Before I took the plunge 6 weeks ago, I researched all over this forum for at least a week trying to make a decision on which PV to buy. After looking at many reviews and comments, I opted for the Joye Ego.

During that time and even during the last 6 weeks, I never saw one mention of battery buttons going bad and burning up the battery. Strange, but now in the last 2 days I've seen it mentioned several times.

Is this really a wide spread or common problem with the Ego? Have a lot of you experienced it? Has the manufacturer fixed the problem?

I haven't had any problems with mine so far. Just curious cause I have been recommending the Ego to friends and relatives.

I think those post may be pertaining to accidentally having the button pushed. e.g. in ones pants pocket etc...

I have three ego batts. One is authentic "Janty" and the other two are knockoffs (from Tasty Vapor). I've never had any issues (so far) with the button going bad on any. Granted I've only had them for about two months so time will tell (I guess).

The ego (or Riva) is a very good choice for a PV. Highly recommended.

I just got a ego a few weeks ago, both batteries worked ok at first. Then one would not fully charge, left on the charger for over 4 hours and it seemed to only get a 2hr charge. Got a replacement, but was not the same color as my kit was. It was almost like the ego was made with two batteries in it and only one was working.

I had trouble with one of mine. I work from home and rarely go anywhere, and they stand on end on either the coffee table or my desk, so it was not a case of the button getting pushed. I had it for about a month, was a genuine Joye battery. It was used in rotation with the other one in the set for the first two weeks, then I added a couple RiVa batteries into the rotation in addition to a passthrough. All told, it couldn't have had more than 15 charges on it. It was working fine right up until the point it didn't. It died a natural battery drain, put it on the charger and walked away. Hours later the lights were green, I tried it and got nothing. Cleaned the threads and put it back on the charger, it blinked, lights went red and then immediately to green. I tried it with both the USB and the wall charger, and in a fit of desperation also tried it with the RiVa charger, and nothing. I don't really know whether the other battery will do it, too, because I just set the blue eGo to the side now.

26 days rotating 2 Riva batteries. Very good performance and then the dreaded..... plug into charger....green light...won't accept a charge.
I do not use low resistance atty's....always clean the threads before and after attachment to the charger...cleaned threads on charger.
I was excited to have these last for at least 200-300 charges and it's a bummer to have them sputter out after 20ish charges.
Any chance the chargers are faulty?....AC adapter and USB charger?

(My attempt to get some help from my supplier):
Re: Order No. 1281584015-676
I received the two Riva batteries and just loved the performance until I ran into problems
They both stopped accepting a charge on 9/2/10. Plug into eGo USB charger....battery flashes green...charger flashes green...then goes to solid green....even left in the charger for a few hours the battery is still dead
Used only regular resistance 510 atomizers.....about 50% direct dripping and the rest just using cartridges with polyfill
I started using them about 8/14/10. I rotated the charging and use, so each battery received roughly 10 charges before going dead. I was expecting something on the order of 200 charges
Any ideas here? Bad batch of batteries? Some weird issue with the charger?

(Suppliers reply): There is a strong chance that some liquid got into the battery and shorted it out. The only other thing i can think about is the charger had some sort of malfunction. Sorry for the inconvenience.

(Thoughts): How do I get juice into both batteries through normal vaping and have them die simultaneously? I don't see how fluid can enter the atty end?
Nice offer to make this right from the vendor? Why should I continue to buy $20 batteries if they're only going to last three weeks? Has anyone ever had a problem with a usb eGo charger creating problems like this? How do you get over this kind of frustration and find something that reliably lets you enjoy vaping as it's supposed to be?

Help?.....Paul

Never had a button problem. It seems mostly non-ego people post about it who believe marketing claims.
eGo in 4-17, charge each bat. about 1 x day, clean connection first & remove shortly after charge mostly. No bat. problems. One time the bats. did not go as many hrs., replaced atty- fixed & back to normal!
Hard use- no "baby" it here!

Paul...the fact that both of your batts quit accepting a charge at the same time makes me think it is the charger that went bad. Since you have Riva batteries and an Ego charger, I assume you also have some Ego batts? Do they still work? It is important to clean the connections on the batt and the charger each time you recharge. Also, like you, I don't see how any liquid could get into the batt on a manual batt.

Thanks Bozz.....It makes sense that something is up with the charger. No way I was getting fluid into these manual batteries...and I alway clean threads on every charge...every removal and re-attachment of atty's.

The original two eGo batteries I had went bad (wouldn't take a charge) after one week...at the same time too...I sent them back to the vendor. They were not genuine eGos.

Then I thought I'd try the Rivas....made it about 3 weeks...genuine Rivas. I still have the 2 Rivas....and a new mega eGo from cignot....I'm going to leave these alone until I get another charger to play with.

I'll report back when I have it. I'm hoping that even the apparently dead Rivas may respond to a properly working charger.

With my first Genuine Joy eGo kit I had an issue w/the charger. More specifically with the screw in battery connection on the charging cable. There is very little tolerance between the +/- terminals. About 1mm between the inner cylinder and the outer ring, seperated by a white o-ring. Mine had a small piece of wire (or solder flash) next to the cylinder and when a batt was seated it was enough to make the connection to the outer ring. Bam fried battery. I am not saying this has happened to your batts but check that connection. Mine smelled like a fried PC board when it went!

Just ordered my joye ego kit, I read somewhere that the micro chip that cuts off your pv when you take too many puffs is also the same chip that prevents overloading of charging? So does that mean I can leave my battery charged while I am sleeping? because 3 hours or so for it to charge is kind of inconvenient at times if you have to monitor its charge time

How can that short-circuit fry the battery? Aren't they protected for that?

I leave my Tornado (=eGo) batteries charging overnight and sometimes the whole day. Before charging I leave them about 30 minutes to be sure they are cold before charging. For now I have no problem with them.

Did not short circuit the batt. Killed the circuit, hence smelled like a burnt PC board. Should have said "bam fried circuit" but in any event unit was dead and the short in the connection is what killed it.
