it goes away.

I was wondering what kind of effects people have experienced on the skin when quitting smoking and switching to ecigs . I had an initial breakout that went away but its been a few months and I'm having a deeper breakout that is taking forever to go away. Now the weather has been super dry and cold and I've even had some cracks in my skin at the breakout site. I have always taken good care of my skin, but I'm just wondering if this is a process that will eventually end. I feel like the breakout might be toxins still coming through my skin. I smoked for 15 years.

Question. Do these breakouts result in a rash that comes out of the blue? And do they itch and/or become painful as time goes around?

That's what's happening to me now (and the weather is cold and very dry) and never experianced this.

And I stopped smoking 8 months ago. :(

Here and back
Very interesting thread. I was wondering how to start a thread about skin and smoking. You know how many Doc's can tell if you're a smoker by your skin? Well I was wondering if vaping would change that. Any long term vapors that can say if their skin is better??? I've been vaping for a month and no breakouts. I think my skin looks a little better but not sure.

Initially my skin got better. But, now 7 months without a single analog and my face breaks out. Same thing here. Deep ones that take forever to come to the surface and can even be painful. I am sure part of this is detoxing, but I think the larger part is refilling carts and such. We tend to get some of the liquid on our hands and inevitably we wipe our faces at some point afterward. I am going to go out of my way for a while to wash my hands better after a refill session and see if that doesn't help. Not sure what else to do at this point.

Yes they are painful and the cold dry weather is not helping. I have been dealing with this breakout for about a month now. It seems like it is getting better, but it still seems extreme compared to how my skin normally is. I did always notice that I had clogged pores in the area that is broken out now, when I smoked.

Oh yeah and I quit in September

The messed up thing is that if you try to research smoking and skin online all you can find is things encouraging you to quit and how you will look so much younger and your skin will become rosier. I am pretty sure that this from quitting smoking and not from the vaping because I have very sensitive skin and this problem is only in one area. I wash my hands all day long because I am a massage therapist, so before and after every client.

One of us should see a dermatologist and ask them directly what happens when you quit smoking. It is common knowledge that your lungs go through a process of shedding toxins and tar, maybe it is the same for skin.

I did have one bad breakout when I was a teen and I got prescription for retin-a. It worked really well and actually repaired all the damage to my skin and the effects lasted well into my 20's. I have real crappy insurance, but as soon as I can afford it I'm going to try to see a Dr. and get it again. In the meantime if anyone has any suggestions of otc products that would be good. I have been using salicylic acid like someone suggested but with the dry weather it seems too harsh.

I very much doubt that. I know those beasts quite well, as I have to supplement my testosterone production with testo. Those are exactly the ones I get from bad testo levels. I sincerely doubt that nicotine has anything to do with it, or anything in the liquids. Particularly, since people who stop smoking and don't vape get them as well.
My bet is on the 3999.

I recently posted my experience comparing the effects of smoking versus vaping on the circulatory system (and the effects were very dramatic). I concluded that smoking is significantly more detrimental on the circulatory system compared to vaping. Therefore, it should follow that if blood flow is increased in small blood vessels, the skin should benefit. However, I would think (guess) it probably would take many smoke free months to notice a difference.

I haven't had skin problems since I went through the 'change'. I used to break out at a certain time each month before that - obviously, hormonal. And no noticeable change yet due to ecigs in my skin.

However, my hair has changed. It looks overconditioned all the time. And I don't even use conditioner. I have long hair. Anyone else noticed this problem?

I drink A LOT of fluids since I started vaping. I suffer from unbearable thirst most of the time, so it's not even something I need to remember to do.

I've only got about a month without a cigarette, so I'll continue to watch for any other changes.

But I figure if vaping is overconditioning my hair, perhaps soon it will start to overcondition my face and some of my wrinkles might start to disappear??? :D

I agree!
Since I quit analogs my circulatory system has improved.
My left foot is no longer blue, caused from a poor circulatory system.
Quit tabacco since 8-2009
My lung capacity has improved also!
Still being treated for bladder cancer with chemo.
Sloan has no idea about vaping.

I hope you get better soon!:)

The breakouts can sometimes look like boils under the skin and the immediate surrounding areas can get reddened- i wouldn't call it a rash. I'd say uncomfortable but not painful. it's inflammation and it will surface as a zit or it'll just disappear after a few days. That was my experience in winter. It doesn't seem to happen in summer which in my parts it is.
Sometimes if ones facial area looks like a rash you will see it's blood vessels (capillaries) on the skin surface when you look close. I get that.

The dark circles from under my eyes are decreased in under a week - a WEEK - and I havent even fully quit smoking yet. Also my skin is more pink and less grey (grey tinged skin is common for smokers - its a giveaway sign to any beautician or skin care doc)
I agree about the circulation - mine is also improved - in a week - and Im still smoking anas about 2- 10 daily (some days are good, some the whole 10 lol)

OK, i am a 48 yr. old guy and I am breaking out like a high school kid on prom night. 8-o:D It is mostly my back but ocassional one on face and chest gets a few. I quit analogs Oct. 29, 2009. I did get an occasional one or two on my back here and there before quitting.

For me, laying out in the sun and getting a tan would make my skin clear up. I an quiet pale right now, but tan really well to a deep dark tan easily within days. I just don't take the time to lay out in the sun like I used to at a younger age.

I am quiet sloppy with refilling eliquids and just wipe hands on pants, napkin. I don't think touching the area is causing the zits for me as I can't reach many areas on my back. I guess it is a detox thing or pg, vg. I use both pg and vg, so I guess I need to try to go with one or the other for a while to try and figure out which one is causing it.

I smoked for 30 years at 2 packs a day. So detox is quiet possible cause for me. I even got a dang zit on my earlobe couple days ago. Mine are the deep kind you can feel before they come to surface.

Anyway, gonna hang in there with vapin and no going back to analogs for me.

I have had to cut back on the amount of conditioner I use so you aren't the only one. Also, my hair has grown 6" since August. My daughter is jealous!

As for the face breaking out. Mine was until I started using witch hazel as a cleaner and toner. You can get it at Walmart or any drug store near the peroxide and alcohol. It works great for cleaning your skin and also helps to temporarily shrink pores. I keep a bottle near me and just use it whenever I feel that I need to. Since I started doing that my face is clear.

kklogan, I'm a massage therapist too!
Have you been using any different essential oils? A lot of LMT's that I know were having a similar reaction (not allergy as much as a cystic acne sort of thing) and went to the dermatologist who told them that all those essential oils can build up over time and cause that to happen. So they went without using them for 1 month, and their skin was back to normal.

Probably unrelated, but I just had to get that out there.

I found that when I first started vaping my skin went through a really bad detox period where my face was breaking out all the time, but now, it is looking a lot better. I would say for about 2 months now it is looking great. If you can tell in my picture my skin looks really, really pink (instead of gray/washed out) and I think that's because my circulation has increased dramatically. People keep telling me I look like I "just took a nap" so I guess that's a compliment? Also, smoking really dries out your skin in a bad way, so maybe now it is more oily.

Been vaping since right before Christmas. Great product we have here. I have been suffering from a "rash" or something like it for about one and a half weeks. From what i can see it is from the VG liquid. Along with the "rash" i have suffered from an upset stomach as well. While i was waiting on my shippment of VG to come from Cignot (great store BTW) i bought a bottle from a local shop. Quite a bit more expensive. It doesnt say on the bottle what it is. Just says High Nicotine. I'm going to put in an order for some PG and Ecopure and see if my situation changes at all.

I'll update and follow the thread.

FYI i use a Joye 510 and a USB pass as well.

Reading this thread and the more I'm thinking about it I just had to chime in again. I say hormonal changes and detoxing cigg garbage! The first 2 months I had weird breakouts, not too bad (but there) on my face...most notably weird was on my scalp. I could just sit here and feel little painful bumps on my head through my hair that I would pick at and say "hmmm, weird". Also my skin was a bit dehydrated from the PG. Month 3all died down and my face and head are bump free at almost 4 months! I smoked almost 2 packs a day for 23 years...you KNOW that gunk permeated our very being and our bodies are thanking us!

I had never heard that about essential oils. I scent all the cream I use with essential oils. Do you mean that by touching it with your hands all the time it builds up in your system? I make a point never to touch face while I'm working. LOL in my picture I practically look like a grey ghost, but it's the lighting. I am naturally a very pale person but my lips are much pinker than they used to be.
