I picked up a couple of Chinese made lanyards from heavens gifts . com and they stink to high heaven. I'm no expert but it must be something to do with the way they tan the leather over there.

Does anyone know the best way to remove at least most of the smell from these? I cannot go around with this stank on me. I know if I can smell it, others can smell it more than me probably. Will some kind of leather cleaning product work? If so, what would be the best type/brand?

I washed mine out with warm water, patted it with a towel, let it air dry, then after a day or so I went at it with some saddle soap. Thing is soft as cloth now. If you drop a few drops of aroma therapy oil on the cloth with the saddle soap it can smell like anything you like. Don't over do it with the oil though, stuff is strong.

I made my own out of 1" tubular webbing, some parachute cord and a little ingenuity.

Just so happens the inside of the webbing will fit an ego battery perfectly.

You can find this webbing in various colors including black cheaply at most outdoor/climbing shops and substitute almost any string/cord for the parachute cord (550 cord).

Just measure the webbing to the proper length, cut, use a lighter to melt the edges together, and punch a couple of holes for the lanyard. Cost, less than 20 cents.
