Hey everyone,

obviously, I'm new the forum here and this is also my very first post. I realize this topic/question belongs in the tech issue section but I am unable to post there for apparent reasons.

Now, I am a newbie of about 2 weeks and I am experiencing a lot of drama with my ego (1100mah) battery. There were already problems in the past like not firing at all, but have since been resolved. Just today my battery is acting up again and I couldn't find a solution on the forums or the web. 3 things may happen now any given time I press the fire button, 1 the clearos will make a buzzing sound (not the normal crack & pop). It sounds sort of like an electric razor, street light, or an electrical plant (Bzzzzzzz) but at a very faint volume and produces no vapor. 2 it makes the same buzz sound but fires a couple seconds late. And finally 3 it fires perfectly normal and creates a satisfying vape. I have tried multiple clearos with the same results.

I am not sure what's wrong with my battery, is it dead and not charging when I plug it in?

It would be awesome if you guys could help me out :). I bought the Ego 1100 mah battery from fasttech.com.

Update: Now a couple hours later, the clearos are not even making a noise, no vapor is being produced, and will not properly charge...

Welcome , but sounds like your Ego or clone , as the case may be , is toast . Contact fasttech customer service . If this has happened within the warranty period , and it sounds like it did . They will probably replace it . Hopefully you have more than one device to use , in the meantime . Good Luck .

If you are sure the noise is coming from the battery - and not from any carto or device you put on it - something is very wrong. An eGo style battery should not have any noises emanating from it under any circumstances. Cartos are known to make cracking and popping noises but in a battery that's a very not good thing.

Based on your description I would not consider that battery safe to use.

Does it do this when nothing is attached to it? If No, the problem is more likely what you put on it..

More info needed!

The sound comes from any clearo I use, not the battery. I would feel unsafe if it came from the battery! :)

Ok, let's try to sort this out...

I am not sure what's wrong with my battery, is it dead and not charging when I plug it in?

What does all that mean?

Is it or is it not charging when you attach it to the charger?

Does the battery switch LED blink at all when you connect it to the charger and plug it in?

I don't know if this is even a possibility, but if this is your only battery I might recommend seeing if you can find a vape store near you. You will spend more money doing this but you can get a brand name battery that you can be pretty sure is going to work right, that you can use while you work on getting the other one sorted out, replaced, whatever and you'll end up with two, which is usually a good idea anyway. Just a suggestion!
BTW, welcome to ECF!
(Now I'll let those who are good at tinkering take over. :) )

Just up until about a half hour ago the battery does not charge anymore and the LED on the charger stays green without blinking, but the blue light on the battery turns on. Also the battery completely stopped firing around the same time.

You make a valid point! If all else fails that's probably what I will do!

Renzuli,

Sadly, as I'm new this is my only device :(....

Yes I'm positive it's a clone, not the actual Joytech one. And I'm afraid that since it partially works, sending it all the way to china just to be rejected is frustrating....

Actually, all the fasttech returns go to a warehouse in Miami. As soon as the warehouse reports the return has arrived, fasttech will send another from China. I think that they reimburse your shipping too but I'm not sure.

Open up a ticket on their site and go from there. In the mean time, find a local shop and get a decent battery. It will cost more but if it fails you won't have to wait for shipping. My experience with fasttech batteries is 0 for 2. Both batteries I bought from them failed in the first few weeks.

Ok.

IF you connect the battery to the charger dongle, the status LED on the charger stays on green, AND the switch button comes on and it stays solid blue:

There is the possibility that the battery is actually fully charged - it's just not making electrical contact (or intermittent contact based on your descriptions) with the clearos. This can be caused by "overzealous screwing" - tightening stuff onto batteries more than necessary. The center connector post in the battery can get pushed down with each over screwing. Eventually it's pushed down far enough that you run into problems.

To see if that is the problem you need something like the smallest jewelers screwdriver you can find. A dull pin or needle will work. You may get lucky and have a a pair of fine tweezers that can grip the post. Look straight into the battery connector - the center post is surrounding by a rubber O ring. Insert your tool - just a bit - between the center post and the O ring and try to pull the center post up. Work around the post and do this in a couple few places. Try the battery again. You may need to try more than once and less is more when approaching this fix.

0 for 2 huh? Ouch.... I've read story's of people who get horrible Doa/crappy battery's every time and I've read story's of people who are completely satisfied and get great battery's every time. I guess it's just a persons luck :/.

I think I'm going to pick up an ego-c twist at my local shop for the $30 instead of the $12 on FT, unless that is the FT ego c twist is a name brand one.

Yeah that happened to me in the past and I fixed it, since then I've made sure I don't over tighten. But just incase I happened to do it again, I tried your suggestion and it wasn't the problem. I also noticed that battery is loose and rattling around in the housing. I decided it is a better idea to return it to FT and get a free replacement then try to tinker with it, resolder the loose whatever it is, void my warranty, and still maybe not have work right. Thanks for the help Rick.

Yeah - loose & rattling not good. Anything could be disconnected inside that sucker now and have broke the electrical connection to the 510 connector. In the greater scheme of vaping - messing with a flaky battery is just not worth it. Said it more than once - never cheap out on batteries or chargers. That's where most of your safety lies.

Sorry you are having issues, while some others help with them, just to let you know that with fasttech you create a ticket on their website to make any kind of return. They will usually ask for a picture of the device and be able to let you know immediately if it's in warranty or not. They have on of the best warranties I have seen for e-cig purchases.

If you have to send it back, it will be an address in Miami (usually) and they will ship you a replacement straight away. They will also give you your shipping costs back (usually as store credit).

Does your atomizer/clearo work on another battery? Could be a short?

I thought it was a short at first because it was semi working so I cleaned out the 510 and still no difference. so Then I thought it might be a dead battery and it was not charging correctly, which I don't think it was... That charger since I got it seemed flakey... But over the next couple hours since posting this thread it stopped firing completely and I noticed the loose battery.

I think the charger was not working properly because when I would plug it in, half of the time the USB charger would stay lit green, the ego battery stayed blue (which it should not even be on if the USB shows charged/green), and to put the icing on the cake the adapter USB to outlet would stay red... Go figure....

Thanks alget, I have started a ticket with them! Although waiting near a full day for response is a bit tedious.
